There was nothing she could do; her mother was busy having dinner with one of her favorite literary figures and couldn't attend to them for the time being.
On the day Xu Yan finally returned to City B, Xie Zhuo set off from home early to pick her up at the station.
Qin Siming had been following Xu Yan since he got off the train, excitedly sharing his experiences from the exchange meeting with her, when he noticed a gaze that carried a hint of warning and hostility as it stared at him.
Qin Siming looked up and met Xie Zhuo's less-than-friendly gaze.
Although Xu Yan had been in a good mood every day recently, her expression remained indifferent until she saw Xie Zhuo, at which point her lips curled up in a smile.
Her already beautiful and striking face became even more radiant.
Xu Yan walked towards Xie Zhuo, and as Xie Zhuo reached out to take her luggage and held her hand, she smiled and said, "I'm back."
The others who followed them out immediately started jeering when they saw the two of them like this.
"Wow, this feels like watching a TV drama. They even drove up and brought flowers to pick us up," a girl said.
"Aren't you envious? Envious that you should find one too," someone interjected.
"Sigh, even if I were to look for someone, I couldn't find someone like Xie Zhuo, who has been so good to Sister Xu Yan for decades."
Upon hearing her sour remark, Qin Siming replied, "The main thing is that you can't compare to my senior sister either."
The girl seemed about to say something, but Xu Yan didn't listen carefully. He turned around, said goodbye to the others, and called out to Qin Siming.
"What's wrong, Senior Sister?" Qin Siming took a step forward.
Xu Yan glanced at Xie Zhuo, who seemed reluctant but didn't say anything.
"Where do you live? How about your brother-in-law gives you a ride if he's going that way?" Xu Yan emphasized the word "brother-in-law" and then glanced at Xie Zhuo out of the corner of her eye.
Xie Zhuo originally wanted to pretend, but the corners of his mouth still turned up slightly.
Qin Siming wasn't so oblivious. He knew that Xu Yan and Xie Zhuo hadn't seen each other for a long time and might want to have a private chat. Since it wasn't convenient for him to be in the car, he waved his hand and refused.
“It’s alright, senior sister,” Qin Siming said. “You and your brother-in-law go first. I’ll go with the others. There’s a bus.”
Although Xie Zhuo missed Xu Yan very much, he only asked her if she felt uncomfortable or unaccustomed to going to another province. Although he had asked her these questions on the phone before, Xu Yan still patiently and earnestly repeated them to him.
"That's fine then," Xie Zhuo drove the car into the garage, and before even getting out, he turned his head and kissed Xu Yan.
They hadn't seen each other for more than half a month, and his movements were a little hurried, but after Xu Yan moved uncomfortably, he slowly slowed down and gently licked Xu Yan's lips.
The kiss lasted for several minutes, and when they separated, Xu Yan finally had a chance to ask him about Xiao Wu.
"Did you cry?" Xu Yan asked.
“I wasn’t used to it when you first left, but it got better later,” Xie Zhuo tugged at his pants to make sure he wasn’t too tight and uncomfortable. “My mom has been taking care of me for the past two days. I’ll go pick her up in a bit.”
“Yes,” Xu Yan replied, “She’s been my biggest worry these past few days.”
As Xie Zhuo turned his gaze towards him, he added, "And you too."
