Chapter 80 Test of Humanity

How did I... get rescued?

They stared blankly at Zheng Quchi again.

Who is she? Was this whole operation just a coincidence or does she really have some kind of skill?!

If it were truly a coincidence, why don't they really believe it? After all, what she did just now was quite purposeful, without the slightest hesitation or retreat.

If they really had the ability, wouldn't they have to slap themselves in the face to apologize for all the doubts and criticisms they had just expressed?

Master Li walked over from behind. His azure eyes glanced at her and saw that in just a short time, she had made herself so disheveled in order to save a stranger. He was about to speak, but the next moment he was stunned by her outburst.

But then her eyes erupted with a raging fire, and she roared—

"Who the hell told you not to wear safety harnesses?! Did you guys ignore me?! Is it because I can't control you anymore? Fine, from today onwards, I'm not going to care anymore, okay? Anyway, it's your life, not mine. Why should I be more worried than a bunch of suicidal bastards like you?!"

Her chest heaved violently, her arms trembled uncontrollably, and her wide eyes were moist with a layer of red from anger and anxiety, making her look like an enraged little leopard.

For a moment, everyone's eardrums were ringing from her shout, but at this moment, it seemed that their long-standing arrogance had been extinguished, and they all lowered their heads, with no one daring to refute her words.

Yes, seeing her covered in sweat, her clothes disheveled, and her panting heavily was enough to prove that she had really risked her life to save people.

It seems that in the past, every time a fortification was built, some people died. Over time, they even came to think that death was actually a very normal thing.

Not long ago, during a safety training session, she said something like, "What's the use of making a fortune if you risk your life without paying attention to safety?"

They found it amusing, and even scoffed at it.

These officials, who only know how to order craftsmen to work themselves to the bone to meet deadlines, would care whether one or two craftsmen might die during the process.

All she does is put on a show of feigned sincerity to win people's hearts. Knowing she doesn't have the support of the masses, she deliberately does these attention-grabbing things to gain prestige.

But now, no one thinks that way anymore.

Some people can talk a good game, but when it comes to actually doing something, they just shrink back.

But to everyone's surprise, when something really happened, she took it all seriously, even more so than the others.

The image of her single-handedly pushing the crane with all her might, veins bulging on her forehead, is still quite awe-inspiring.

And then there was her use of the crane to rescue a craftsman who had fallen; her composure in the face of danger, and her selfless act of rushing to the front when others would only panic and give up...

Now that she has given them a good scolding, they feel nothing but guilt and shame.

"I'm sorry, we'll be more careful in the future."

"Yes, yes, I will never do it again."

The craftsman, who had just fallen, couldn't believe he had survived. He finally stopped crying and remembered that he had been caught in mid-air by a crane, and it was thanks to that cushioning that he had survived.

He looked at Zheng Quchi next to the crane, and despite the pain, crawled over and kowtowed heavily to her.

"Thank you, Engineer Sang, thank you! Waaah..."

Zheng Quchi hadn't looked closely at this person before, but upon closer inspection, he seemed somewhat familiar.

She remembered that he was the one who had recently joined forces with several other tough craftsmen to openly and secretly try to trip her up and make things difficult for her.

Little did she know that when he talked about her in private, he always spoke of her with disdain and contempt, calling her "that dark-skinned boy" with utter contempt and disdain, but now he was willingly and tearfully calling her "Sang Gong".

Zheng Quchi was initially very angry, so angry that her heart ached. But when the other person admitted their mistake, apologized, and thanked her, she couldn't stay angry anymore.

She looked at the burly men who had bowed their heads, yet she still had to crane her neck to speak to them. They used to be tall and strong, but now they were like grandsons, letting her scold them.

She said, “I can’t save you every time, but I will do my best to create a safe environment to minimize the chances of accidents happening to you. Most importantly… you must take care of yourselves right now. You all have families, right? The old and the young rely on working outside to earn money to bring them home. What will they do if something happens to you?”

"I'm sorry, we were blinded by greed and used such a thing to spite others."

"We will definitely follow your instructions. If you tell us to wear safety ropes, we will. If you tell us to do safety training, we will listen to you."

"Yeah, yeah."

Seeing them all so eager to make their promises, so sincere, Zheng Quchi frowned, but the raging anger that had just surged within him had subsided considerably.

"Alright, this is the last time this will happen. Remember that. It's snowing tonight and another accident has occurred. Construction is temporarily suspended. We'll see how the weather is tomorrow. Take the injured to the doctor in the shantytown."

Seeing that she had finally calmed down and was no longer lecturing them in the freezing cold, and was even chasing them away, these burly men were overjoyed and left quickly.

"Okay, okay."

After this incident, Zheng Quchi became more concerned about safety.

She had ladders, hanging frames, and portal-style scaffolding built; in short, she couldn't simply rely on cumbersome manual labor, so she used tools whenever possible.
