Chapter 171 Forgetfulness

Chapter 171 Forgetfulness

Wen Qingrang's tearful face was reflected clearly and brightly in Jiang Ranxing's eyes.

Jiang Ranxing smiled and winked.

Wen Qingrang turned on the bedside lamp, illuminating everything around him.

He said, "I'll go get you some water, wait for me."

Jiang Ranxing gently moved his head and released Wen Qingrang's hand.

She watched as Wen Qingrang walked to the coffee table and poured her a glass of warm water. When he came back, he also raised the head of her bed so that it would be more convenient for her to lie down or sit and rest.

Wen Qingrang handed her the water glass and said, "Drink slowly, don't rush. You've been lying down for so long and you can't get used to drinking too much water yet. Take your time."

Jiang Ranxing took the cup and sipped it tentatively.

After the warm water moistened my throat, it finally felt less dry and painful, and my body felt as if it had been revitalized.

Jiang Ranxing only took a few sips, and Wen Qingrang took the cup from her hand and placed it on the table next to her.

Jiang Ranxing composed himself and asked, "Qingrang, how long have I been lying here? Why does my body feel so stiff? Ouch—"

She moved slightly, aggravating her wounds, and the pain caused her to cry out in surprise.

Wen Qingrang immediately stood up and pressed the call button by the bed to summon the doctor and nurses.

The on-duty doctor arrived quickly, gave Jiang Ranxing a brief medical examination, and put down the instruments after checking his wounds.

Wen Qingrang immediately asked anxiously, "Doctor, how is he?"

He was very worried about Jiang Ranxing's health, fearing he might hear some bad news.

The doctor smiled and nodded, saying, "There's nothing wrong. She's just woken up and isn't quite used to it yet. Her physical condition is fine. Mr. Wen, don't be too nervous. Just let her recover and have her check-ups as usual."

Hearing these reassuring words, Wen Qingrang finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Indeed, Jiang Ranxing gets easily nervous at the slightest sign of trouble.

He was probably so scared of losing Jiang Ranxing that he was so terrified.

Fortunately, she has woken up and is alright.

Wen Qingrang saw the doctor to the door. When he came back, he saw Jiang Ranxing still staring at him with bright eyes, and he blushed slightly.

"What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that? Don't you want to rest a little longer?" Wen Qingrang asked.

Jiang Ranxing shook his head: "No, I've slept for a long time and I really can't fall back asleep."

Jiang Ranxing thought for a moment and said, "You must be tired, Qingrang. Go and rest. I'll just sit here for a while."

“I’ve already rested, and I’m not tired,” Wen Qingrang said, glancing at the moonlight outside the window. “Let me take you for a walk. The night view here is beautiful; you might like it.”

Jiang Ranxing nodded, then watched as Wen Qingrang prepared a wheelchair and a thin blanket for her, standing by the bedside waiting for her.

Jiang Ranxing originally wanted to move herself, but then she heard Wen Qingrang politely ask her, "Can I carry you down now?"

Jiang Ranxing was stunned for a moment, then nodded. Wen Qingrang then reached out and lifted her off the bed. She immediately fell into a warm and firm embrace. When she got close, she could almost smell a faint fragrance, a scent of musk and cedar, light and reassuring.

Wen Qingrang gently placed her in the wheelchair and carefully adjusted the blanket for her before pushing her forward from behind.

The two went straight to the first floor from the elevator. When they came out of the door, Jiang Ranxing realized that this hospital was not built like a hospital at all. From the outside, it looked like a classical European church. There were fields of flowers and green plants outside, and in the center there was an angel statue and a huge fountain. Even at night, the beauty could not be taken away by the darkness. The moonlight spread on the earth and became even softer and more tender.

Seeing this scenery, Jiang Ranxing felt much more relaxed. Finally away from the stuffy hospital bed, breathing in the fresh air outside, his mood was bound to be great.

Wen Qingrang quietly pushed her to a bench by the fountain, a perfect viewpoint, and they stopped.

"Are you feeling any better, Ranxing?" Wen Qingrang asked. "Is there anything that's bothering you?"

"No, everything is fine," Jiang Ranxing said with a smile. "By the way, Qingrang, how long have I been lying here? What happened before that?"

Wen Qingrang thought that Jiang Ranxing was simply asking what had happened during this period.

