Chapter 82 No More Pretense

Xu Yan knew how red her face was without even looking in a mirror.

Xie Zhuo was very close to her, his head slightly lowered, his eyes fixed on her lips, as if he could kiss her again if he saw her smile once more.

"I, I, I didn't laugh," Xu Yan stammered, hurriedly pushing Xie Zhuo aside.

Xie Zhuo was already dizzy, feeling like the whole world was spinning, and when he was pushed like that, his head hit the wall with a "bang".

He raised his hand and touched his forehead, looking somewhat bewildered.

Xu Yan didn't expect that her gentle push would cause Xie Zhuo's head to hit her head, but after observing Xie Zhuo's reaction, she was certain that he was still drunk.

How much did they drink?!

He was hit on the side. He touched his forehead, but couldn't he tell where it hurt?

When Xie Zhuo was being led into the house, Da Bao and Xiao Bao also ran over. They had seen the whole thing, but they didn't quite understand it.

Seeing that his third uncle was still touching his forehead, Xiao Bao quietly tugged at Da Bao and whispered in a voice that everyone could hear, "Did Third Uncle get beaten up by Third Aunt because he kissed her?"

Da Bao immediately glanced at Xu Yan, then put a little finger to his lips and said, "Shh, keep your voice down. You can't just kiss your third aunt like that in the future."

Xu Yan: "..."

After finally getting Xie Zhuo into the house, hoping to let him sleep for a while, Xie Zhuo said he hadn't washed up and refused to get on the kang (heated brick bed).

Xu Yan had no choice but to go get him some water. However, before she could even walk out, Xie Zhuo stopped her, insisting on going himself. Xu Yan saw that Xie Zhuo was unsteady on his feet after being bumped into, and she had to persuade him to stop.

When she went out to fetch water and came back in, she found Xie Zhuo already asleep on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed).

Well, that's really something else.

However, after all this commotion, Xu Yan's initial bewilderment, embarrassment, and shame at being suddenly kissed were completely dispelled.

She gave Xie Zhu a thin sheet to cover herself before turning around and looking around the room.

After a few days away, the room looks completely different.

The old washbasin was replaced with a new one, with a large red double happiness character on the bottom. A small nail was nailed to the wall directly opposite, and a round mirror with a diameter of about fifteen centimeters was hanging on it.

The washbasin stand is probably newly bought as well.

Because when Xu Yan came last time, she saw the one Xie Zhuo made himself, which looked much rougher than this.

Two new towels were draped on the new washbasin stand.

Below, where the soap is placed, is a bar of fragrant soap.

Xu Yan picked up the soap and looked at it for a few moments. She wondered where Xie Zhuo had gotten it in such a short time. She had heard from an aunt that it was a rare and hard-to-buy item.

After putting down the soap, Xu Yan looked around at other places.

A square wooden table has been placed where the small bookshelf used to be.

She walked over.

On the wooden table was a mirror, and next to it were several bottles of face cream, a peach wood comb, hair ties, and some clam oil for hand rubbing.

To prevent the table from chipping and looking bad, a clean floral cloth was laid on top of it.

A small dressing table arranged by Xie Zhuo.

Because Xu Yan had previously mentioned being afraid of trouble, he didn't ask Xu Yan's opinion when he was doing these things. He probably assumed she liked light blue because he often saw her wearing light blue dresses, so the tablecloth was also light blue.

Xu Yan stared at the small dressing table for a while, then turned and walked towards Xie Zhuo.

Xie Zhuo was fast asleep.

He was lying on his back, with one arm draped over his eyes, covering most of his face.

All you could see was half of his straight nose, his tightly pursed lips, his clean and smooth chin, and below that was his Adam's apple.

Xu Yan initially said she wanted to marry Xie Zhuo partly to leave the educated youth settlement as soon as possible, and partly because she was attracted to his looks.

Xie Zhuo's looks are just right for her.

Because of his face and his physique, she, who never even bought lottery tickets before, took a big gamble this time.

I'm betting that she's not that bad at judging people or that she's not that unlucky, and that she'll be able to marry a bad guy out of a hundred.

Turns out, she actually guessed right.

The bet... turned out right.

Xu Yan stared at Xie Zhuo for a while, then heard Da Bao's voice outside and walked towards the door.

Da Bao and Xiao Bao were squatting next to a basin of water, playing in it. They didn't see an ant hole next to their feet. After squatting for a while, several ants crawled on them.

Da Bao tried to grab it but couldn't. Unexpectedly, an ant crawled into his clothes and bit into the soft flesh on his stomach.

"Don't move, don't move, let your third aunt take a look," Xu Yan quickly pulled open Da Bao's clothes, took out the ants, and then moved the two of them to a different position.

Hearing the commotion outside, Xie Zhuo finally took his arm down after a long while, rubbed the spot where he had been hit, and sighed.

But before he could finish his sigh, he was suddenly interrupted by someone at the door.

"Not pretending to be asleep anymore?" Xu Yan looked at him.

Xie Zhuo paused for a moment.

It took him a long time to sit up from the kang (a heated brick bed).

“I thought,” Xu Yan took a few steps forward, “that you would at least lie down until the afternoon.”

Xie Zhuo didn't speak, keeping his eyes down and not looking up.

"You dare to do it but not admit it?" Xu Yan had already walked to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), staring intently at Xie Zhuo.

After a long pause, she finally heard Xie Zhuo say, "No."

Xu Yan raised an eyebrow.

I don't know if this is how people feel when they're embarrassed or shy, but as soon as I see someone who's even more embarrassed or shy than me, I feel like I'm not so embarrassed or shy anymore.

She was initially a little embarrassed to face Xie Zhuo because of what had just happened, but now that she saw Xie Zhuo's ears and Adam's apple were red, she suddenly felt that her own emotions were nothing.

"No? Then what is it?"

Xu Yan moved a few more inches closer to him.

He had a mocking smile on his face.

The delicate aroma diluted the alcohol's odor somewhat.

Looking at it up close, Xu Yan noticed that Xie Zhuo's eyelashes were really long, and her skin was also very good. Not only was there not a single pimple, but there wasn't even a single acne scar. Her lips were also beautifully shaped...

She was watching intently, completely unaware that she had crossed the line. Or perhaps she was aware, but just wanted to tease Xie Zhuo on purpose.

She thought Xie Zhuo's ears were so red they looked like they were about to burn, and she found it kind of cute.

But this thought abruptly stopped when she tried to get closer, because someone was one step ahead of her.

It was pressed directly onto her lips.

It smelled slightly of alcohol, but mostly of soap from the clothes.

Xie Zhuo even used soap to wash his clothes before getting married?

He didn't stick out his tongue either.

Is it... that you don't know how?

Xu Yan's mind was a jumble of thoughts. She seemed to be nailed to the spot, her beautiful eyes wide open, and her cheeks burning red.

After a tense standoff lasting almost five seconds, Xie Zhuo stepped back a little and looked at her very seriously, "I will take responsibility for you for the rest of my life, if... you need it."
