Chapter 996 Teasing the Bride and Groom
After Xu Da went into hiding, it was entirely up to Madam Xu and Lin Yuesha to clean up the mess.
"If it weren't for Xu Meiren's nickname, Gouzi wouldn't care so much about appearance."
Mrs. Xu couldn't understand why a grown man with a few rashes on his face would be something to hide. She, as his mother, didn't even think her son was ugly.
“Auntie, my cousin is allergic to seaweed. I estimate that this rash on his face will subside by tonight.”
On this joyous day, Xu Da encountered a series of minor mishaps, especially the sudden rain that soaked him to the bone, as if deliberately trying to expose his disguise hidden by ashes.
Lin Yuesha believes that it was precisely because he was called "Xu Meiren" (Beautiful Xu) that Xu Da developed an idol image.
Faced with a series of setbacks, Xu Da hypnotized himself and successfully married Wu Ya.
Xu Da's wedding coincided with the Dragon Boat Festival. Madam Xu generously added several more dishes to each table, including chicken, duck, fish, meat, four-happiness meatballs, and wedding cakes. Dozens of tables were set up by the sea, creating a grand spectacle. The celebrations continued, with gongs and drums beating loudly and without stopping.
When it was almost time, Lin Yuesha brought out the soaked glutinous rice and fillings, and led the female workers to wrap zongzi together.
Everyone was used to working, so they were quick and efficient, tying the different flavors of zongzi together with different colored threads.
While there was still plenty of filling, Lin Yuesha used the braised pork made by the Zhao family and the salted egg yolks that had already been pickled until they were oily to wrap several Dragon Ball-themed rice dumplings.
While wrapping the zongzi, Lin Yuesha couldn't find Luo Wang. But when the seven dragon balls were put into the pot, Luo Wang suddenly appeared behind Lin Yuesha.
"Uncle, where is my cousin?"
Lin Yuesha wiped her hands with a handkerchief. She had specially saved a Dragon Ball-themed rice dumpling for Xu Da as a silent comfort.
"He sat on the rocks and looked at the sea."
Just now, Luo Wang's lingering conscience got the better of him, and he went to find Xu Da immediately.
Xu Da sat on a high rock by the sea, and the King of Luo thought he was going to jump into the sea.
After all, they were brothers for many years, and the Prince of Luo felt it necessary to reassure Xu Da and save this innocent little life.
Upon closer inspection, he noticed that Xu Da's upper body was swaying slightly, as if he were sobbing.
"A man doesn't easily shed tears, but when I saw it, I had to go and comfort him!"
Luo Wang leaped onto the reef, only to see Xu Da turn around with a surprised look on his face and a suspicious residue at the corner of his mouth.
Xu Da wiped his mouth and pointed to the wedding cakes in his hand, saying, "The wedding cakes my mother bought are not even one ten-thousandth as good as my cousin's. They're dry, hard, and so sweet they hurt my throat. Did you bring me anything good to eat?"
Luo Wang fell silent. The one with the fragile heart wasn't Xu Da, it was himself.
Hearing that Xu Da didn't take it to heart, Lin Yuesha felt a little relieved; otherwise, she would have felt guilty because of the seaweed mask.
In the afternoon, the craftsmen spontaneously gathered together, and in addition to sea fishing, they prepared many small activities.
Lin Yuesha went out to sea with Qi Heng and caught a big fish weighing over ten kilograms.
Living in a seaside fishing village offers a leisurely and carefree life. There's a constant supply of seafood, as well as plenty of chicken, duck, and fish. Aside from the occasional strong sea breeze, there are almost no other drawbacks.
As night fell and lanterns were lit, Xu Da finally returned to the bridal chamber.
After a day of waiting, Wuya's legs and feet ached and went numb. To save Xu Da's face, no one told her what had happened.
Uya felt very uncomfortable when her veil was lifted. Thinking of the booklet, she hurriedly hid it under her skirt.
She had no mother to teach her and relied entirely on Madam Xu. However, since they were mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, it was not appropriate to be too direct. Madam Xu gave her a booklet, which was vague and only said that if she was in pain, she should kick Xu Da off the bed.
"It suddenly started raining on your way to pick up the bride, and I heard Young Master Luo laughing out loud. Why is that?"
To ease the tension, Uya took the initiative to start a conversation.
Why bring up something you shouldn't talk about? Xu Da was a man of pride; if he talked about how unlucky he was, it would be seen as a sign of a lack of authority as a husband.
Thinking of this, Xu Da replied, "I have never heard of a bride killing a chicken during the wedding procession. Madam is too ingenious. Of course everyone laughed."
Uya was puzzled. This was a step her mother-in-law had suggested adding; the rooster was to be used to make soup for Xu Da, which she said was very nourishing.
Xu Da was speechless. There was no shortage of seafood by the sea; oysters were considered an aphrodisiac. Why would he drink rooster soup, especially since it was a rooster used as a warning to others?
As soon as Xu Da closed his eyes, he saw the tragic image of a rooster dying with its eyes wide open.
"Madam, what's that under your skirt?"
Xu Da stepped forward, but saw Wu Ya looking wary and saying, "Don't come any closer!"
"I am your husband, why can't I come over?"
Even after washing up several times, Xu Da still felt the smell of bird droppings on his head.
He stepped closer, and Uya clutched the booklet in her hand, looking very nervous.
She had heard that this booklet was something she secretly read before the wedding, something her husband couldn't discover. Now that Xu Da had come along, she was about to be exposed.
Uya's hand trembled slightly, while Xu Da pressed closer. At the critical moment, Uya grabbed a feather duster from the corner and slapped Xu Da.
Upon seeing this, Xu Da became even more eager to see it.
Both husband and wife were skilled in martial arts, and they fought back and forth in the bridal chamber.
When Madam Xu arrived with Lin Yuesha and the others to make a ruckus in the bridal chamber, she saw the mess on the floor and gave Xu Da an approving look, saying, "Dog, you're more fierce than I imagined."
Xu Da was about to explain, but Madam Xu wouldn't listen. She grabbed the duster that Wuya had used, which was almost bare of feathers, and like a gust of wind, she went straight for Xu Da.
Thus, the wedding night pranks turned into Madam Xu chasing and intercepting Xu Da, and unilaterally ganging up on him.
“Mother, it’s not what you think. It’s Uya who wants to have a martial arts match with her son. We’re just having a friendly spar.”
Xu Da was extremely ashamed and angry. He was already married, but his mother still didn't give him any face.
"That sounds nice, but look at the red mark on Wuya's hand. Didn't you do it? The Xu family has never had a tradition of beating their wives. Why are you rebelling?"
A wife is meant to be cherished, not used for sparring. Don't make excuses.
Madam Xu wielded a feather duster with great skill, while Lin Yuesha cheered from the side.
Chickens and dogs were running around in the yard. Xu Da, with a long face, said, "Mother, it's not that the Xu family doesn't beat their wives, it's just that my father can't beat you."
Xu Da missed his father the most, because with his father around, his mother didn't focus on him first.
"Hey doggy, you haven't been disciplined lately, are you itching for a beating?"
A son is one's own flesh and blood, and no matter how old he is, he is still a son in Madam Xu's eyes.
Madam Xu stood there, squinting, and said, "If you don't want to get beaten, you have to answer the questions first."
Originally, Madam Xu had planned this part of the wedding night pranks, but she changed the format.
Lin Yuesha took the lead in asking the question, following Madam Xu's tone: "Cousin, how old were you when you last wet the bed?"
Uya clapped her hands, saying it was a brilliant question.
She seemed to see a miniature Xu Da, but she knew little about her husband's past.
