Chapter 168 Moving to Town

"You haven't struck it rich, have you?" Some of the smarter ones noticed that she had taken all the valuables from the house. "Did you buy a house in town?"

Bai Nuo shook her head. "I didn't buy them. I rented a courtyard house in town and moved all my things there. I don't need to spend any more money to buy them!"

"Oh! I see!" Upon entering the courtyard, which was rented, the person who had inquired felt somewhat relieved. Seeing that this fool was still living a miserable life, no better off than himself, he lost all desire to stay and said, "Then you guys start tidying up, I'm going to get to work!"

Bai Nuo nodded and said politely, "Uncle, please take care."

When Bai Nuo finished packing everything, Granny Liu finally pushed the old woman out of the house. She asked somewhat uneasily, "Where are we going?"

Bai Nuo said calmly, "Let's go to town. I have a house there. You can come with me, and I won't have to run back and forth."

When she lived in town, she didn't have to get up so early. But living here, she had to get up half an hour earlier than in town. Bai Nuo felt very uncomfortable. She was worried about staying in town instead of with Aunt Liu.

"Bai Dalin has money now, and I guess he'll buy a house in town soon. He won't be living here anymore!" Bai Nuo seemed to sense what the old woman was thinking and added.

The old woman was a little embarrassed.

Aunt Liu interjected at the opportune moment, "Young lady, can I see my daughter Daya anytime now?" She knew that Daya worked in the young lady's shop.

Bai Nuo nodded.

"Girl, we can go now!" After Long Yi and Long Er met up, they packed their things together. The three of them were much faster than the two of them.

“Let’s go!” Bai Nuo said, and got into the carriage first.

"Grandma, let's go!" Grandma Liu was overjoyed at the thought of seeing her daughter anytime, and at the same time, she was no longer so in favor of the old lady's actions.

Her son has never cared about her, so why would she want him to come? If she doesn't watch over him, will he starve to death?

Aren't you afraid of hurting your granddaughter's feelings?

Aunt Liu no longer cared what the old woman thought. In important matters, she listened to her daughter. Immediately, she helped the old woman onto the carriage, placed the wheelchair on the carriage shaft, and the several carriages and the horse-drawn carriage headed towards the town in a grand procession.

"We're here, Grandma!" When Long Yi's voice rang out from outside the car, Bai Nuo said to the old woman, "Auntie, please bring Grandma in!"

"Yes!" Aunt Liu replied, first going out to put the wheelchair down, then carrying the old woman down. As soon as she got down, Hu Mingmei was already waiting. Upon seeing the old woman, he greeted her respectfully.

The old woman was stunned to see Hu Mingmei there too. "You live here too?"

Hu Mingmei smiled and shook her head. "No, I'm still staying at the Fulai Inn. I just knew you were coming today, so I came here specifically to welcome you!"

The old woman nodded, and her expression softened.

"Grandma, let's come in and take a look!" Hu Mingmei stepped forward, took Liu Da Niang's place, and pushed the old woman inside.

Aunt Liu followed beside him, while Bai Nuo directed Long Yi and the three cleaning women who were already there to move things.

“This place originally belonged to Manager Jiang, but later Nuonuo bought the courtyard. It’s a three-courtyard house, and yours is in the very center!” Hu Mingmei said, pushing the old woman towards the center.

Neither the old woman nor Aunt Liu spoke; they simply watched quietly.

"Grandma, this place is really big. You see, your yard is even bigger than our house." It wasn't until Hu Mingming pushed the old woman into the room and told her to rest that she had to leave that Aunt Liu said this to her.

Walking through this courtyard, I saw six rooms, a small kitchen, and a large hall outside. It looked quite spacious.

The old woman looked around and saw that everything in the room was better than what was in the sugarcane field.

"It's much more convenient in this town than in the village. You can go shopping or listen to operas whenever you want!" Aunt Liu said happily.

"I'm just an old woman now, I don't know what I can do for that girl!" the old woman said wistfully.

"You!" Aunt Liu said with a smile, "As long as you're doing well, that's all that matters. The young lady is most worried about you. Do whatever you want. If you're still feeling bored, we can go to the Treasure Pavilion to collect money for the young lady!" She had seen Daya sitting down to collect money.

"Grandma, Grandma!" Bai Yu's voice rang out from outside as the two were talking. Then, Bai Yu rushed in like a gust of wind and threw himself on the old woman. "I heard from my sister that you came. When did you arrive?"

"Just arrived! Just arrived!" As soon as the old woman saw Bai Yu, her reluctance to leave the countryside vanished instantly. She looked Bai Yu up and down and saw that he was wearing a purple robe, with a thick, off-white silk jacket over it, and a pair of deerskin boots. His hair was tied into two small rounded corners. He was fair-skinned and very handsome.

The old woman looked him up and down, quite satisfied. At least in the few days they'd been apart, Bai Nuo had taken good care of her younger brother. But... "What happened to your face? How did it get so badly injured?"

Bai Yu waved his hand dismissively, "I accidentally bumped into the corner of the table and that's how I ended up like this. But I'm fine now. The doctor said I'll be better soon!"
