Chapter 45 Zhiqi Calls Mom
Teacher Feng followed the sound and looked over. When she saw Jiang Ning, a look of surprise flashed in her eyes. Then, as if remembering something, she asked in confusion, "Are you Huo Zhiqi's parent?"
“My family adopted Zhiqi,” Jiang Ning explained, then countered, “As a teacher, don’t you care about the children’s family circumstances?”
Teacher Feng on the podium seemed to be choked by something and couldn't speak for a long time.
Jiang Ning spoke up again: "I remember that teachers are supposed to visit students' homes. May I ask, Teacher Feng, how long has it been since you last visited a student's home?"
Teacher Feng's brows furrowed for a moment, but quickly relaxed, a professional smile on her face. "Of course I have visited. I even visited Luo's home a couple of days ago."
Jiang Ning glanced at it and saw that it was the home of the group of top students from earlier.
Jiang Ning crossed her arms and leaned back. "Really? The teacher only visits the homes of top students? The struggling students aren't Teacher Feng's students? Shouldn't teachers treat all their students equally?"
She knows that teachers should be respected, but she also has to consider whether the teacher is worthy of respect.
Jiang Ning's words immediately made Teacher Feng's expression turn ugly.
What does this parent mean? Their teachers are all highly educated, and they naturally prefer students who do well in their studies, so they specifically visit the homes of students who excel academically.
This was an unspoken understanding among the teachers, and no parent had ever objected, yet this parent said it out loud in public.
Ms. Feng tried her best to maintain the image of a good teacher. "Of course, I treat everyone equally. I'm planning to visit the homes of students who aren't doing well in their studies after the parent-teacher meeting to talk to them and give them some advice."
Upon hearing this, some students in the class applauded and praised, "Good, Teacher Feng is really dedicated."
Being praised made Teacher Feng feel much better, and she brought up the topic of Huo Zhiqi again.
“Huo Zhiqi’s parents, your child’s grades are very poor. If this continues, there will be no improvement at all. I don’t think he is suitable for studying anymore.”
As he spoke, he observed Jiang Ning's reaction and expression.
Most parents would be so ashamed and angry upon hearing that their child is doing so poorly that they would want to storm out, or they would lower their heads and look like they are being scolded.
Jiang Ning listened to him with her chin slightly raised the whole time.
Teacher Feng continued, "Children who don't do well in school tend to have poor character and morals. Huo Zhiqi's parents, you need to teach your child properly in the future. If he does something wrong, it will be too late for you to regret it."
Upon hearing this, Huo Zhiqi suddenly looked up at his teacher.
He won't do anything wrong. He'll behave well and do his best to help Uncle Chen and Sister Jiang so they won't be so tired.
"Is the teacher a prophet?" Jiang Ning asked.
"Huo Zhiqi's parents, are you joking?"
"Hehe." Jiang Ning chuckled lightly, "Since that's not the case, how do you know my child will do something wrong in the future?"
Teacher Feng was speechless for a long time.
At that moment, the parents who had just been criticized for their children's poor performance glanced at Teacher Feng and, seeing her speechless expression, felt a little relieved.
Then, the parent looked at Jiang Ning with a hint of admiration. Among all the parents in the classroom, only this parent dared to talk back to Teacher Feng like that, even leaving Teacher Feng speechless.
Teacher Feng took a deep breath, feeling somewhat annoyed by Jiang Ning's questioning. "Huo Zhiqi's parent, I was just trying to give you a friendly reminder."
"A well-intentioned reminder? You belittled my child and trampled on a child's self-esteem. Is this a well-intentioned reminder?" Jiang Ning suddenly stood up, walked step by step to the podium, and looked at Teacher Feng. "As a teacher, you should not only care about the children's grades, but also pay more attention to their physical and mental health."
“My child only got the questions wrong, not the person. You don’t need to keep harping on his poor grades.” She reached out and patted Huo Zhiqi’s head. “Children are all flesh and blood of their mothers, treasures in their parents’ hands. If they are exceptionally talented, they should contribute to the country and serve their country. If they are mediocre, they should stay at home and be filial to their parents.”
