Bai Nuo and Jiang San Niang quickly chased after her. Jiang San Niang couldn't run anymore after a while, and Bai Nuo said, "Don't run anymore, wait for me here!" With that, Bai Nuo lifted her skirt and chased after her.
The carriage sped forward like a madman, overturning many things along the way. Everyone hurriedly swerved to avoid it. Some who couldn't get out of the way in time instinctively backed away, stepping on each other's feet. People fell to the ground in the street.
Zhang Wu turned his head and saw Bai Nuo running towards him with all his might. A slight smile appeared on his lips, and the dappled sunlight of spring shone into his eyes, concealing all his emotions.
He glanced at his sleeve, which was still stuck at the front of the carriage. He was forced to keep up with the carriage's pace, staggering, but surprisingly, he wasn't too embarrassed.
Bai Nuo, who was in the distance, gradually fell behind. Zhang Wu saw her stop, clutching her stomach, panting heavily, her eyes fixed on his direction, looking extremely annoyed.
The smile on his lips deepened.
Looking at his robes, Zhang Wu reached out and grabbed the carriage shaft, leaping aboard. A man who appeared to be the coachman was sitting on the shaft; seeing him, he was somewhat surprised, "Young master, you..."
The coachman wanted to say something, but Zhang Wu interrupted him calmly, "This horse injured someone, so we can't keep it!" With a casual flick of his wrist, he pulled a dagger from the coachman's boot, leaped onto the horse, raised the dagger high, and then forcefully stabbed it into the horse's neck.
Horse blood shot into the sky with a "whoosh".
Zhang Wu frowned and leaped away before getting blood on his body.
The coachman shouted, "Young master...this...this is too dangerous..."
Zhang Wu gave him a cold look, and the coachman immediately fell silent. The horse pulling the carriage was slowly losing its life and was stumbling around. Zhang Wu's eyes darkened, and he chased after it, delivering another blow. The horse collapsed to the ground and stopped moving completely.
The carriage crashed to the ground!
Zhang Wu stood there waiting for a while before Bai Nuo arrived. Zhang Wu smiled slightly at her and said, "Manager Bai!"
Seeing that Zhang Wu could still speak, Bai Nuo breathed a sigh of relief and quickly walked over, looking Zhang Wu up and down.
The once neat jade crown had crookedly fallen to one side, but thankfully it was still on Zhang Wu's head. Just a quarter of an hour ago, his clean and expensive clothes were now patchy with black and white marks, a piece was missing from his right sleeve, and there was blood on his chest.
Bai Nuo hadn't noticed the bloodstains on Zhang Wu before, but now that she did, she immediately became anxious again. "Are you injured? Where are you hurt?" It was all because of her; if it weren't for her, Zhang Wu wouldn't have gotten hurt.
Think about it, Zhang Wu and she have only met a handful of times, but he has been injured twice, both times saving her. The first time, Zhang Wu almost died.
"I'm fine, it's not my blood!" Seeing Bai Nuo's anxious expression, Zhang Wu smiled slightly and explained, "After I cut off my own sleeve, I was fine, but this horse was running amok, and I was afraid it might hurt someone else, so I killed the horse. This blood is its!"
When Bai Nuo heard Zhang Wu say this, she turned her head and saw that there was a horse lying not far from Zhang Wu, with blood trickling from its neck.
Relieved, Bai Nuo was also a little angry. "Is there a driver in this carriage?"
Zhang Wu turned his head and saw the carriage overturned on the side. "Oh no, the driver seems to still be underneath!"
"Young master and madam..." Just as the two were about to go look for him, a hoarse voice came from beside them, "I'm fine, no need to look for me!"
The two turned their heads and saw a middle-aged man walking over. As soon as he arrived, he said, "Luckily, young master, otherwise my carriage would have injured countless people!"
Bai Nuo frowned at him, "Whose coachman are you? Don't you check the carriage before you come out? What if more people get hurt?"
"It's my fault. The carriage was fine when it left, but I don't know why it went berserk and injured you, young master. I'm so sorry." The coachman apologized to Bai Nuo obsequiously.
Bai Nuo wanted to ask which family they were from, insisting that they pay Zhang Wu for the medicine, but Zhang Wu raised his hand to stop her. Zhang Wu's voice was gentle as he said, "Manager Bai, I'm fine, you don't need to worry. Alright, you can go now!"
The first sentence was addressed to Bai Nuo, and the second sentence was addressed to the coachman.
The coachman quickly thanked him, glanced at Bai Nuo, but didn't dare to leave. Zhang Wu had already told the coachman to go, so Bai Nuo couldn't go against Zhang Wu. So she nodded and said, "You can go now!"
After the driver left, Bai Nuo said, "Are you really alright? Your arm is all scraped. Let's get a doctor to take a look!"
Zhang Wu raised his right hand, and sure enough, there were abrasions on the outside. He shook his head and said, "It's nothing, I can just put some medicine on it when I get back."
"Thank you so much, you've saved me twice!" Bai Nuo said with a wry smile. "Are we just incompatible? Why do you always see me injured?"
"I'd be willing to get hurt for you!" Zhang Wu said with a smile. Bai Nuo's heart skipped a beat when she heard this, but Zhang Wu's smile was so sincere that she couldn't tell what he meant. Just as she was feeling uneasy, she heard Zhang Wu say again, "We're friends. How can we not lend a hand when a friend is in trouble?"
Hearing Zhang Wu's words, Bai Nuo immediately breathed a sigh of relief. "Yes, we are friends. If you ever need any help in the future, be sure to tell me, and I will do my best to help you!"
