Chapter 204 Spreading Rumors

Eating two steamed buns is not a big deal, but if you know what the other person means and still eat their buns, then that's a bit inappropriate.

Xu Yan smiled and pushed the money notes over anyway.

Seeing her insistence, Guo Jiazhi finally accepted the money and tickets. He waited until Xu Yan finished eating the buns, but he couldn't say another word to her.

Originally, I thought it was just a minor incident, but unexpectedly, the fact that Xu Yan ate two steamed buns from Guo Jiazhi spread throughout the entire school in just two days.

It's mainly because she's pretty, so she gets a lot of attention.

That day, when Guo Jiazhi bought steamed buns, there were a few classmates around. To show off, he deliberately said to the cafeteria worker as he was packing the buns for him, "Master, these steamed buns aren't fattening, are they?"

These days, people don't have much fat in their stomachs, so they love to eat the fattest meat, and very few people specifically choose to eat lean meat.

The cook glanced at him and said, "Fatty, if you don't like fatty food, then get two vegetarian dishes."

Guo Jiazhi gave him a smirk, "It's not me eating it, it's the woman eating it. She doesn't like fatty meat."

This wasn't something made up; Bai Ling had mentioned it during a casual chat with him, saying that Xu Yan must come from a wealthy family because he always picks out the leanest cuts of meat, probably because he eats too much at home.

Several people teased him, asking him repeatedly who he bought it for and whether he was secretly dating someone.

Guo Jiazhi did not admit it.

But his smug expression clearly indicated something was wrong.

Then someone secretly followed him and discovered that he first spoke a few words to Bai Ling, and then the two of them went to a study room where he gave the steamed buns he had bought to Xu Yan.

Those who followed didn't see the money and tickets on the table, but they did see Xu Yan actually take the steamed bun and even smile at Guo Jiazhi.

The rumors became increasingly outrageous as they spread.

Some people said that they noticed something was off between Xu Yan and Guo Jiazhi when school started. Guo Jiazhi always seemed to be pointing his nose at people, but he was very cheerful around Xu Yan.

Some people say they saw Xu Yan holding hands with a man under the cover of darkness, and that man is probably Guo Jiazhi.

Some people say that Xu Yan doesn't stay in the school dormitory at night, and neither does Guo Jiazhi; maybe the two of them...

These past few days, whenever Xu Yan went to school, she could always feel all sorts of eyes staring at her.

The same was true in the classroom. The classroom, which was noisy at first, suddenly became completely silent after she walked in. Many people were secretly looking at her and whispering to each other.

Xu Yan frowned.

"Xu Yan," Bai Ling waved to Xu Yan, and Xu Yan walked over.

After settling into her seat, she looked around and asked Bai Ling, "What's wrong with them?"

"You don't know yet?" Bai Ling looked at her.

"Know what?" Xu Yan's brows were still slightly furrowed.

Da Bao caught a cold yesterday. Xie Zhuo had a class in the evening, so she took Da Bao to the hospital as soon as she got off school. They didn't get home until very late, so she had no energy to focus on anything other than studying.

“I don’t know which big mouth is spreading rumors about you and Guo Jiazhi behind your back, but now the whole school knows about it,” Bai Ling said.

"What could possibly happen between him and me?" Xu Yan was taken aback.

"You weren't..."

Bai Ling had just begun speaking when several people suddenly appeared at the classroom door. One of them raised his voice and called out, "Xu Yan, who is Xu Yan? Come out here for a moment."

The students who were whispering in the classroom immediately shut up. They glanced at the door first, and then all turned to look at Xu Yan.

Although Xu Yan didn't know who the people outside were, she saw Xie Zhuo behind one of them. Xie Zhuo was tall and could be easily spotted in the crowd.

She stared at Xie Zhuo for a while.

Xie Zhuo had a cold and aloof expression on his face. When he looked at her, he probably wanted to force a smile, but before he could even raise his lips, the person who had just spoken moved aside and blocked his view.

Xu Yan stood up and walked outside.

It wasn't until Xu Yan arrived at the principal's office that she learned what had happened.

Someone anonymously wrote a letter to the principal, saying that Xu Yan not only violated school rules by secretly dating, but also had an ambiguous relationship with Guo Jiazhi, a classmate, and was having an affair.

The letter stated that he had witnessed Xu Yan walking side-by-side with a man into an alley late at night on more than one occasion, and he suspected that the man was Guo Jiazhi.

The letter also said that B University should severely punish students like Xu Yan who don't take school rules and regulations seriously, otherwise other students in the school will follow suit.

The words were quite harsh, as if Xu Yan had ruined B University's century-old reputation by dating someone, and if she wasn't severely punished, B University would be completely finished.

The principal's eyebrows twitched repeatedly as he watched.

He initially said that students were strictly prohibited from dating during school hours so that they would cherish their time and opportunities and devote 100% of their energy and attention to their studies. However, it did not mean that he was completely heartless and would eliminate any potential romantic relationships at the first sign of trouble.

But objectively speaking, if Xu Yan really does disregard school rules and regulations as described in the letter, then he cannot let him off easily.

Unexpectedly, before he could even finish explaining the cause and before Xu Yan could say anything, Xie Zhuo from the Mathematics Department, who had gone with him to look for the person, turned cold.

“Principal,” Xu Yan grabbed Xie Zhuo, who was about to speak, and spoke first, “Everything must be based on evidence. You can’t convict me just because of a report letter that is entirely based on ‘I think’ and ‘I believe’ from beginning to end.”
