Xu Yan looked at Xie Zhuo, who was eager to take credit, and couldn't help but laugh and cry.
The man in front of her was clearly older than her, both now and in her previous life, but she always felt that he was particularly good at acting cute.
It's still that kind of coquettishness that makes it hard to refuse.
"You," Xu Yan glanced at Da Bao and Xiao Bao, the two little brats staring at them intently, "you're allowed to eat an extra bowl of rice today."
Xu Yan had barely finished speaking when Zheng Xiaopeng stepped into their yard.
Upon hearing Xu Yan's words, he quickly glanced at Xie Zhuo, and then, as if thorns had grown in the yard, he couldn't even stand still.
He put down the half-bucket of fish he was holding and started walking outside.
Then, shifting my gaze, I saw two broken sticks standing by the gate.
Zheng Xiaopeng: "..."
The third brother's life is really damn tough!
I heard before that this young Xu, a former educated youth, said that after getting married she would be in charge of the household and that she would let her husband eat whatever he wanted.
He always thought it was just a casual remark, but he never expected to actually run into it today!
The third brother didn't know if he felt awkward or not, but he certainly didn't dare to stay a moment longer.
Zheng Xiaopeng ran off like a dog chasing after him, not even bothering to take Xiao Shuanzi with him. Xu Yan walked over and glanced at the bucket, looking somewhat puzzled.
"Why did your dad just leave the bucket at our house and then leave?" Xu Yan asked.
The bucket was full of small fish, each about the size of a palm, jumping around lively; there seemed to be quite a few.
“My mom said these are for you aunties to eat,” Xiao Shuanzi said. “We have half a bucket of these too. Today, Dad and Uncle San caught a lot of fish.”
He gestured with his arm as he described it, and the smile on his face was quite endearing.
Xu Yan originally wanted Xie Zhuo to return it, but after thinking about it, she accepted it instead.
A couple of days ago, whenever Xiao Shuanzi came over for dinner, they would invite him to eat with them. They also gave some to Li Aihua and the others, probably because she wanted to return the favor a little.
After all, villagers might not eat meat all year round, so these fish are the best they can offer.
Can……
Xu Yan looked into the bucket that Xie Zhuo had brought back.
Mostly half a bucket of fish.
"You two have probably fished all the fish out of this river," Xu Yan said.
Before Xie Zhuo could speak, Xiao Shuanzi excitedly chimed in, "Third Uncle is amazing! My dad had never caught a fish before, but today he caught so many with Third Uncle!"
After saying that, he even jumped up and down a little.
She looked at Xie Zhuo with bright, sparkling eyes.
They practically had the word "worship" etched onto their foreheads.
Seeing his stance, Da Bao and Xiao Bao joined in, shouting, "My third uncle has always been incredibly powerful because he's the eldest in our family..."
Before he could utter the word "baby," Xie Zhuo quickly covered Da Bao's mouth.
"Let's go help in the kitchen. It's Auntie's birthday today, and the three of us will make longevity noodles for her." Without waiting for Xiao Shuanzi's reaction, he picked up one in each hand and headed to the kitchen.
Xu Yan's face turned red from trying to suppress her laughter, but she burst out laughing as she watched Xie Zhuo enter the kitchen.
Xiao Shuanzi paused for a few seconds, then looked at Xu Yan and asked, "Auntie, can I make you longevity noodles?"
“Okay,” Xu Yan said with a smile, “but you should go home and tell your parents that you’ll be staying at your aunt’s house for dinner today.”
She walked towards the kitchen only after Xiao Shuanzi had run out of the yard.
While processing the fish, Xie Zhuo also lectured his two little ones, telling them not to keep using terms like "treasure" in their mouths.
He only shut his mouth when he saw Xu Yan come in.
Lunch was delicious. Because Xiao Shuanzi was there, the lunch table was lively, like a small party. The three of them had a discussion about whether Xu Yan was a fairy or not. It wasn't intense, but the emotions were very much on point.
The consensus was that even the fairies were not as beautiful as Third Aunt.
Xu Yan was amused by their words and couldn't stop laughing.
Xie Zhuo's gaze remained fixed on Xu Yan, noticing her smiling with her eyes crinkled at the corners, indicating she was in a good mood.
When Li Aihua heard Zheng Xiaopeng's words, she thought he was joking.
"With Xu, that educated youth's personality, how could he possibly bully Xie Laosan? That kid is cunning and shrewd; he's the kind of person who always gets taken advantage of."
“Don’t disbelieve me,” Zheng Xiaopeng said, “I think this educated youth is not simple.”
"Hey, are you still staring at her?" Li Aihua raised her voice a few decibels.
Zheng Xiaopeng: "..."
"Don't eat today," Li Aihua said.
In the afternoon, Xu Yan spent the whole afternoon reading.
Xie Zhuo took the two little ones for a stroll along the outer edge of the mountain. They encountered many people digging for wild vegetables in the area and also saw a few unfamiliar faces.
He stared at those people for a few moments, then looked away and picked some wild vegetables as well.
"Third brother, I heard you caught a lot of fish with Zheng Er this morning?" someone asked.
“Not many,” Xie Zhuo said.
“You’re not telling me the truth,” the man clicked his tongue. “Quite a few people saw it.”
"You saw it and you still asked?" Xie Zhuo didn't even look up, shaking the soil off the roots of the wild vegetables.
The man choked, "It's really strange, how come we can't catch any, but you catch them every time? Next time, bring your brothers along."
Xie Zhu snorted, it was unclear whether he responded or not.
The main problem was that he wasn't very familiar with this person. Qingshan Brigade was a large place with many people. For the first twenty years of his life, he had been hanging out with people whose families supported his education. In the last few years, besides working in the fields to earn work points, he had been thinking about repairing watches and had no time to "make friends" with other people.
The men in the village don't have many forms of entertainment; they either play chess or cards.
He hadn't participated in either of these two things.
