Chapter 33: Skills Emerge

Chapter 33: Skills Emerge

Jiang Ning also squeezed through the crowd and saw the scene inside.

Sister-in-law Li was anxious to hug her daughter.

"Don't touch her!" Jiang Ning shouted.

Sister-in-law Li stood there, stunned.

Jiang Ning walked over and squatted down, then gently pressed her hand on the little girl's body. The little girl immediately cried out, "It hurts!"

Feeling distressed, Sister Li immediately reached out to hug her daughter, but Jiang Ning quickly said, "Sister Li, don't touch her, her arm is probably dislocated."

Sister-in-law Li looked anxious. "Then, I'll take her to the clinic right away."

After examining the girl, Jiang Ning found that she had only dislocated one arm, with minor abrasions elsewhere. The dislocation would heal once it was restored.

She said, "Sister Li, help her up, but be careful not to touch her right arm."

Li's sister-in-law was completely panicked at this point, but Jiang Ning's composure made her subconsciously listen to her.

The little girl was still sobbing when Jiang Ning took a piece of candy out of her pocket. "Look, what's this?"

The little girl was in a lot of pain, but her eyes lit up when she saw the candy, and she even forgot to cry.

"Sister Li, feed her the candy." Jiang Ning handed the candy to Sister Li.

Sister-in-law Li did as she was told, and at least her daughter stopped crying.

The little girl was fed candy, and Jiang Ning asked her with a smile, "Is the candy sweet?"

Jiang Ning smiled gently, captivating the little girl, who nodded subconsciously and said in a crisp voice, "Sweet."

Just as she spoke, a 'click' sound was heard.

The little girl was stunned, and so was Aunt Li, who had been worried about her daughter.

Jiang Ning withdrew her hand and smiled. "Alright, try moving your arm. Does it still hurt?"

Jiang Ning gave the little girl candy to distract her, so that when she put her dislocated arm back in place, the dislocated arm would be fine before she even realized it.

Listening to Jiang Ning's words, Sister Li said to her daughter, "Nannan, move around quickly."

The little girl lifted her arm, which had hurt from the fall, and moved it. When she found that it didn't hurt anymore, her eyes lit up.

She shook her arm and said, "Mom, it really doesn't hurt anymore."

Seeing that her daughter was alright, Sister Li finally breathed a sigh of relief and immediately grabbed Jiang Ning's hand, "Jiang Ning, thank you."

"It was nothing," Jiang Ning waved her hand.

It's just a minor dislocation; it's easy to fix.

Seeing that everything was alright, the surrounding crowd gave Jiang Ning a thumbs up and dispersed.

Once her daughter was alright, Sister Li turned to the woman beside her and asked, "Teacher Feng, what happened?"

Teacher Feng immediately explained, "This child just started the preschool class. She's timid, and we weren't paying attention when she ran out and tripped and fell on the road."

Since the teacher had said that, Sister Li couldn't blame her, so she had no choice but to take the child home and let her go back to school after she calmed down.

On the way home, Sister Li couldn't stop thanking everyone. The adults were fine, but if something had happened to the child who had broken a bone, she wouldn't want to live anymore.

Jiang Ning wants to say that children aren't actually that fragile.

But I also envy how much Sister Li cherishes her daughter.

I'm home.

Jiang Ning put the ingredients she bought in the kitchen and poured herself a glass of water when Sister Li came into the yard carrying a basket of vegetables.

Put the cup down and walk out.

Jiang Ning stared in disbelief at the sheer number of dishes.

"Sister-in-law Li, this is too much!"

"It's not much, it's not much," said Sister Li. "This little bit of food is nothing. You healed my daughter's arm, so I should thank you and treat you to a meal. When you go to the army to deliver food to my husband later, tell him that I'll come and call you when the time is set."

After speaking rapidly, Sister Li put down her vegetable basket and left, not even giving Jiang Ning a chance to refuse.

Jiang Ning had no choice but to take the basket of vegetables to the kitchen.

She looked at the vegetables; there were potatoes and lettuce at the bottom, and Chinese cabbage on top, perfect for pickling.

Jiang Ning washed the cabbage with clean water, then put it in a large winnowing basket and placed it in the sun to dry.

The first step of drying cabbage alone takes several days.

After drying the cabbages, she got a little bored, so she swung on the swing and played with the fish. When it was almost time, she went into the kitchen.

Take out the lean pork belly I bought, cut the meat into square pieces, put it in a pot of cold water to blanch, and add scallions, ginger and cooking wine to remove the fishy smell.

After blanching, remove the blanched blanchers and rinse them thoroughly with boiling water. Then, stir-fry them to remove excess oil, which will prevent them from becoming greasy.

After taking the meat out of the water, Jiang Ning caramelized some rock sugar, then put the meat back in and stir-fried it to coat it with the caramel. She then added scallions, ginger, garlic, star anise, cinnamon, bay leaves, and other ingredients, and finally poured in soy sauce to enhance the color.

Finally, pour in boiling water and simmer over low heat.

The water in the pot bubbled and sizzled, releasing a rich aroma of meat that filled the entire courtyard.

Huo Zhiqi, carrying his schoolbag, smelled the aroma of meat as soon as he entered the yard. His stomach, which wasn't hungry at first, started rumbling, and he unconsciously swallowed repeatedly. He dropped his schoolbag and quickly ran over to take over the task of starting the fire.

Normally, Uncle Wang's family only eats meat once every two or three days, and that's only when Uncle Wang is home.

He was genuinely surprised that Sister Jiang cooked meat every day.

When the braised pork was almost done, Jiang Ning added the potatoes.

Fifteen minutes later, the braised pork with potatoes was ready.

After washing the pot, Jiang Ning made hot and sour cabbage with the remaining bag of cabbage, this time adding a little more chili.

It's both sour and spicy, which makes it incredibly satisfying to eat.

Jiang Ning cooks according to the time. Shen Mo should have returned by the time she stir-fries the cabbage, but there is no sound from the door.

Zhiqi diligently brought the food to the table, and then sat down with Jiang Ning at the table to wait for Uncle Shen to come home for dinner.

He was practically drooling but hadn't touched his chopsticks.

A meal tastes best when the whole family is together.

After waiting a while longer, footsteps came from the doorway.

Jiang Ning and Huo Zhiqi's faces lit up with joy, and then they heard Li's voice from the doorway, "Jiang, my sister."

Sister-in-law Li appeared at the front door, and Jiang Ning called her in.

Sister-in-law Li was carrying two bags, one containing large white radishes and the other containing a lunchbox.

She put the bag of radishes down. "Jiang Meizi, I put the radishes in here for you earlier, so I'm putting them here now."

Jiang Ning noticed that she was holding a lunchbox.

"Wait a minute, sister-in-law."

Sister-in-law Li stopped. "What's wrong?"

Jiang Ning said, "Shen Mo hasn't come home yet. Let me go with you to deliver the food."

"That's great," Sister Li said with a smile. "Then hurry up and get ready, let's go to the army together."

Jiang Ning returned to the house, found an aluminum lunchbox, filled it with rice, filled most of the remaining space with braised pork, and then added some hot and sour cabbage.

After finishing, Jiang Ning patted Zhiqi's head and said, "Zhiqi, you stay home obediently. I'm going to deliver lunch to your Uncle Chen. If I'm not back by the afternoon, you can go to class by yourself."

Huo Zhiqi nodded obediently.
