Chapter 137 Refuting Thanos
Thanos, clad in purple and heavy armor, descended from the sky. The energy surrounding his body tore through the air, making him appear like an unapproachable god of war, flying towards Gale with terrifying momentum.
Gel took a deep breath, then swung his right hand forcefully, sending a dark red energy tornado carrying Ronan flying towards the top of Gel's head.
"Clang!"
Thanos's fist, imbued with irresistible energy, slammed heavily into the dark red energy tornado. In an instant, the dark red energy tornado was torn apart, and Ronan hurriedly raised his weapon. Deep purple energy burst forth from the Power Stone, heading towards Thanos's fist, but it was directly suppressed at the moment of contact, and Ronan, along with his weapon, was thrown into the air.
Thanos, imbued with the force of thunder, continued to slam down on Gale below!
At that moment, Gel looked up and met Thanos's gaze. It was like a silent contest between a gale and a giant tree, both eyes filled with an unwavering confidence.
"Condense!"
Although Gol's voice was soft, it instantly shattered the distant clouds. Then, a dark red circular shield spun and blocked Gol's position above him. Countless spatial energies gathered in the higher sky, transforming into spatial blades that slashed through the air with imposing force, stabbing down towards Thanos.
"boom!"
The moment Thanos's fist touched the dark red circular shield, a shockwave instantly appeared in the surrounding air, and the booming sound traveled extremely far. Then, Gale was horrified to discover that a tremendous force came down from the dark red circular shield, accompanied by the sound of the shield shattering.
Unable to control his body, Gale involuntarily fell from the sky, but as he fell, he still managed to swing his arm forcefully, causing all the spatial blades to pierce Thanos.
"Bang! Bang!"
Two thuds echoed in quick succession, followed by two deep craters and a deafening explosion as the ground shattered. As Ger climbed out of the crater, he knew that this was the most devastating impact the Power Stone had ever made on the surface of Xandar.
But a moment later, the tremors on the ground stopped, and Ger slowly flew out of the pit, just in time to see Ronan emerging from the pit on the other side.
Thanos stood nearby with a calm demeanor, looking directly at them. However, the damaged armor on Thanos's body proved that he was not as composed as he appeared.
The three stood facing each other, forming a triangle with almost equal distances between them. Their gazes met with an air of arrogance and composure, but upon closer inspection, one could see the primal killing intent deep within their eyes.
“It’s you.” Thanos simply looked at Gale, his words devoid of any additional emotion, as if he were seeing someone he had met before.
Gel floated a meter or two above the ground, looking down at him calmly: "It's me."
He has been reborn for so long, and from the moment he opens and closes his eyes, he has basically been using Thanos as his hypothetical enemy to force himself to work hard. He has put in so much effort to gain enough strength to eliminate Thanos and prevent those possible events from happening again.
Today, he finally met the enemy he was determined to defeat, but his heart was not as excited as he had imagined. Instead, it was unusually calm, as if he had rehearsed it countless times.
Quill and Gamora, who were next to the holographic projection, held their breath. Although they knew their voices couldn't reach the other side, they still couldn't help but remain silent.
A person's name is like a tree's shadow. Thanos's infamous reputation was built on the slaughter of countless planets; the ability to stop a child from crying is far from enough to describe the terror of Thanos.
A group of people watching the holographic projection, especially Gamora, were terrified.
Because she was the one who had been with Thanos the longest, so long that her hatred had seeped into her very bones, and even though she didn't want to admit it, her fear of him was also ingrained in her very being.
Although she was determined to kill Thanos, she knew how difficult it would be. After all, Thanos was far too powerful.
"Ronan, hand over the Power Stone now, and I might let you go."
Thanos slowly turned his gaze to Ronan and spoke in a calm tone, but his voice carried a heavy sense of oppression, making Ronan's expression even more somber.
A moment later, Ronan said with a mocking and chilling smile, "We've all been fighting for thousands of years, so let's stop with the nonsense."
Thanos listened to Ronan's words and slowly shook his head: "They are indeed all frogs in a well, only knowing about temporary struggles, deeply mired in them and unable to extricate themselves, yet unaware of my ideals, and ridiculously still wanting to fight me."
At this moment, his tone was like that of a sage who was concerned about the world.
"puff."
Just then, Ger suddenly laughed out loud, a mocking smile on his face: "And what about you? What are your ideals?"
Thanos looked at Gale, but his gaze was somewhat empty, as if he could see through Gale the past buried deep within his heart: "I once lived on a very beautiful planet—Titan. Titan developed very quickly, so in the later stages, like other planets, it had too many people and not enough food and resources. When the people of this planet were fighting each other, I made a proposal, which was to kill half of them and let the other half live."
"So it was just a massacre after all." Ronan seemed to scoff at this statement, because he already knew about what happened on Thanos's home planet, Titan.
