"Hey Xie Zhuo, why were you so impulsive? You even dared to hit the director?"
A professor from the mathematics department looked at the principal, then at Xie Zhuo, and finally hesitated before trying to smooth things over, saying, "I know you hate evil and can't stand seeing your classmates being bullied, but we also need to be mindful of our methods. We can't just resort to violence in the future."
"after?"
A teaching assistant who always followed Nie Jianguo around snorted, glanced at him, and then looked at Xie Zhuo with a cold smile, "A student like him would be a menace if he stayed at the school."
"Besides, what do you mean by 'hating evil like poison'? What did Director Nie say that led to him beating her like that?"
“Principal,” the teaching assistant said, turning her gaze back to the principal, “those two were really too…”
That's outrageous.
Unfortunately, before he could finish speaking, the principal impatiently interrupted him, "Alright, stop making noise all the time, what do you think this place is?"
The teaching assistant was a little resentful, but he kept quiet.
The office was quiet again.
The principal glanced back and forth between Xu Yan and Xie Zhuo a few times, finally fixing his gaze on Xu Yan. His aged face was full of authority and solemnity.
"Didn't you just say that everything in the letter was a rumor? Then tell me, what's the truth?"
Xu Yan also felt that the two of them had acted a bit impulsively just now, but if she had to choose again, she... would still not hesitate to hit that damn director's leg with a stool.
Can a leader just casually smear students with his words?
She had thought she would be punished by the school for this, but the principal asked her this question.
She turned her head and glanced at Xie Zhuo.
Xie Zhuo kept his eyes down, looking at her.
Xu Yan pursed her lips, then reached out and took Xie Zhuo's hand before looking at the principal. "I did eat the steamed buns that Guo brought, but I don't think that proves anything. There's nothing wrong with occasionally eating one or two steamed buns from a classmate, right?"
The principal frowned, but did not refute anything.
“And I paid him,” Xu Yan continued, “I gave him the money and the ticket on the spot. Bai Ling was in the classroom at the time, and she can testify to that.”
The person who heard the first half of her sentence wanted to say something, but when he heard Xu Yan say that she had given the money, he silently shut his mouth.
"As for the other things between me and Guo," Xu Yan suddenly laughed, "I find them quite funny."
"What's so funny?" someone asked instinctively.
"Since the start of the semester, I've hardly spoken to anyone except my roommates, and..."
Xu Yan paused halfway through her sentence, and when she noticed Xie Zhuo pinching her fingertips intermittently, she pulled her hand back slightly.
Xie Zhuo stopped his little actions.
"Besides, Guo knows I'm already married, so how could he possibly do anything inappropriate to me? As for me, my wife is a hundred times better than Guo, so there's no way I would be interested in him."
As soon as Xu Yan finished speaking, Xie Zhuo gripped her hand a little harder.
The eyes of the people around them nearly popped out of their sockets.
Even the principal, who had been wearing a long face, stared at her in astonishment. "What did you say?"
“I said, I’m already married,” Xu Yan smiled at the principal, then stopped smiling. “The school only stipulates that we can’t date, but it doesn’t stipulate that married people have to get a divorce, right?”
Before Xie Zhu could react to the word "divorce," she pulled his hand up slightly.
“He is my lover, Xie Zhuo. We got married three years ago and were admitted to B University together this year. Because we knew that the school prohibited dating, we didn’t tell each other.”
“We hardly ever walk together at school, so I never expected to be the subject of rumors behind my back,” Xu Yan said.
"And that director just now, without asking any questions, maliciously speculated and spread rumors about me. I don't know if he did it on purpose, but his behavior has seriously offended me."
"If the school wants to punish me, I have nothing to say, since we took action. But no matter what the final result is, we will definitely find the person who spread the rumors and cause trouble, and we will also make that director apologize publicly."
Xu Yan spoke at length, and the rest of the office staff were still speechless with shock when they heard the news that she and Xie Zhuo had been married for a long time.
Until a teacher from some department asked, "How old are you? You've already been married for three years?"
“Twenty-two years old,” Xu Yan replied, then turned his gaze to the principal.
The principal didn't know what to say. He still couldn't believe that Xu Yan and Xie Zhuo were already married. He stared at their hands, which were still clasped together, for a while, before finally looking away as if his eyes hurt.
Finally, he asked everyone to leave so he could be alone for a while.
Xu Yan glanced at the closed door, and then heard the mathematics professor say to Xie Zhuo, "We were supposed to talk about the government-sponsored study abroad program today, but this whole thing has turned into a mess and we've even offended the principal."
Xie Zhu smiled but didn't say anything.
Before his direct teacher could say anything more, he spoke up first: "It was never going to happen anyway, so just pretend it never happened."
The old professor: "..."
After everyone had left, Xu Yan pulled Xie Zhuo to a secluded pavilion and looked at him, asking, "What's this about studying abroad?"
"It's nothing," Xie Zhuo said, sitting on the stone bench. Seeing that Xu Yan was still staring at him, he sighed and took her hand. "It's really just a pipe dream."
