When Meng Sheng woke up, it was already bright daylight. The huge suite was quiet, and a faint camellia fragrance filled the air.
The first thing you see is a festive red color, and the words "We're getting married" are hanging on the wall directly in front of you.
She was dazed for a while, unable to completely shake off the shocking dream she had just experienced. A sharp pain shot into her mind, causing her to gasp in pain.
She struggled to sit up and realized that she was the only one in the room; Pei Sui was nowhere to be seen.
She raised her hand to rub her temples and called out, "Pei Sui?"
But all she received in response was silence.
She frowned, then called out again, "Pei Sui!"
Silence fell again.
Okay, it seems he's not here; I don't know where he went.
She glanced at the clock on the right wall and realized it was already past nine o'clock, well past the time to see the guests off.
In a panic, she hurriedly tried to get out of bed, not even having time to delve into the things in her dream, but suddenly realized that she was holding a cell phone in her numb and unresponsive left hand.
A pink cell phone.
She froze, her pupils contracted—wasn't this the phone she had found in her dream?
How did I end up here?
Her heart skipped a beat, and her breathing unconsciously slowed down considerably.
Could it be... something I brought from a dream?
Her back stiffened, and the numb arm gradually regained feeling. Her fingers lightly touched the screen, and the screen lit up. Sure enough, the screensaver that came into view was a picture of her daughter, Jiaojiao, from her previous life.
Meng Sheng was stunned.
I have absolutely no idea what's going on.
Why did the phone appear in front of her when she woke up?
And her mother, just disappeared like that?
Where should she look for her?
There were still so many things left unsaid and so many questions left unasked.
Her eyes welled up with tears, which streamed down her cheeks. She tentatively unlocked the screen saver, only to find it was password protected. Her hand trembled slightly as she stared at the cute, innocent smiling face on the screen saver, her chaotic mind lost in thought.
In the dream, her mother didn't explain many things clearly, and she suddenly regretted that she had been so busy crying.
If I had asked more clearly, I wouldn't be completely baffled by some things now.
The fact that a phone can use Jiaojiao's photo as its screensaver suggests that the phone is very likely hers.
Was it her own in her previous life?
She thought for a moment and tried entering her birthday, but it showed that the password was incorrect and she only had four chances to try.
When is Jiaojiao's birthday?
She remembered dreaming about a date before.
She twitched her fingers slightly, entered the password, and the screen instantly jumped to the desktop, which still contained a picture of Jiao Jiao. The difference was that this picture also included her; the mother and daughter were building a snowman in the snow, laughing brightly and happily.
Meng Sheng suddenly felt a lump in her throat.
It's unclear whether she felt regret for her daughter, who had no connection to her in this life and wouldn't exist, or heartache over her past life.
She was logged out of WeChat and the password was wrong, so she didn't log back in. Instead, she opened her photo album, which contained about two thousand photos, about 80% of which were of Jiaojiao, and she could also watch many of the short videos she had taken.
Meng Sheng felt somewhat dazed, as if seeing these things was as if Jiao Jiao were still alive.
To be honest, in this life, she didn't have much affection for Jiaojiao; the sense of destiny between mother and daughter was much weaker.
But considering her past life, she still felt pity for this unfamiliar little girl.
She browsed through the photo album for half an hour until her eyes started to hurt, at which point she exited the album and unexpectedly noticed the text message icon at the bottom of her phone.
For some reason, her heart tightened inexplicably, then pounded twice, but she managed to suppress the emotion and tapped on the text message.
Sure enough, she saw her own number inside, and when she clicked on it, those familiar text messages flooded her moist eyes.
When Pei Sui returned, he saw Meng Sheng sitting on the bed crying. He quickly came over and hugged her. "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Meng Sheng looked at him with teary eyes, sniffled, and her voice was broken and trembling with sobs, "Where...where did you go?"
Pei Sui gently patted her back to comfort her, while wiping away her tears. "I went downstairs to see the guests off. I saw you were sleeping soundly and knew you were tired yesterday, so I didn't wake you up. I wanted you to sleep a little longer. What's wrong? Why are you crying like this? Tell me."
His usually cool tone wasn't very gentle, but it was full of patience, which made Meng Sheng feel very at ease.
"Have all the customers been seen off?"
"Yes, all delivered."
"Wouldn't it be bad if I didn't go? People would say we were impolite. You should have told me to get up."
"It's alright. The people staying at the hotel are all close friends and understand how tired you were yesterday. Besides, now that you're pregnant, you should rest even more."
Seeing that her tears were falling more and more, Pei Sui leaned over and took out two tissues to gently dab her cheeks. "Why are you crying?"
Meng Sheng threw herself into his arms and hugged his waist tightly. "I dreamt about my mom."
