They were all on tenterhooks, waiting for the general to arrive at the drill ground.
Zheng Quchi rushed over as soon as he finished his work.
She saw about a hundred craftsmen lined up in four rows in front of the high platform they had built. Whether from nervousness or fear of what was to come, their faces were pale green.
Well, it could also be because I've been eating too many wild vegetables lately.
"Hey, Qing, come here right now."
When Mu Gaoyi and Shi Hetong saw Zheng Quchi arrive, they noticed she was standing there in a daze, looking rather simple-minded, so they quickly called for her to come over.
“Okay.” Zheng Quchi walked towards them subconsciously.
Mu Gaoyi squeezed to the side, trying to make room for him: "Hey, brother, move aside, my little brother wants to come and stand next to us."
The thirty-odd car-making craftsmen were already standing together in a huge, domineering line, pushing others to the side, which was quite unpleasant to others. Now that another person was to squeeze in, some people refused to work there.
"Why should he? He's just a menial soldier, while we're all master craftsmen standing here. Tell him to go stand over there."
Although there is no explicit rule, this small area below the high platform is the best spot for all the craftsmen to compete for recognition when inspected by the leaders. It is also the place where the most prestigious craftsmen among the hundred or so craftsmen are the ones that others do not dare to compete with or back down from.
Although they were terrified of Yuwen Sheng, they couldn't back down from the treatment they deserved. But why should he give up this spot so close to the center?
He, Mu Gaoyi, thought this was just playing house, reserving seats for acquaintances? Bah!
Mu Gaoyi retorted, unconvinced, "I already said we're on the same team, you—"
"Don't be impulsive." Shi Hetong quickly pulled him back, preventing him from arguing with others at this moment.
If the general sees this in a moment, no one will be spared.
As soon as Zheng Quchi arrived, he saw Mu Gaoyi clashing with the craftsman next to him. The two looked at each other like they were cross-eyed, each disliking the other.
Their argument was quite loud, and Zheng Quchi heard it too.
"Never mind, I'm fine standing anywhere."
Zheng Quchi smoothed things over.
She doesn't care about being in the center of attention at all. She believes that people without ability will fall even when they are in the spotlight, while people with ability will eventually shine, even if they are just ordinary people.
This "battlefield" is territory they fought for. There's no reason why she could arrive and claim a place without doing anything.
"I'll stand over there, you guys stand together."
Zheng Quchi greeted Mu Gaoyi and the others, then consciously stood at the very edge, neither trying to take anyone's place nor steal anyone's spotlight.
Seeing Ah Qing standing obediently on the side, he was already "smaller" than the average craftsman, and now he was completely hidden by this group of tall people.
The car-making craftsmen already had a good impression of Aqing. Although the car test yesterday didn't go very well, seeing her pitiful appearance now, being bullied by others, they all glared fiercely at the person who refused to give up his seat.
The man initially didn't think much of it, but one, two... and finally thirty or so menacing stares made him feel like he was being pricked by thorns. He couldn't stand them any longer, so he switched places with someone else and quickly hid to the side.
The others didn't realize that in just a few days, they had built a car together. How did this group of people become so cohesive?
Is it wrong for someone to stand up for another person who didn't stand with them?
Weren't they still arguing amongst themselves yesterday? With that embarrassing piece of junk car, they're not still fighting... right?
That's right, these people were not wrong; they really haven't given up.
Yesterday, they listened to Ah Qing's advice, went back and washed away all the grime and stress that had accumulated over the past few days, and then slept soundly for a whole day without a care in the world.
When they woke up at dawn, they felt as if they had come back to life. The fatigue in their bodies, the tension and anxiety in their hearts, and all sorts of other miscellaneous situations were washed away as their bodies relaxed.
They recalled what Aqing had said, scrutinizing every word, including her expression and tone. Their mindset had changed drastically.
She asked them if they lacked confidence in what they were doing from the beginning.
Yes.
When they first joined, they were just trying it out, having exhausted all their options.
But that wasn't the case later.
Otherwise, they wouldn't be so proud, so proud that they want the whole world to come and see what kind of amazing thing they have created.
Why did they regain their confidence later?
They thought and thought hard, and finally understood.
Based on their years of experience as craftsmen, they knew that although it seemed so unattainable, it was so realistically sculpted that they were capable of making it.
Their doubts were all appeased, and their worries were all crushed.
It was Aqing's complete and perfect design drawings that gave them this confidence.
"Mu Gaoyi, Shi Hetong, we'll go crazy with you this once."
"Me too! Even if the things we've worked so hard to make are ruined, I'll still make sure they're shown in their entirety!"
So today, they have come together again, instead of reverting to their previous solitary ways.
They want to compete for that glory as a team.
Yesterday they were disappointed and angry, but now they all seem to have changed their tune. They have all become more enlightened, no longer afraid of losing face, no longer feeling sorry for themselves, and no longer blaming or complaining about others!
