Chapter 171 Sneaky

After the two finished discussing business, Fu Rong looked at what she was holding and asked, "Madam, what is this?"

You can smell a bitter Chinese medicine aroma from afar.

Zheng Quchi said, "Your general is unwell, so I got him some medicinal tea. I've brewed it and brought it to him now. Come to think of it, didn't you notice anything wrong with him along the way?"

Fu Rong was taken aback: "No..."

Seeing that he seemed genuinely unaware, Zheng Quchi assumed that Yuwen Sheng was just putting on a good act and hadn't let anyone notice his condition.

"Never mind, I'll go up first."

After everyone left, Fu Rong happened to run into Wang Zebang. Although the two usually didn't get along, he was feeling uneasy at the moment, so he stopped him and asked, "Zebang, is our general feeling unwell? He seemed perfectly normal to me the whole way here."

Wang Zebang stopped, frowned, and asked, "Who told you that?"

Fu Rong immediately said, "Madam, she also got some medicinal tea for the general."

Upon hearing this, Wang Zebang roughly understood what was going on: "...I understand. The general is fine. Even if something were wrong, he would only be feeling uneasy. Now that his wife is taking care of him personally, he should feel much better."

After listening, Fu Rong seemed to understand but not quite, and said, "Is that so? Then the general is quite pretentious... no, quite dependent on his wife."

When Wang Zebang heard him say such things this time, he did not show any particular discomfort on his face.

Fu Rong thought he would fly into a rage: "What's wrong with you? Why are you so calm?"

His startled and jumpy manner was something Wang Zebang couldn't understand.

What's wrong with me?

Fu Rong clicked his tongue in amazement: "What's wrong? If it were any other day, you would have rushed over to take over as soon as you heard the general's wife giving the general some medicinal tea. You don't trust your wife to take care of the general, do you? But now, you have no reaction to this and are indifferent? Wang Zebang, you've changed."

Wang Zebang ignored him and calmly said, "The General and his wife are husband and wife. We are their subordinates. We should remember our place and not meddle in things that are not our business."

"You've finally figured it out, huh?" Fu Rong blinked.

Wang Zebang glanced at him sideways: "And what about you? Your attitude seems different from before. Have you figured it out too?"

Fu Rongcai didn't accept his teasing. He said mysteriously, "Because I discovered something..."

This kind of sentence punctuation is usually used to prompt others to ask questions.

"What is it?" Wang Zebang asked as expected.

Fu Rong raised an eyebrow: "That is... I can't tell you right now, let's talk about it later. I'll go to the dock first to see if our 'goods' have arrived yet."

Wang Zebang rolled his eyes at him, but before he left, he still reminded him, "Be careful on the road."

"I understand. My greatest skill is being careful and cautious."

——

The third floor of Jinxing Inn is generally not for sale to the public, as it is a floor that the innkeeper has specially reserved for the owner.

In a room facing the main street, a person stood by the window, taking in everything that had just happened.

His expression shifted from initial disdain and surprise to eventual delight. After a series of emotional changes, he could no longer contain his excitement and decided to go down and befriend the craftsman from Ye.

But unexpectedly, a terrifyingly skilled man suddenly appeared out of nowhere and destroyed their carved doorpost.

He was so angry that he slammed his hand on the table—then clutched his hand and jumped up and down in pain.

Damn it, this damn table is so hard! It hurts so much!

The shopkeeper rushed over, but seeing his boss with his hands behind his back, his face flushed with anger, he quickly bowed and said, "Boss, that man doesn't seem simple. He broke the doorpost with a single palm strike, which shows his amazing martial arts skills. We can't make a move just yet."

"Have you found out its origins?" the owner asked coldly.

The shopkeeper wiped the sweat from his hurried run and shook his head: "We can't find anything out. They're all tight-lipped. We can't get any valuable information out of them. All we know is that they're from Ye Kingdom, but judging from their demeanor, they're either officials or members of a martial arts sect. They don't seem like ordinary people."

The master was impatient to listen to that man's story. If he couldn't find out, he would continue investigating. He asked, "Was that Ye Kingdom craftsman also here to participate in the Jichun Craftsmen's Guild?"

"That should be right, he carried all the woodworking tools with him."

"Do you think there's a chance he could be shortlisted?"

"Well... that's a bit hard to say. Everyone who participates in the Jichun Craftsmen's Guild is no ordinary craftsman. Their skills are all amazing. So, based on his carving skills alone, it's difficult for me to judge."

The owner waved his hand: "If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Anyway, I don't expect our shabby inn to have a finalist for the Jichun Craftsmen's Guild staying here. But, what do you think if we asked her to help us redesign the inn's facade and make it stand out? Wouldn't that bring in a flood of customers?"

"That's possible. This craftsman from Ye is not only exceptionally skilled, but also quite innovative."

“I think so too. His carving skills are both creative and innovative, and he is indeed a little bit better than me. I really want to meet him in person.”

The shopkeeper asked, "Do you need someone to make the arrangements?"

The landlord, however, raised his head arrogantly: "No need, I will go see her myself."

——

Zheng Quchi brought over the herbal tea, but when she returned, she found Yuwen Sheng asleep. She placed the herbal tea on the table and wanted to leave, but she was afraid that he was pretending to be asleep and would give her another sarcastic remark later.
