Chapter 5 Your leader doesn't want others to know that he is married
Jiang Ning handed him the household registration booklet and confirmed the address and name on it.
Qian Feng compared the information in his mind with the household registration book, and the information matched perfectly.
Having confirmed the identity of the beautiful comrade in front of him, he immediately stood up straight and said in a firm tone, "Hello, sister-in-law, my name is Qian Feng, and I am the deputy regimental commander's orderly."
Jiang Ning asked, puzzled, "Why didn't Shen Mo come?"
Qian Feng scratched his head, grinned, revealing eight teeth, and said, "The deputy regimental commander is currently on a mission and won't be back for a few days. When the leader informed me, I didn't believe that the deputy regimental commander had really gotten married."
Jiang Ning laughed and said, "Perhaps your deputy commander doesn't want anyone to know he's married."
When Qian Feng saw her smile, which was clearly very beautiful, it inexplicably sent a chill down his spine.
He was straightforward and followed Jiang Ning's words, saying, "How could that be? Actually, the deputy regiment commander mentioned three years ago that he was already married, but he has never gone home to visit his family, and you, sister-in-law, have never come to the army to see him either. We all thought the deputy regiment commander was joking with us."
Jiang Ning raised an eyebrow. The other person looked simple and honest, and spoke directly, so she figured he probably wouldn't lie.
Qian Feng looked at Jiang Ning and said, "Sister-in-law, let me take you to the reception room of the military unit first."
Jiang Ning nodded and got into the car with Qian Feng.
Qian Feng sat upright in the driver's seat, his posture tall and straight, his eyes fixed straight ahead, but the presence of the beautiful woman sitting next to him was far too strong.
He could tell that Jiang Ning didn't really want to talk, so he held back and didn't dare to disturb her.
An hour and a half later, the road the jeep was traveling on gradually became less crowded until the gate of the military base came into view.
Regardless of the era, the security measures at the military gates have always been excellent, with guard posts on both sides where soldiers stand guard with upright postures.
The jeep drove past the cordon, and the soldier on guard jogged over, saluted Qian Feng when he saw him.
Qian Feng said to the guard, "This is the deputy regimental commander's wife, our sister-in-law. I have already checked her identity, and there are no problems."
Upon hearing the title "Deputy Commander's Wife," the other person looked at Jiang Ning with surprise and greeted her politely, "Hello, sister-in-law."
"Hello." Jiang Ning felt a little embarrassed by them calling her "sister-in-law" so often; she was just there to get a divorce.
As the car drove into the military base, Qian Feng parked it next to a row of jeeps. Jiang Ning followed him out of the car and walked into the base. The base was full of men, and they rarely had the opportunity to interact with female soldiers, but the atmosphere on the way was somewhat awkward.
After thinking for a moment, Qian Feng started a conversation.
"Sister-in-law, where are you from?"
Jiang Ning said, "Yanghe County, Huaihe Village."
"Oh, you're from the countryside." Qian Feng nodded, sounding knowing, but quickly realized that his words sounded like he was looking down on her for being from the countryside. He immediately broke out in a sweat and tried to cover it up, "Sister-in-law, I didn't mean to look down on you... no, I also came from the countryside to join the army. Oh dear, I'm not good with words, please don't mind!"
Jiang Ning was amused by his reaction. "I don't mind."
Along the way, she didn't ask any questions or make a fuss. When they arrived at the military base, she didn't look around curiously. She simply followed him without any hesitation.
She didn't look like a girl from the countryside at all. When Qian Feng first met her, he thought she was the daughter of some rich family.
Jiang Ning actually had many questions she wanted to know, but in this sacred and solemn place, she chose to remain silent. The more she said, the more mistakes she might make. What if she subconsciously asked something she shouldn't have, and was mistaken for a spy?
Realizing he had just said the wrong thing, Qian Feng didn't dare to utter a sound and silently led Jiang Ning towards the military base.
"Halt!"
