Chapter 80 Test of Humanity

Before the official commencement of construction, Zheng Quchi had the foreman organize a safety training and guidance session for the craftsmen.

Anyone who has worked on construction sites knows that various construction safety accidents occur frequently during actual engineering construction. This not only results in property damage but also personal injury, and in severe cases, it can be a devastating blow to a family.

She knew that in feudal society, there was no respect for human rights and equality, and in the eyes of those slave owners, a human life was probably only worth the value of a piece of property.

However, she held a different view; she valued and cherished human life, and therefore placed great importance on the safety of her projects.

Unfortunately, very few people came, or perhaps they came but their minds weren't there; they just talked on and on about her without taking it seriously.

She was well aware that she did not have enough authority at the moment, so she could only reiterate and urge the craftsmen again and again that they must wear safety ropes whenever they were working on steep and slippery terrain or at heights.

However, even the most robust security system cannot guarantee that accidents will not happen 100% of the time.

In particular, these craftsmen were used to blind confidence in their own hands and feet, and because they found it troublesome, they did not use the method of tying the descent safety rope that she had taught them. So when the light snow fell for a while, the ground became slippery, and they lost their balance and fell.

The craftsman who accidentally fell instinctively reached out to grab anything he could pull or climb along the way during his fall—perhaps a stone or a branch—but that only provided a brief moment of cushioning.

Even with his weight, they couldn't withstand the pulling and tearing, and continued to slide uncontrollably.

What's most worrying is that at the end of this long slope, it's as if it's been cut by a knife, forming a vertical cross-section, with the highest point at least twenty meters above the ground.

If a person were to fall straight down from there, they would either die or be seriously injured.

No, perhaps we can be even bolder in our assertion: certain death.

Seeing the person who had slipped and fallen struggling to save themselves, Zheng Quchi grabbed a root about the thickness of a finger and desperately tried to stop the person from sliding down.

Her heart was pounding and her blood was boiling, but her mind remained extremely calm.

Without the slightest pause or hesitation, all movements were as if driven by instinct. In a few strides, he rushed to the crane parked to the side. His light-colored pupils, like mechanical eyes, collected the image, extracted information, and rapidly calculated distance, angle, and time...

An object slides down at high speed, where V is the velocity, v+at is the initial velocity, and acceleration is...

At the same time, her body did not stop. With her arms sinking and her lower body stabilizing, she used all her strength to push the heavy crane up.

Some people heard the noise, turned around abruptly, and were stunned the next second.

There were six wheels, each about half a person tall, under the crane. They were originally firmly planted on the ground, but now they were wobbling and being pushed forward with difficulty.

She...she managed to move a crane that required six people to pull it?!

Holy crap, that's incredible strength!

No, what is she doing? Why is she pushing the crane at a time like this?

Some people think fast enough.

Does she really think she can catch someone falling from above with just a crane?

This is simply impossible. Firstly, although the trajectory of a person rolling down from a height appears to be vertical, if they deviate even slightly from the angle midway, their landing position will be skewed by an unknown amount.

Furthermore, the boom of this crane is narrow and thin, and it is not equipped with a safety net or a hanging plate. This is similar to the probability of threading a needle through a hole. It is very difficult to align it correctly and thread it smoothly on the first try. You have to practice the angle and eventually do a good job slowly.

In such an urgent situation, what makes her think she can do it?

Zheng Quchi paid no heed to the doubts and gloating of others.

Having reached the approximate location she had calculated, Zheng Quchi jumped onto the control panel without even catching her breath.

She moved the boom in different directions and adjusted its height. These seemingly thoughtless actions were actually the result of careful planning. Then, her eyes remained fixed on the person who had fallen.

He finally couldn't hold on any longer, and with a miserable howl, he fell from the rocky slope to the edge of the cliff. It seemed that he would fall hard to the ground from the height and be smashed into a pulp like a tomato.

"Oh my god, I fell!"

"Falling from such a height, he won't survive, he won't survive!"

They all watched with bated breath, some of them seemingly anticipating the gruesome death of the next person, quickly covering their eyes and shaking their heads in sighs.

Like a wheel, round and round, the man fell from the steep slope to the very end—

Immediately afterwards, the person was thrown into the air, like a parabola, screaming "Ahhh!" as they reached the highest point. Zheng Quchi was already prepared at that moment.

She pinpointed his position and, without a second's delay, precisely positioned the crane boom beneath him. He crashed into the boom with a "thud," having absorbed most of the force of the impact.

Humans have a survival instinct. Just as he was about to slip and fall, he mustered his last bit of strength and frantically clung to the crane arm with his hands and feet.

His mind went blank, and he couldn't even begin to think about why a "lifeline" had appeared beside him at this moment.

Zheng Quchi then manipulated the crane arm to slowly lower the person down.

The man survived the ordeal and lay on the ground, sobbing with lingering fear. Zheng Quchi was also covered in sweat, his eyes glazed with exhaustion.

He swallowed hard.

The others stared in disbelief at the rescued man, who was crying uncontrollably... He was incredibly lucky to be alive.
