Chapter 5 Some are virtuous, some pretend to be stupid

"What's wrong with your sister? Why is she always lying in bed?" For several days in a row, Bai Nuo lay in bed, half-dead and listless, like a cabbage that had been dried in the sun all day and pickled in salt, utterly lifeless. Having gotten used to sleeping on a Simmons mattress and enjoying air conditioning, she found it very difficult to adjust to this place where she slept on a wooden plank bed and had to manually cool off. Every day, besides trying to eat her fill, she just lay listlessly in bed.

In broad daylight, Bai Nuo lay down as usual. She heard her grandmother and Bai Yu talking outside the door. Her grandmother tried to keep her voice down, but the house was so small that even though they were both standing at the door and speaking in hushed tones, Bai Nuo could still hear them clearly.

"She's probably just tired." Bai Yu didn't know what was wrong with his sister. She was never like this before. He scratched his head, feeling a little annoyed. It must be that bastard Chen Zhi who scared her. That must be it.

"If it weren't for Grandma's infidelity, you wouldn't be working so hard." Grandma looked at Bai Yu with heartache. Before she twisted her ankle, the rest of them could at least have a full meal. Now that she had twisted her ankle, she couldn't go out to help with the work anymore.

Bai Yu pursed his lips, secretly thinking that he must work harder to support his grandmother and sister.

"Grandma, I'm fine." Hearing this, Bai Nuo felt helpless. An old woman and a child were working so hard to survive, and she, a young woman, really felt embarrassed to shamelessly stay in bed.

"Nono..." The old woman cried out with heartfelt joy when she saw Bai Nuo come out, "Please don't scare me!"

"Grandma, it hurts." Bai Nuo was hugged tightly by her grandmother, and the bones in her body were pressing against her so hard that her whole body ached, but she didn't know how to explain to her grandmother that she was really fine.

The original owner of this body was stupid to begin with. Should she say she wasn't tired, or that she wasn't your granddaughter? Bai Nuo thought about it a thousand times and decided to keep this matter to herself.

Live well.

Upon hearing what Bai Nuo said, the old woman immediately let go of Bai Nuo, then looked her up and down to make sure she was alright before she felt at ease.

Having decided to live well, Bai Nuo's spirits lifted, and she radiated vitality. After settling the old woman in, she sent Bai Yu to find something to eat, then cleaned up the house and took her dirty clothes to the river to wash.

There were quite a few women washing clothes by the river at this time. When they saw Bai Nuo, they ignored him. Well, who would want to deal with a fool? Since they ignored him, Bai Nuo ignored them too. He found a spot with a large rock, rolled up his trousers, and squatted down.

To be honest, Bai Nuo was quite satisfied with this body. She was good-looking with fair and tender skin. Although Bai Nuo had always paid great attention to taking care of herself in her previous life, she had always had yellow skin. Her wish to have fair skin was fulfilled in this life.

Without laundry detergent or liquid, Bai Nuo felt that the patched clothes in her hands were as hard as rocks. She scrubbed and scrubbed, but before she could even finish washing one piece of clothing, her back was already aching terribly.

"Hey, silly girl, you're here to wash clothes too?" As she was washing, an older woman approached. Bai Nuo didn't know how to address her, only that she was from this village. Hearing her ask, she lowered her head and answered softly as if shyly, "Yes."

"These belong to your grandma and brother, right?" The auntie found Bai Nuo's timid appearance amusing, so she decided to tease her. She looked at the clothes Bai Nuo had placed on the stone and asked, "Didn't you wash them for your parents?"

"Father and mother?" Bai Nuo was stunned for a moment before realizing that the "mother" the aunt was referring to should be Ms. Chen Qiuling. It was already a good thing that she was helping to wash Grandma and Bai Yu's clothes, let alone expecting her to wash Ms. Chen and Bai Dalin's clothes? That was impossible.

So Bai Nuo blankly replied, "No, Nuonuo can't get into Daddy's house."

"Now you can go help your mother wash clothes," the woman said.

Bai Nuo looked at her blankly.

The aunt pointed to the shore and said with a smirk, "Look, your mother is here."

Bai Nuo looked in the direction she was pointing and, sure enough, saw Ms. Chen carrying a wooden basin, wearing a red jacket, red pants, and a white long-sleeved gauze coat, walking gracefully towards them with small, quick steps, her slender waist swaying like a water snake.

Bai Nuo was stunned.

How does she walk like that? She really wanted to learn too. It's a pity that in her previous life, Bai Nuo spent countless hours and made countless efforts to learn, trying to make her walk more charming or stylish, but all her attempts ended in failure. This girl's hands and feet were extremely stiff, and she walked like she was taking a square step. She didn't know how many times she had been laughed at.

Ms. Chen saw Bai Nuo from afar. Her brows furrowed slightly, but quickly relaxed. What puzzled her was that Bai Nuo used to be as timid as a mouse seeing a cat when she saw her, so why was he staring at her intently today? And there was a... well... indescribable smile on his lips?

Little did Ms. Chen know that the man was attracted to her walking posture and was staring at her intently, intending to imitate her.

Under Bai Nuo's gaze, Ms. Chen finally reached the riverbank. Before even greeting anyone, she put on a warm smile, "Nuo Nuo, Aunt Liu."

Bai Nuo then learned that the woman's surname was Liu.

"Little sister is here to do laundry too?" You could tell from Aunt Liu's tone that she wasn't very happy. Ms. Chen called her "aunt," but Aunt Liu called her "little sister," which meant that the generational difference was halved.