A resolute and solemn voice came from behind. Jiang Ning subconsciously looked up and saw a group of soldiers running and training in front of them.
They saw Qian Feng stop and salute, and Qian Feng returned the salute.
During training, no one was allowed to joke or play around, and no one asked who the pretty comrade next to Qian Feng was.
But Jiang Ning could feel that the eyes of the entire group were on her.
Ugh, it's making her social anxiety almost flare up.
Soon the training group of soldiers left, and Qian Feng also took Jiang Ning to the reception room and had her sit in a chair at the table.
Qian Feng poured Jiang Ning a glass of water. "Sister-in-law, you should rest for a bit. I'll go ask the leaders about your accommodation. The regimental commander didn't apply for a family housing because he doesn't have any family members living with him in the capital. He's always been living in the male soldiers' dormitory in the army."
"Thank you for your help." Jiang Ning took the water glass.
Qian Feng smiled and said, "It's no trouble at all."
After he left, Jiang Ning looked up and surveyed the reception room. On the opposite table was a tea mug with the words "Be vigilant and protect our country" printed on it.
Jiang Ning took a sip of water and heard the door being pushed open. She turned her head and saw a little boy wearing a red scarf walk in.
He was not very old, looking about six or seven years old, and was rather thin.
He paused for a moment when he saw Jiang Ning, then stepped back to the door and looked up to make sure he hadn't gone to the wrong place before walking in.
He walked to the only table in the room, sat down opposite Jiang Ning, took out his homework from his somewhat tattered backpack, and silently began to do his homework.
Jiang Ning observed his little actions and couldn't help but chuckle. How could someone so young act so mature?
When the little guy heard Jiang Ning's voice, he looked up at her, then quickly lowered his head again to continue doing his homework.
Jiang Ning looked out the window. The midday sun shone through the branches, adding a touch of warmth to the slightly cool day.
'Gurgle~'
Hearing the slight noise, Jiang Ning turned her head.
A moment later, she heard a rumbling sound from her stomach again. She was sure it wasn't her own stomach rumbling, but the little one sitting opposite her.
Hearing his stomach growl made Jiang Ning's stomach start to protest as well.
She rummaged through her bag and pulled out two meat buns that she hadn't finished that morning. She took a bite of one of the buns, which smelled delicious. Noticing the gaze, she looked up and saw her little one immediately lower his head.
"oops!"
Jiang Ning pretended not to notice the meat bun had fallen on the table, but quickly scooped it up.
Jiang Ning held the meat bun and said, "It's a bit dirty, let's just throw it away."
"That seems a bit wasteful." Jiang Ning handed the meat bun to the little one. "Do you want some?"
The little guy glanced at the meat bun in her hand, swallowed hard, but didn't touch it.
"You're not going to eat it? If you don't eat it, I'll throw it away."
As Jiang Ning was about to throw it into the trash can, the meat bun in her hand was taken away. The little guy, as if he was starving, swallowed the meat bun whole.
Footsteps sounded outside the door, and Qian Feng pushed the door open and entered.
"Sister-in-law, the leader said that the deputy regimental commander couldn't approve your family compound accommodation because he didn't submit an application. Can I arrange for you to stay at the army's guesthouse for now? Once the deputy regimental commander returns and applies for the family compound, you can live with him."
"Okay." Jiang Ning nodded in agreement.
She doesn't have enough money to stay outside right now, so she figured she might as well take advantage of the free accommodation.
Qian Feng pushed the door open completely before he saw the child slumped over the table. "Zhiqi, why are you doing your homework here again? Why didn't you go home for dinner after class?"
Huo Zhiqi lowered his head and said, "That's not my home."
Qian Feng could tell at a glance that he was in a bad mood, so he came over and patted his head. "Did you have another fight with those two troublemakers from the chief's family?"
"Don't touch my head, I won't grow taller." Huo Zhiqi turned his head away to stop him from touching it. "We didn't have a fight, I just wanted to find a quiet place to do my homework."
