“Lost!” the boy said calmly, his lips pressed into a line in the sunlight. He thought about what had just happened, about how the woman had tricked and groped him and taken his jade pendant. He was not without distress and anger, but he never showed his emotions outwardly, so he said nothing and showed nothing.
This is something you can't tell even your closest and most trusted subordinates.
"Lost?" Blood Man's heart sank, and he exclaimed in shock, "How could it be lost? Where did you lose it? I'll go find it!" Second Master always kept his jade pendant close to his body. If someone else took it... Blood Man didn't even dare to think about the consequences.
"Lu Ying, forget it, it's not a big deal!" the young man said casually.
How could this not be a big deal? Blood-covered Lu Ying opened his mouth to refute, but seeing the Second Master's somewhat frail figure, he held back. "Yes."
"So what should we do next?" Those people will definitely come back for another assassination attempt if one attempt fails. There are only two of them now, and Second Master is not in good health. How are we going to deal with this?
"You go back first, I'll stay here and get the jade pendant back." The boy raised his head, the sunlight was dazzling, and he squinted. There was a bottomless coldness in his eyes. The flush on his skin had faded and he had become pale again—you could almost see the veins under his skin. He was thin but not weak—this was the result of his long-term training. The wind blew up one side of his clothes, making a rustling sound.
The boy seemed even more lonely, like a block of ice that couldn't melt even under the sun.
"No way!" Lu Ying refused decisively, walked up to the boy, stared at him with unusual determination, "Wherever Second Master is, I will be. If Second Master tries to drive me away, I will refuse to leave! Otherwise, I will kneel here to my death!" With that, Lu Ying lifted his clothes and knelt down straight, looking at the boy with stubborn eyes, a hint of resentment in his expression.
Let's see who can outlast whom. Anyway, he won't get up unless Second Master agrees.
"Lu Ying!" The boy looked at Lu Ying kneeling in front of him and after a long while, he finally managed to say, "Where did you learn this habit of crying all the time, kneeling down all the time, and acting like you're going to die every now and then? You're just like a woman."
Lu Ying's face paled even more, almost the same color as his master. He opened his mouth to argue, but the boy had already walked past him and left.
Lu Ying quickly stood up and chased after him to explain, "I'm not a woman, and I don't cry all the time or try to kill myself every few days!"
The boy ignored him and walked straight ahead.

"You're going out to earn money?" The next morning, the old woman approached Bai Dalin. Bai Dalin was having a restorative breakfast with Chen Qiuling when he heard her words. He choked on his porridge and looked at her with a horrified expression. "Mother, are you crazy? What kind of work are you going to do? You said you weren't feeling well the day before yesterday, and yesterday you said your back hurt. Are you deliberately trying to make me a laughingstock?" Damn it, if this old hag went out and people recognized her as his mother, what would they say about her? Had she not thought about that?
He's getting more and more confused as he gets older.
"I won't have any money if I don't go out to work!" The old woman wasn't afraid of Bai Dalin's objections at all. She calmly looked at Bai Dalin, not afraid of embarrassing her son by speaking her mind. "You don't give me money, and you won't let me go out. What am I supposed to eat? What am I supposed to drink?"
Chen Qiuling, listening from the side, almost laughed. "Mom, what you're saying is hilarious. What do you eat? What do you drink? Have we skimped on your food or drink? What will people say about us if you go out like this? Now that your son has money, you don't need to help with household expenses anymore."
Chen Qiuling's words were truly sharp. Since becoming pregnant, Chen Qiuling felt that her position was more secure, so she spoke with more confidence.
"Qiuling is right!" Bai Dalin nodded in agreement. His wife understood him best; his mother was just too much of a headache.
"Then give me the money!" The old woman leaned her cane against the table, sat down, and looked at the couple. "If you don't give me money, what am I supposed to eat and drink? Starve?"
"Mom, what you're saying is hilarious. Did we starve you?" Bai Dalin was amused by his mother's words. Was she doing this on purpose? Did she really have to ask him for money? Did she see that he had money, so she couldn't stand him having a little bit of cash on him?
Who did he offend by having two coins?
He can't have money, right?
"You haven't let me go hungry!" The old woman sighed softly, patted her knee, and looked at the white wall not far away. "I've taken care of my food, but I still need to buy myself a couple of clothes, right? You don't even care about the two children. They still need to eat, drink, and relieve themselves, right? Nono is all grown up now, and it doesn't look good for her to always wear patched clothes. In this sugarcane field, nobody wears patched clothes anymore."
In the end, they were still trying to find a way to ask for money! Bai Dalin felt extremely annoyed; how could he have so many family members?
“Then let Bai Nuo go out and earn money herself!” Bai Dalin said immediately. “She’s grown up now, and she should find a way to support herself.”
The old woman's eyes turned cold. "Bai Nuo is only thirteen years old. You know she's not very bright; there are many things she doesn't understand!"
"Mother!" Bai Dalin didn't care about that, as long as she didn't ask him for money. "So what if she's thirteen? So what if she's not clear-headed? Didn't I still become an apprentice when I was thirteen? If she's not clear-headed, she can still do manual labor. At most, she's destined to be a maid. And what's the point of a maid being so smart?"
The old woman picked up her cane and slammed it heavily on the ground, looking at Bai Dalin. "You said it yourself, you agreed to let Bai Nuo go out to work!"
"I said it!"
After the old woman left, Chen Qiuling said coquettishly with some dissatisfaction, "Husband, if it were any other time, I certainly wouldn't object to you, but now I'm pregnant with our child, and you've sent Bai Nuo out to work. Who will take care of me? Who will cook for me?"
Bai Dalin chuckled and picked up Chen Qiuling, giving her a kiss. "What's the big deal? With her out working, we can save some money. As for the problem of you having no one to take care of you, that's even easier to solve. Just let Chen Zhi take care of you. It's just cooking a meal and washing a couple of clothes. He's idle all day anyway."
It's good to have something to do, so that Chen Zhi won't go out drinking and carousing all day and cost him money. His daughter is about to go out to work, so why should a burden like him be idle?
It's not that it's impossible for Chen Zhi to do the laundry and cook, but Chen Qiuling is reluctant to let him. "It's not that it's impossible for Chen Zhi to do these chores, but you know, he's a grown man, and I'm a woman. It's not good for him to do my laundry."
"That's easy, I'll find you a maid."
