"Alright, you guys stop following me. You're just idling around anyway. Come on, lend a hand, I'll treat you to a meal!" After working for half a day, Bai Nuo and Bai Yu were soaked in sweat and had only managed to roughly clear away the grass around their heads. They hadn't dug very deep either. At this rate, if Bai Nuo wanted to dig a fishpond, it would take at least a month, and there was no guarantee he would even be able to!
Bai Nuo threw down her hoe. The scorching weather was making her irritable and restless. Just as she was about to take a break, Bai Yu told her that the people who had been following them had come out again.
Bai Nuo looked in the direction Bai Yu pointed and indeed saw a corner of clothing. He simply threw down the hoe, told Bai Yu to go around to the back, and walked straight towards the direction of the person who was following them.
The people who were following Bai Nuo were shocked when they saw him walking towards them. They tried to hide, but when they turned around, they saw Bai Yu standing with his arms crossed, looking at them.
"Alright, we've already spotted you. Come out and help us with some work!" Bai Nuo stood in front of them, looking at them with a half-smile.
"How did you find us?" There were three of them, all big and burly with ordinary looks, the kind of people you wouldn't notice if you threw them into a crowd.
"Because you guys aren't hiding very well!" Bai Nuo said. These people weren't special agents or spies, and they didn't have any special skills in tracking. They might not notice you once, but after two or three times, they would definitely realize that someone was following them.
All three of them looked somewhat annoyed.
"Why should we help you?" one of them asked. They had no connection with this little girl, so why should they help her?
"Weren't you supposed to follow me to find where the bead is?" Bai Nuo looked at the person who spoke with amusement. "Anyway, you're just sitting around doing nothing. If you help me with the work, I'll feed you and you can sleep in my kitchen at night. But if you don't help me, you'll have to endure hunger and wind and rain. Let me tell you, this place is quite far from the town."
"Do you have that bead?" one of them asked, his eyes fixed intently on Bai Nuo, as if trying to find the bead on her. If they found the bead, they could go back and report, and naturally they wouldn't have to endure hunger and hardship anymore.
“Not now!” Bai Nuo said calmly. “But even if I don’t have the bead, you can’t go back so late, otherwise would Miss Zhang be willing to let you go?”
The three men looked at each other, and Bai Yu said to them, "Going back so early now is just asking for death. Staying longer might give you a reputation for doing your best. Whether you listen to us or have your own ideas, it's up to you to decide!"
He exchanged a glance with Bai Nuo, then left without saying another word to them.
"What should we do?" the three people muttered to themselves.
"Let's go with them!" someone suggested. "We're here to find the beads with them; it's better to be in the open than in the dark." Another reason, which he was too embarrassed to say, was that they could eat. They hadn't had a proper meal in two days and were starving!
“Okay, we’ll follow them. We’re looking for the beads.” The three of them made their decision, exchanged glances, and then followed.
When the distraught Bai Dalin returned, this was the scene he witnessed: his daughter was treating three men to a lavish meal, while he, having lost his job—and it was because of her—was enjoying a life of luxury. He was heartbroken, yet she was feasting on him.
That's absolutely outrageous!
This is absolutely infuriating!
Bai Dalin trotted over, exuding a murderous aura. The loud noise of his footsteps startled the group of people who were engrossed in eating and drinking, but they didn't react. They just stared blankly as Bai Dalin approached—they didn't react because they couldn't process what was happening.
"Eat, eat, you bastard!" Bai Dalin walked into the crowd and kicked the bamboo table, knocking it over. Food and bowls fell to the ground with a clatter!
"You bitch, why didn't you say you had the beads sooner? You made me lose my job for nothing! How vicious you are! Aren't you afraid of going to hell someday?"
"Hey bro, who are you? That's going too far! We're still eating!" Bai Dalin wanted to stomp on the food a few more times to vent his anger and calm down, but before he could, his elbow was grabbed.
It was one of those three people. All three of them had told Bai Nuo their names. They were three brothers: Long Yi, Long Er, and Long San. The one who grabbed Bai Dalin was Long Yi.
Among them, Long Yi was the most burly and fattest. He hadn't eaten for two days and was the one who felt the hungriest. They had already eaten, but now someone had kicked them over and was about to stomp on them. Long Yi was definitely not going to stand for it.
Long Yi stood up, and Long Er and Long San followed suit, all standing up and coldly staring at Bai Dalin. "Damn it, is this guy crazy? They're eating, what's with kicking them all down like that? Want to fight?"
"Who are you? I'm telling you, mind your own business!" Bai Dalin was on the verge of exploding. Seeing that he was being held back by a man, he became even angrier. He glared fiercely at Long Yi and tried to shake off his hand. However, Long Yi was big and strong, far stronger than the skinny and weak Bai Dalin. Bai Dalin was only of average build, and compared to Long Yi, he was nothing short of a weakling.