So he said, "You've been lying here for almost two months. I brought you from China to here abroad in the hope that you could rest and recover properly. Come to think of it, the doctor said today that he didn't know when you would wake up. I didn't expect you to give me such a surprise so soon."

Jiang Ranxing seemed to have taken it to heart, and then asked, "Then why did I become like this?"

Wen Qing's gaze lingered for two seconds before her brows furrowed slightly as she said, "If I had been by your side back then, perhaps you wouldn't have had that terrible car accident. It's all my fault. If I had been with you, maybe we could have kept our appointment on time the next day."

Wen Qingrang still feels guilty to this day. After all, the day after that was the day they were supposed to have the abortion, if he had been by Jiang Ranxing's side beforehand, this might not have happened, the car accident might have been avoided, and Jiang Ranxing wouldn't have been so badly injured.

Jiang Ranxing seemed to have noticed that Wen Qingrang was caught in some kind of sadness, but she still couldn't quite grasp it.

Jiang Ranxing asked with a puzzled look, "Car accident...the next day, what appointment?"

Upon hearing Jiang Ranxing's question, Wen Qingrang looked up and saw Jiang Ranxing's bewildered face.

Wen Qingrang didn't speak. After thinking for a moment, he tentatively asked, "Do you remember what you were doing and where the car accident happened?"

Jiang Ranxing tried hard to recall, and then slowly said, "It should be that when I was driving out to clear my head, I had an accident on the mountain road in the suburbs and collided with a small van."

After listening to her, Wen Qingrang's heart temperature slowly dropped. He calmly looked at Jiang Ranxing's face and didn't notice anything amiss.

Jiang Ranxing was right about the car accident, and the outcome was correct, but the cause was not what she described.

Wen Qingrang pointed to himself and asked, "Then do you remember who I am?"

Jiang Ranxing suddenly laughed, thinking that Wen Qingrang was joking with her.

"Qingrang, what's wrong with you? Why are you asking such a question? You're my friend. Do you think I don't remember anything after sleeping for so long?"

Wen Qingrang looked at Jiang Ranxing with some confusion.

What's wrong with her?

Jiang Ranxing is no different now than before, but there seems to be something different about him.

Wen Qingrang looked at Jiang Ranxing with a puzzled expression: "Don't you remember what we were supposed to do the day after the car accident?"

Jiang Ranxing lowered his head and thought for a while before saying, "Let's go eat? Or is there some exhibition we want to see?"

Wen Qingrang remained silent, but doubts arose in his mind. Jiang Ranxing's reaction was clearly not wrong, but there seemed to be something wrong with his memory.

"What's wrong? Did I say something wrong?" Jiang Ranxing asked casually, not sensing anything amiss.

Wen Qingrang smiled and shook his head, replying, "No, I was just worried that you might not remember anything if you lay down for too long, so I asked."

Jiang Ranxing laughed too: "It can't be that bad. With you taking care of me, I should be recovering quite well. When I was unconscious, I could occasionally hear you talking beside me. You said the scenery here is beautiful, and I also want to go out and see it with you."

“Okay, once you’ve recovered a bit more, I’ll take you for a walk.” Wen Qingrang said, then pushed Jiang Ranxing toward the flower bushes. “Now, let’s look at the flowers here first.”

The two figures gradually disappeared into the distance among the flowers.

After walking around for a while, they returned to the ward. Jiang Ranxing's body was not yet strong enough to stay active, so Wen Qingrang carried her to the bed again. Before long, Jiang Ranxing fell asleep again.

Wen Qingrang left the ward and stood by the window in the corridor, gazing into the distance, lost in thought.

It wasn't until the next day, after chatting with Jiang Ranxing for a while and putting her to sleep, that Wen Qingrang went to see the doctor.

Wen Qingrang, sitting opposite the doctor, said, "From the time she woke up last night until today, I talked to her and found that her memory seems to have some kind of deviation. The results are all correct, but the causes are wrong. It seems that she can only remember the whole process of the good things that happened. If it was a bad cause, she seems to beautify the cause as a non-existent process. It's as if all the painful memories have disappeared."

After listening, the doctor retrieved Jiang Ranxing's medical record on the computer and said, "Let's do a head examination for Ms. Jiang first, and then I will conduct a face-to-face consultation."

Wen Qingrang nodded: "Okay, but don't tell her about this yet, I'm afraid it will put pressure on her."

