Chapter 171 Sneaky

Zheng Quchi glared, "This is too much! How can you curse yourself like that?"

She saw his beloved bird—no, the bird that was even more affectionate towards him—but he ruthlessly chased it away, leaving her behind, the one who intended to infuriate him.

Well, he can be quite ruthless to himself sometimes.

He wouldn't forgive himself, nor would he forgive her.

Seeing that he couldn't leave, Zheng Quchi immediately straightened his attitude: "I originally came to bring you medicine, but it seems you're not that serious... Hey? What's wrong?"

She had only spoken halfway when she saw Yuwen Sheng brace himself against the windowsill, his neck drooping, looking as if he was about to collapse and was in great pain.

He remained like that for a moment before whispering, "It's nothing, I just suddenly felt a little dizzy..."

"Why am I suddenly dizzy?" Zheng Quchi asked, puzzled.

Seeing that she seemed somewhat skeptical, Yuwen Sheng coolly lifted his thin, soft eyelids, his pale lips curving slightly as he said self-deprecatingly, "Would I lie to you?"

That makes sense, why would he lie to her?

It seems there's no benefit to it.

Zheng Quchi couldn't figure out why he did this on purpose, so he smiled apologetically and helped him sit down on the edge of the bed.

"You seem a little hot?" She was startled and subconsciously reached out to touch his forehead, finding his temperature was off. "Haven't your fever gone down these past few days?"

Yuwen Sheng's forehead was pressed against her palm, and the temperature, neither too hot nor too cold, made him feel very comfortable.

He narrowed his eyes like a soundly sleeping black cat, his gentle gaze carrying a soft light that easily put people at ease.

What is meant by reducing fever?

"So, your fever hasn't gotten any better?" Alarm bells rang in her mind, and she withdrew her hand as soon as he got close.

Yuwen Sheng raised his eyes: "I don't know, maybe it's improved, maybe it hasn't."

Upon hearing this, Zheng Quchi was truly impressed. Was he always this willful whenever he felt unwell?

"I have some medicine here. I'll brew it for you to drink first. If you don't get better by evening, I'll mix the powder with water and use it to wipe your body."

He asked slowly, "You have medicine? Where did you get it?"

Zheng Quchi hesitated and stammered when he was asked the question.

"Since you prepared the medicine for me a long time ago, why did you wait until now to take it out?" he continued aggressively.

Zheng Quchi said, "Listen to my excuse: I...I thought you were almost fully recovered, so I only took the medicine as a precaution."

Yuwen Sheng chuckled, a laugh tinged with disappointment and loss. He asked, "Zheng Quchi, do you still consider me your husband?"

Zheng Quchi was now in a real bind. She thought to herself, whether she acknowledged it or not, they were already husband and wife in name only, and this couldn't be faked.

Some say that sick women are sentimental, but she thinks that sick men are just as sentimental.

“If I didn’t admit it, I wouldn’t have thought of getting the medicine for you.”

"But you took the medicine, yet you didn't give it to me."

"I... I'll give it to you right now, won't I?"

"So, I'm asking you, why are you only giving it to me now?"

Zheng Quchi was utterly speechless.

She thought to herself, since whatever she said would be wrong anyway, she might as well shut up, so as to save him from having to force himself to argue with her while he had a fever.

"Let's not discuss these things now. I'll go to the inn's kitchen to boil some water for you to make some herbal tea. You wait for me in your room."

After saying that, she stood up.

"I'm not thirsty."

His words stopped her in her tracks. She turned around and said patiently, "This is medicine, not water. You have to drink it even if you're not thirsty."

But Yuwen Sheng became stubborn. He smiled in a hypocritically gentle and considerate way and said, "Anyway, you haven't died after not taking medicine for so many days, so there's no need to trouble you too much."

The last time Zheng Quchi was this speechless was the last time.

"...I admit that I've been so worried about the Jichun Craftsmen's Association these past few days that I've neglected your health and haven't been caring enough for you. Now that you're sick, I will take on the responsibility of a wife and take good care of you, okay?" she asked with an extremely hypocritical and gentle smile.

Yuwen Sheng's smile deepened, and he covered his mouth with a soft murmur, nodding and saying, "Alright, since Madam is so kind, then I'll trouble you."

"No trouble at all, no trouble at all."

She put on a kind and gentle smile, but as soon as she stepped out the door, the smile crumbled heavily.

What exactly happened to Yuwen Sheng?

She felt that his every move and word was too suspicious, unlike his usual self, but with her limited intelligence, she couldn't figure out what he was trying to do.

Arriving at the inn's kitchen, she made up an excuse and borrowed a stove and a pot from the kitchen staff to boil water and brew some herbs.

Given Yuwen Sheng's special and noble status, it's best that these foods not be handled by outsiders, lest they be taken advantage of by assassins or spies.

The herbal medicine the army doctor gave her was roasted; it only needed to be steeped in boiling water for a few minutes to release a strong herbal aroma and turn the water a dark brown color.

After brewing it, Zheng Quchi suddenly remembered that he seemed to have forgotten to ask the military doctor how to take it.

If I were to drink it like tea, could I drink it three times a day or whenever I wanted? Would drinking too much of it have any negative effects?

She thought, why not drink a small amount first and see the reaction?

When he brought the herbal tea upstairs, he ran into Fu Rong on the way. Since there was no one around, he nodded to her in greeting and said, "Madam, if you have time tonight, I will replace your disguise skin with a new one that you can wear for a long time."

Zheng Quchi thought for a moment and said, "Okay, I'll come over to your place tonight."
