Chapter 29: Call Xiao Zhan Uncle, Take Off Jiang Wei's Socks

Arriving at a farmhouse courtyard, Xiao Zhan put her down in the yard. "Stand still and don't move. I'll go light a lamp."

Jiang Wei gave a soft "Mmm" and stood still.

It was such a dark night, and there were thugs outside.

She wouldn't dare to wander off; at least here it would be safer than outside.

Xiao Zhan walked over carrying a lantern, the light illuminating his face.

Jiang Wei was surprised. How could it be him? How could he be here?

Having been carried the whole way, Jiang Wei felt a little embarrassed, stammering, "Little...little...little..." unable to bring herself to call him 'Little General'.

She remembered that her maternal grandfather called him Xiao Langjun, and Jiang Wei curtsied to Xiao Zhan, saying, "Thank you, General Xiao, for saving my life."

Xiao Zhan's hopeful gaze dimmed at her calling him General Xiao.

He thought she had remembered him and was going to call him "little brother"!

“I’m so sorry for rudeness just now. You fell from the tree, and I didn’t know where you were injured, so it wasn’t convenient for me to check you. It was also difficult to walk in the forest at night…” Xiao Zhan explained.

Xiao Zhan took a step back, holding the lamp. "Can you walk? Do you need me to help you?"

Jiang Wei then realized that her ankle was a little sore.

Perhaps because I was too tense just now, I didn't feel the pain. Now that I've relaxed, the injuries on my body are a little painful.

Jiang Wei shook her head despite the pain, "Thank you for your concern, General Xiao, I'm fine."

Xiao Zhan nodded. "Go inside! Rest for a while, and I'll take you home when it's light."

Jiang Wei nodded.

The dew is still on the tree. I wonder how she is now. Jiang Wei bit her lip anxiously, "Did General Xiao come alone?"

Xiao Zhan looked at her, waiting for her to speak.

Jiang Wei fidgeted with her cuffs. "Could you ask Xiao Zhan's men to rescue my two maids?" She was afraid that a general wouldn't agree to help her rescue her maids.

Jiang Wei briefly recounted what had happened, looking at him with pleading eyes.

"My men are near where I found you. They'll be fine, don't worry."

Xiao Zhan frowned as he looked at her hands, which were covered in wounds. "Can you walk? Let's go inside and get some medicine."

Jiang Wei nodded, "I can walk, thank you General Xiao."

Xiao Zhan held up a lamp for her as Jiang Wei limped inside.

"Take it." Xiao Zhan handed her the lamp.

Jiang Wei didn't understand, but still took the lamp.

Xiao Zhan picked her up in his arms, saying, "It will be dawn by the time you go inside."

Jiang Wei remained stiff and motionless in Xiao Zhan's arms, trying to keep her distance from his chest.

Xiao Zhan teased her, "Weren't you pretty good at fighting just now?"

Jiang Wei blushed as red as a boiled shrimp, too embarrassed to speak.

Even though she had been reborn, Jiang Wei was still very shy. In her previous life, before they had even drunk the nuptial wine on their wedding night, Song Tingxuan had gone out to meet Jiang Rou under the pretext of having official business.

She then made excuses to avoid sleeping with him, but in reality, she remained a virgin until her death.

No one knew that later they actually wanted to use her childlessness as a reason to marry her half-sister as a concubine.

Only when her half-sister's son was made the legitimate heir did she realize that she had been deceived by them from the very beginning.

How could she possibly agree?

Seeing that she was not satisfied, Song Tingxuan and his men locked her up, claiming she was seriously ill, and prevented anyone from seeing her.

Xiao Zhan placed Jiang Wei beside the low couch and let her sit down.

He fetched water himself and used it to clean Jiang Wei's wounds on her hands.

Jiang Wei took the handkerchief. "I...I can do it myself. Thank you, General Xiao."

Even though the two weren't that familiar with each other, Xiao Zhan did it so skillfully.

You would never think of him as a playboy; you would only see him as an upright gentleman who treats people with warmth.

Jiang Wei was puzzled. They had only eaten two meals together, so why was he being so formal?

He's definitely a man from outside the family.

Seeing that Jiang Wei was nervous, Xiao Zhan tried to ease the awkward atmosphere in the room by saying, "Your maternal grandfather and I have been friends for many years. We have known each other for over ten years. We met in Mo City, so you don't need to be afraid."

As he spoke, he stared intently at Jiang Wei, as if afraid to miss the expression on her face.

Unfortunately, he was disappointed.

Xiao Zhan took out a small porcelain bottle from his pocket and handed it to Jiang Wei, saying, "This is medicine for wounds. Use it first."

"Thank you, Uncle," Jiang Wei replied, reaching out to take the porcelain bottle.

Xiao Zhan's hand holding the porcelain bottle tightened involuntarily as he pulled it back, his pupils widening in confusion as he looked at Jiang Wei. "What did you call me?"

He couldn't believe it; had he said all that just for her calling him "Uncle"?

Myocardial infarction.

Jiang Wei was puzzled but answered truthfully, "General Xiao just said that he and my maternal grandfather were old friends for many years, so he is my elder. I think you are still young and it would be inappropriate to call you old, so I called you Uncle. Does General Xiao not like that?"

Xiao Zhan: '…………' You understand it very well. Don't try to understand it next time.

"Don't call me that next time." Xiao Zhan handed her the porcelain bottle.

Perhaps Jiang Wei knew that Xiao Zhan really wouldn't hurt her, so she felt relieved. "Uncle, were you transferred back to the capital this time? Did Aunt come back with you?"

Xiao Zhan: '? ? ? 'Didn't I tell her not to call out? Why is she still calling out?'

"From now on, you're not allowed to call me that anymore, understand? And who will tell you I'm married now?"

Seeing that he was genuinely unhappy, Jiang Wei nodded and said, "If Uncle doesn't like it, then I won't call you that anymore."

Xiao Zhan: "………………"

After sprinkling the wound medicine on the wounds on his hands, Jiang Wei returned the porcelain bottle to Xiao Zhan, saying, "Thank you, General Xiao."

Xiao Zhan took it and put it in his arms. "Take off your shoes and socks and take a look at your injured foot."
