Chapter 14 Little Girl is Diligent

Chapter 14 Little Girl is Diligent

Lin Yuesha struck wherever she pointed, immediately beginning to tap Xiao Qi's left back.

"Alright, alright, to the right."

"Hmm, not bad, very comfortable," Xiao Qi continued to feign sleep.

Lin Yuesha moved to the right side again. Perhaps because the original owner was lazy and didn't work for many years, she was out of breath in no time.

"Down there, yes, right there."

Hearing the rapid breathing behind him, Xiao Qi's smile deepened.

Lin Yuesha was in agony, thinking it was all her fault for being so talkative and causing trouble for herself; otherwise, she would be sunbathing right now!

"Thank you, little sister, you're so thoughtful."

After waiting and waiting, Xiao Qi called Lin Yuesha to stop just a second before she was about to slip away, which relieved Lin Yuesha.

She had been being trained by Xiao Qi for a long time and was already complaining a bit, but when she heard his words, Lin Yuesha felt a little embarrassed.

Her stepbrother is a very honest person; he must have been overthinking things and being petty.

In the afternoon, Mrs. Chen started working again.

After the heavy snow, the road from the village to the town was impassable, so Xiao Qi could no longer go to the city.

Fortunately, the villagers brought some Korean paper, and since the house was drafty at night, she pasted another layer on top of the old paper.

"Little girl, we received quite a lot of things at home. I'm going to prepare two sets. Go and take some to your uncles later."

Chen packed two baskets, in addition to one for Lin Yuesha's maternal grandparents.

The two houses are not far apart, only a few hundred meters apart.

Chen was widowed at a young age. Her father, Old Man Chen, and mother, Zhao, were worried about her, so they separated their eldest son's family and raised Chen alone.

Now, whenever there's something good in the house, Chen remembers to send some over.

After Chen finished speaking, he was quite taken aback.

"Mom, I'm going right now. The hens at my uncle's house have stopped laying eggs. My aunt made egg custard for me to help me recover from the last eggs we had. Let's send a few more eggs over."

Lin Yuesha agreed quite readily. In winter, hens don't lay eggs frequently; sometimes you'd only see one or two eggs every ten days or so.

The villagers were saving eggs for the New Year. Several families came to exchange eggs for Spring Festival couplets. Together, they filled a large basket with dozens of eggs.

"Little girl..."

Mrs. Chen was still in shock. She had just been reflecting on whether she had been a bit too harsh on her daughter. Ever since the little girl was born, Mrs. Chen felt sorry for her for losing her father at a young age and wanted to spoil her rotten. She never let her do any chores, let alone run errands.

"Mother, I'll go first and come back soon."

Lin Yuesha generously filled a small bamboo basket with a few more eggs, waved to her mother Chen, and rushed out with the basket in a flurry.

Yesterday, my second cousin, Chen Xiaohua, was saying she wanted to eat egg pancakes, but unfortunately we were out of eggs at home. It's perfect timing that I'm bringing them over now.

"Little girl, be careful, the roads are slippery in the snow!"

Before Mrs. Chen could even think about how her daughter had suddenly become so generous and diligent, she felt a warmth in her heart. It was such a small thing, but it brought her great comfort.

In the past, villagers would gossip behind their backs, saying that doting mothers spoil their children, and that if the little girl developed a lazy and gluttonous nature, she would become infamous in the surrounding villages and probably never get married.

Hearing this, Chen felt a little sad, but she couldn't bring herself to make her daughter do the same things as the other girls in the village, starting work at five or six years old, gathering firewood, cutting pig feed, and running all over the mountains and fields. She always comforted herself, saying that her daughter would understand when she grew up.

In retrospect, she was right.

Lin Yuesha had no idea what her mother was thinking. She tightened her collar and quickened her pace.