"Yes, that's fine, no problem."

So Wen Qingrang took Jiang Ranxing for a full set of examinations.

"It's a normal checkup, don't be afraid." Wen Qingrang only told Jiang Ranxing this, without saying anything else.

Jiang Ranxing doesn't care much about these things now, so he readily accepted all kinds of examinations and doctor's consultations.

When Wen Qingrang saw Jiang Ranxing's condition, he found that she was obviously not affected in any way, and her condition was even better than before the incident.

Because she looked much more relaxed, no longer as if she was being weighed down and couldn't breathe, as before.

Wen Qingrang was very happy about this change in her; she was much better than the woman who used to be constantly mired in sadness.

Wen Qingrang didn't tell her anything, but instead went to the doctor to ask about the results.

The doctor handed the test results to Wen Qing and let him see them.

The doctor said, "According to the examination results, although Ms. Jiang has woken up, her brain nerves were actually injured in the previous car accident. Generally speaking, the results of trauma are not the same for everyone. Some people are not affected at all, while others will lose their memory. Ms. Jiang is one of them. Her memory has been damaged and biased."

"Of course, this cannot be entirely a problem of physiological structure. It also includes psychological factors. For example, if the body experiences major trauma while the mind experiences a certain degree of damage, it is possible to cause the same result as Ms. Jiang. It may be due to the influence of dual factors, which cause her unpleasant negative memories to be selectively covered up or disappear, and the brain protectively retains only the pleasant memories that are beneficial to her."

Wen Qingrang understood the doctor's meaning: "Will this have any adverse effects on her health?"

The doctor replied, "From the physiological examination results, there is no impact whatsoever. Her bodily functions are steadily recovering. From a psychological perspective, I don't think it's a bad thing either. On the contrary, if she forgets the unpleasant memories, she can maintain a more relaxed and positive state, which is beneficial to her."

“Mr. Wen, you can think about it. When we are alive, we often have various problems because of negative emotions. Emotions are very important to us. Sometimes, it is very rare to be able to maintain a good mood.”

Wen Qing listened to all the doctor's advice and felt that the doctor's words made no problem.

Jiang Ranxing used to frequently feel sad or heartbroken because of that failed marriage.

If she could forget all of this now, she would live a much more carefree life.

He only hoped that she could live freely and without restraint.

As long as Jiang Ranxing is happy, everything else is fine.

Wen Qingrang said goodbye to the doctor and returned to the ward. Jiang Ranxing's spirits were getting better day by day, which made Wen Qingrang very happy.

Soon after, Jiang Ranxing was able to get out of bed and walk around freely, and Wen Qingrang stayed by her side and protected her.

When things were almost back to normal, Jiang Ranxing started thinking about work.

On the day of her discharge, Jiang Ranxing got her computer and opened her work message list and email in the car. There were so many work-related things in there that she could hardly count them all.

Jiang Ranxing was clearly taken aback by the amount of work.

"How much have I missed?" Jiang Ranxing couldn't help but sigh.

Wen Qingrang turned his head to look at the scene while the light was red and smiled, "Take your time. There are people looking after your work, so you don't need to rush."

After all, Jiang Ranxing had already delegated all the tasks to others before the incident. Even though she had been gone for so long, nothing major had happened. It was just that everyone could only do their usual work while she was away.

Jiang Ranxing nodded, and after reading the emails, he realized that nothing was wrong.

Jiang Ranxing replied to Mia with a message, and Mia immediately made a video call.

"Sis!!!! Where have you been, sis! I was so worried about you, I thought something had happened to you!"

Jiang Ranxing smiled awkwardly. She had indeed encountered an accident, but she didn't want Mia to worry.

"It's nothing serious, everything's fine now, Mia, don't worry."

Mia was crying, but she felt a little relieved when she heard that Jiang Ranxing's tone and condition seemed good.

Jiang Ranxing could only keep reassuring her that he was really fine before Mia felt relieved.

Mia saw Jiang Ranxing's surroundings through the video and said, "Sis, are you in the car? I see English everywhere outside your car. Are you abroad?"

"Yes, I'm abroad," Jiang Ranxing nodded. "For quite some time now."

Mia asked, "I knew it! We couldn't find you. So you've gone abroad. No wonder Fu Shenyuan couldn't find you either."

