Chapter 159 Voting (Part 1)

Ah Qing is right, it's not a conclusion until the very last moment.

Mu Gaoyi and Shi Hetong looked surprised.

These people really change their tune faster than the weather.

But it's all good this way. Let's indulge Aqing this once, so that we'll have no regrets and won't let our future down!

——

Fu Changfeng witnessed such a gratifying scene yesterday, but out of consideration for A Qing, he refrained from going up and making a great fuss.

But in that situation and atmosphere, he didn't have a chance to talk to Aqing, but now this is a good opportunity.

She stood alone on a secluded edge, surrounded by strangers, looking rather pitiful...

He slowly moved out of his usual spot, squeezed his way through, and finally stood on the edge.

He ignored the strange looks people were giving him; he just wanted to get close to Aqing, and then...

That was it. Zheng Quchi didn't even notice that the person next to her had changed. She was thinking about something and didn't look out the window.

Cough cough...

Fu Changfeng deliberately cleared his throat, quite intentionally, to get her attention.

Zheng Quchi heard it, but she didn't think much of it. Fearing that the saliva from the other person's cough might splash around her, she quietly moved to the side.

Fu Changfeng was utterly dumbfounded.

He finally gave up hoping that she would notice him and called out directly, "Aqing."

Huh?

Zheng Quchi immediately turned his head and saw Fu Changfeng.

She frowned instinctively.

Why is that annoying guy standing next to her? Has he really fallen so low in the artisan guild?

Seeing that Aqing clearly disliked him, Fu Changfeng felt wronged and angry.

But Zheng Quchi preemptively asked, "Why did you call me? Are you still holding a grudge because of what happened before and planning to cause me trouble?"

She asked directly.

Fu Changfeng was taken aback by her blunt question. He recalled what had happened before, his expression became awkward, and his anger subsided.

"No, I..."

"What?"

She glanced at him warily.

Fu Changfeng had come to express his gratitude, but he couldn't bring himself to say it in front of her. He wanted to explain that he only disliked Shi Hetong and the others, not her, and that he only hoped she wouldn't associate with those two scoundrels anymore, and that he could take her with him...

But the moment he met her clear and insightful eyes, he knew that no matter what he said, she wouldn't believe him.

Indeed, given his arrogant and domineering behavior before, and his harsh words to her, she already had no good feelings towards him... But even so, she still kindly reminded him... It must be said that her character is completely different from those two villains.

"I'm not bad."

He finally managed to utter this sentence.

Zheng Quchi was dumbfounded and asked him strangely, "What did you say?"

Fu Changfeng took a deep breath and said, "Don't listen to what Mu Gaoyi and the others say. They have a grudge against me and are always going against me. They must have said a lot of bad things about me."

Zheng Quchi became more and more confused as he listened: "No, I don't care what kind of person you are. What do you want to say to me? If there's nothing else, just keep quiet. General Yuwen is coming soon."

Fu Changfeng's face turned a deep shade of liver: "I have something to say. I just wanted to tell you that the thing you reminded me about before has actually happened..."

He got stuck again.

Seeing that he was silent, Zheng Quchi finally spoke.

"Oh, that matter...you..." She stared at him suspiciously, "You didn't come here to thank me, did you?"

The main problem is that his current attitude is too strange, completely different from before. He seems hesitant to speak, and looks as anxious as a monkey scratching its head.

"What if I... what if I say yes?" he mustered his courage to ask her.

Zheng Quchi politely declined, saying, "No need. I'm only reminding you because I don't want to see any construction site accidents, not because I want to help you. Since you have a grudge against Mu Gaoyi and Shi Hetong, you shouldn't be able to be friends with me either."

She didn't know what grudges existed between them, but Mu Gaoyi and Shi Hetong had already formed a preconceived notion in her mind. As long as they didn't make any fundamental mistakes, she considered them allies and companions, so Fu Changfeng was naturally not within her scope of acceptance.

After all, the worst thing a small group can do is to be a fence-sitter, trying to be on good terms with both sides, because in the end, they will lose everything.

Fu Changfeng stared at her blankly, and when he realized what she meant, he felt a strong sense of shame and disappointment.

Is she rejecting his offer of reconciliation?

He didn't know how to process these emotions, so he forced a smile and said coldly, "I'm just here to tell you that you were right, but it was just a coincidence. Don't overthink it. Who wants to befriend you? You're just being presumptuous."

The last four words perfectly encapsulate his inner thoughts; while criticizing others, he also felt a vengeful backlash, as if stabbing himself in the chest.

After saying that, he left angrily without waiting for Aqing's reaction or reply.

Zheng Quchi watched his retreating figure, which resembled a hasty escape: "...His temper is still as bad as ever."

Fu Changfeng's matter was something she would forget in an instant; what she needed to focus on next was the important matter.

After about fifteen minutes of waiting at the drill ground, a group of people walked in from the entrance, led by Yuwen Sheng, who was wearing a crisp military robe.

He wore a silver mask and a long cloak, followed by his two protectors, Wang Zebang and Wei Yao, with Fu Rong to his side. Even Runtu came from behind them.

Zheng Quchi was slightly surprised to see Runtu.

He might have followed Yuwen Sheng before, but not very often, and since she didn't know him, she hadn't paid any attention. But now that they were acquaintances, she realized that Runtu must also be one of Yuwen Sheng's close followers.
