Chapter 194 The Liar

The night was deep and the dew was heavy. In the entire courtyard, only the servants here and the servants she brought were carrying lanterns.

Hu Mingmei's courtyard was very large, and these few lanterns could not illuminate very far. They could only emit a faint light nearby, and Bai Nuo's face was hidden in this faint light. Only her eyes were exceptionally bright, which gave her a sinister feeling in this cold night.

Huang Ziyao was so frightened that she took two steps back.

Seeing that she was frightened, Bai Nuo gave a sinister smile and asked calmly, "Are you moving or not?"

"I'll move!" Huang Ziyao said weakly. She suddenly realized that she didn't dare to offend Bai Nuo anymore. It wasn't that she was afraid that Bai Nuo would really sell her, but that she was afraid that she would never see her parents again.

"Xia Donglai will take some people to help Miss Huang pack her things first thing tomorrow morning." Bai Nuo gently touched Huang Ziyao's face. Huang Ziyao looked at her in fright. Bai Nuo smiled and said to Huang Ziyao, "That courtyard is still yours tonight. Go back and get a good night's sleep."

Huang Ziyao was still staring blankly at her. Bai Nuo smiled and said softly, "Alright, it's late. Go back to sleep early. Good night."

Without waiting for Huang Ziyao's reply, he glanced at Granny Wang, who immediately understood and led Huang Ziyao out, half-inviting and half-leading her.

As soon as Bai Nuo returned to her room, she saw that Hu Mingmei was already awake. Bai Nuo was a little annoyed. She had been quick enough, so why did she still wake him up?

Hu Mingmei was watching her with her arm behind her head. Bai Nuo washed her hands before going over and lying down. Hu Mingmei asked her, "Why are you so happy?"

Bai Nuo laughed and said, "You heard everything? It's funny because you were teasing a little kid."

Hu Mingmei suddenly said, "You're a child too." Huang Ziyao is a year older than Bai Nuo. If Huang Ziyao is a child, then Bai Nuo is too.

Bai Nuo was stunned. She thought to herself that she was older than Hu Mingmei in both her past and present lives. But when she looked at Hu Mingmei, she saw an unyielding affection in his eyes. Bai Nuo's heart fluttered and she softened beyond belief. She moved closer to him and let him hold her. She heard Hu Mingmei say, "It's late, go to sleep."

The next day, when Bai Nuo was woken up by Mudan, Hu Mingmei was no longer in bed. When she touched the bed, it was still warm, so he must have just gotten up.

"Where did Second Master go?" Bai Nuo got out of bed. Peony brought in the water to wash her face. Bai Nuo washed her face and sat on the dressing table, letting Peony and Peony do her makeup and hair.

"Second Master is in the main hall. Madam Zheng's family has arrived," Mudan said. With just that one sentence, Bai Nuo understood that Madam Zheng's family had come to cause trouble.

But did they come so quickly? There were no outsiders present yesterday. Or is it that Madam Zheng's family members came to question her because of the commotion at the shop yesterday?

Seeing Bai Nuo's brows furrow, Mudan said, "Yesterday, Zheng Qing'er was in Madam Zheng's courtyard. When things got busy, we couldn't take care of her. Who knew that she would run back in the morning amidst the chaos, which led to Master Zheng's arrival."

It was her.

Bai Nuo had only been married into the family a short time and knew nothing, so Mudan gave her a little lesson: "In our Great Zhou Dynasty, there are two families that are the most powerful. One is our Hu family, and the other is Madam Zheng's Zheng family. The Zheng family has been developing very well in the past two years and is showing signs of surpassing us."

After Bai Nuo finished dressing, Mudan asked, "Madam, shall we serve the meal now?"

"Has Second Master had breakfast?" Bai Nuo asked.

Peony shook her head. "No, Master Zheng arrived while Second Master was still asleep."

Bai Nuo raised an eyebrow. "So early? I wonder if this Mr. Zheng is here for his sister or for something else?"

"Then let's wait for Second Master to come back before we eat..." Bai Nuo said. "Let's go, let's go to the main hall."

Peony nodded, ordered someone to bring a sedan chair, and then followed Bai Nuo out the door, heading straight for the main hall.

"Hu Mingmei, don't go too far." Bai Nuo had just arrived in the hall when she heard a rough, hoarse voice coming from inside. The voice was so loud that it sounded like they were arguing.

Bai Nuo was a little anxious and quickly walked in. As soon as she entered the hall, she saw Hu Mingmei sitting at the head of the table, and a square-faced, slightly chubby man sitting to her left. Zheng Qing'er was standing next to the man.

Upon seeing Zheng Qing'er, Bai Nuo realized that it was Master Zheng.

Of the three, Zheng Qing'er stood silently to the side, while Master Zheng was red-faced and furious, clearly quite angry. Hu Mingmei, on the other hand, was leisurely sipping a cup of tea, obviously not taking Master Zheng's anger seriously.

Upon seeing Bai Nuo arrive, Hu Mingmei's usually calm expression softened slightly with a smile. "Madam has arrived?"

Master Zheng also looked up at Bai Nuo. He had obviously heard of Bai Nuo before. When he saw her arrive, he snorted heavily.

So Bai Nuo ignored him completely. She walked over to Hu Mingmei, sat down, and took Hu Mingmei's teacup. "Why are you drinking tea so early in the morning without having breakfast? Let's go have breakfast."

"Alright!" Hu Mingmei pulled Bai Nuo downstairs, paused when they reached Master Zheng's side, and said indifferently, "We're going to have breakfast, so we won't entertain Master Zheng and Miss Zheng any longer."

Enraged that Hu Mingmei had openly driven him away, Master Zheng stood up and began to curse. Zheng Qing'er looked at Hu Mingmei with longing, "Cousin..."

Hu Mingmei said calmly, "I'm not your cousin. Didn't your cousin go out?"