Jiang Ranxing was stunned for a moment when she heard Fu Shenyuan's name, but then she regained her composure and asked in confusion, "Why is he looking for me? Aren't we already divorced?"

Jiang Ranxing didn't understand. They were divorced and had no contact anymore. Why did he want to see her?

Just as Mia was about to say something, Wen Qingrang interrupted her.

Wen Qingrang said, "Burning Star, we've arrived."

Jiang Ranxing looked up slightly and saw a very beautiful villa across the street, with flowers and trees entwined around it, which looked great in the sunlight.

Wen Qingrang said to Mia on the other end of the phone, "Your sister needs to rest more. Let's talk about it when we get back to China."

Mia seemed to understand, but not quite, so she nodded and said, "Then you two enjoy your vacation. I won't bother you any longer."

Although Mia didn't know Wen Qingrang, she could roughly guess what their relationship was after hearing him speak to Jiang Ranxing so gently. Not wanting to disturb them any further, she hung up the phone.

Jiang Ranxing's gaze was drawn to the beautiful scenery before him, so he pushed open the car door, got out, and walked into the villa.

Everything around her made her feel relaxed and comfortable; it felt like she hadn't felt this at ease in a long time.

Jiang Ranxing turned to look at Wen Qingrang, who was also smiling at her.

Jiang Ranxing's cheeks flushed slightly: "Thank you, Qingrang, I really like it."

"I'm glad you're happy." Seeing her happy made Wen Qingrang feel better too.

The two of them went inside the villa and toured around. Wen Qingrang then asked Jiang Ranxing to sit at the dining table and wait for him.

Wen Qingrang brought out the fish soup that he had prepared in advance, ladled a bowl for Jiang Ranxing, and placed it in front of her. The two of them enjoyed the quiet time together.

While drinking soup, Jiang Ranxing asked, "Mia said Fu Shenyuan has been looking for me. Why is he looking for me? Is there anything we haven't settled after our divorce, like property division or something? I can't quite remember. Do you know?"

Wen Qingrang's hand holding the soup spoon stiffened slightly, but then he took a sip of fish soup as if nothing had happened.

"Probably so. The division of property after a family divorce is relatively unclear. Maybe there's something that wasn't settled," Wen Qingrang said, following Jiang Ranxing's guess.

Jiang Ranxing raised an eyebrow and said, "What's the point of dividing this? Just give it all to him. I'm Ember, and I'm not short of money."

Jiang Ranxing said confidently, her brows no longer showing the previous confusion and helplessness. Anyone who saw her could see the spiritedness and nonchalance in her tone.

Wen Qingrang was initially a little worried, but seeing Jiang Ranxing like this, she felt more at ease.

Wen Qingrang then tentatively asked, "Do you still remember your marriage with him, including how you got divorced?"

Jiang Ranxing rested his chin on his hand on the table, glanced around a few times, and then said nonchalantly:

"It's nothing much. I remember we got married because of an engagement, but we didn't have any feelings for each other. It was just a marriage of convenience. Although we had a child, that's normal. People usually have to have children after marriage. Later, he probably had another woman outside, and then we couldn't take it anymore, so we got a divorce."

Jiang Ranxing didn't take it seriously at all, saying, "This marriage wasn't a big deal. It's just that I shouldn't have given up my career for marriage. But thankfully it's all over now, so I don't have any burdens when it comes to my career."

Jiang Ranxing's words revealed her current memories: she did indeed marry Fu Shenyuan, but she had no memories of love or hate, as if their marriage was just a formality devoid of affection.

Wen Qingrang understood that all the feelings between her and Fu Shenyuan were unpleasant memories for her. Naturally, she forgot them all, whether they were memories of love or hate, they all drifted away with the wind.

Wen Qingrang felt that this was actually a good thing, so he didn't say anything more.

"Then he probably just wanted to talk to you about some trivial matters after the divorce," Wen Qingrang said.

Jiang Ranxing nodded: "I think so too. I don't really want to see him. I'll have Mia go see him for me later."

After finishing his sentence, Jiang Ranxing continued to savor the delicious fish soup, showing no sign of paying attention to the previous conversation.

In her current mindset, divorce is just a normal thing that happened in the past, and there's nothing to care about anymore.

Even if she mentions Fu Shenyuan, it's nothing; he's just an ex-husband she's separated from.

Wen Qingrang looked at her relaxed and leisurely appearance, and smiled after a while.