"No one finds their life's path because of one exam, nor does anyone lose their life because of losing one exam. The exam paper is just a piece of paper; the future is the picture they must draw."
Jiang Ning turned her head and said, "Teacher Feng, it's really not something a teacher should say to negate a child's entire life just because of their grades."
The parents sitting below the podium looked at the girl on the stage.
Every smile, every word, and every action of hers seemed to draw people's attention to her. Her exceptionally beautiful eyes sparkled with a lively light, as if they contained the stars.
Despite being a delicate woman, her words were passionate and inspiring, making people believe her.
Parents who felt somewhat resentful and were planning to go home and discipline their children began to reflect on their actions.
Jiang Ning said, "Parents, everyone's path at birth is destined to be different. You just need to guide them well so that they don't go astray, and they will naturally find their own bright path."
After Jiang Ning finished speaking, she led Zhiqi back to their seats. As they stepped off the stage, applause suddenly erupted in the classroom. Parents who agreed with Jiang Ning's words praised her highly.
"Comrade, you're absolutely right. My child may not be a good student, but she's very talented in textiles. She's so young, yet she can already make clothes with her mother."
“My child is mischievous, but very filial. He often goes to the mountains to hunt birds and brings them home.”
"......"
Jiang Ning wasn't trying to show off; she was very protective of her own, and she couldn't stand Teacher Feng talking about her child like that.
If there weren't so many parents present and the children weren't still in school, she would have definitely brought up the phrase "being a role model for students."
Teacher Feng's lips twitched.
Most of the parents in the class seemed to agree with what Jiang Ning had just said. If he refuted it, not only would his image as a teacher be ruined, but the parents would also cause a scene if they didn't listen to him.
Just thinking about it gives me a headache.
Standing on the podium, Teacher Feng said, "Huo Zhiqi's parents, I was wrong to talk about the child's future. I will definitely pay more attention to the children's physical and mental health in the future and do my best to cultivate the flowers of the motherland into talents to contribute to the country."
His words were so well-spoken that the parents who supported him applauded.
The parent-teacher meeting for their class ended early, and when Ms. Feng packed up her things on the podium and left, she seemed to be fleeing in a panic.
In the past, he would have mentioned that his class was the last to leave school.
After the parent-teacher meeting ended, Jiang Ning took Zhiqi to check on Li's daughter's class. Seeing that Li was still holding the meeting, she glanced at Li through the window and then left.
Jiang Ning held Huo Zhiqi's little hand the whole way.
"Mom, are you really not disappointed in me?" Huo Zhiqi asked, his head down, his schoolbag filled with failing test papers.
He saw that Jiang Ning's brows were so furrowed when she received the test paper.
That's the expression of disappointment.
When he was at Uncle Wang's house before, he did poorly on his first test, and that was the look on Uncle Wang's face.
Jiang Ning turned her head in surprise, "What did you just call me? Say it again."
Huo Zhiqi was stunned for a moment, then lowered his head and stammered, "Mom, Mom."
He knew he could call her "Mom" like that; from the very first day Uncle Shen brought her home, she had told him to call her "Mom."
But he never uttered the words. In his heart, his mother was sacred and noble, and no one was allowed to slander her.
His biological mother was still worried about him when she passed away.
But when Uncle Shen was carried home, he felt the warmth of someone caring for him again. He was subconsciously afraid that this warmth would be taken away, and even felt that, given enough time, this warmth would definitely be taken away.
He might not have survived at that time.
The child's voice was crisp and clear. Having lived two lives, this was the first time Jiang Ning had ever heard someone call her "Mom."
Jiang Ning suddenly squatted down, then cupped the little guy's rosy cheeks, "Mommy's good son, come and give me a kiss, mua!"
Huo Zhiqi had never been kissed by anyone, not even his own mother.
With a soft "pop," Zhiqi's little face turned completely red.
Shen Mo went out with Jiang Ning this morning. Knowing about Zhiqi's parent-teacher meeting, he rushed to the school after class. As soon as he arrived at the school gate, he saw his wife kiss Huo Zhiqi.
He hasn't even been kissed yet, and this kid has already kissed him first.
