Chapter Nine: First Encounter with the Space Stone

Leaving the central building, Gel followed Director Nick in the direction away from the exit. The soldiers they encountered along the way looked at Gel as if he were a monster.

After walking for more than ten minutes, the group arrived at a small hut. Compared to the many large tents around, this hut looked inconspicuous, but Ger sensed that there were more soldiers guarding the hut than in any of the places they had seen before.

Stepping into the small cabin and riding the elevator that descended into the ground, Ger felt himself descend for over two hundred meters before the elevator finally came to a stop. As soon as the elevator doors opened, a futuristic underground space appeared before Ger.

The underground space was filled with all sorts of novel mechanical equipment, and many researchers wearing white coats were moving around. In the very center of the underground space, there was a large mechanical device that looked like an "eye". In the middle of the mechanical device was a square transparent object that was flashing light.

Even from hundreds of meters away, Geer could sense the immense energy emanating from it. Clearly, this was the Space Stone that Geer had been longing to approach.

Following behind Director Nick, Gel slowly approached the Space Stone. The closer they got, the stronger the energy of the Space Stone, sealed within the Tesseract, became.

“We haven’t been able to properly activate the energy inside yet, so we need you to see if you can help us activate it.” Director Nick led Gel to the side of the Tesseract.

Gel examined the Tesseract closely, looking at the blue Space Stone floating inside, and couldn't help but admire it: it was the most beautiful gem he had ever seen.

“I can sense the energy contained within, but whether I can activate it requires me to test it with my own energy.” Gel turned to look at Director Nick. “But until then, you’d better step back a bit. And bring me some paper and a pen; I’m worried I won’t be able to get back on time today.”

Gel wrote a letter to Pietro and Wanda and then had Natasha deliver it to them to prevent the two from causing any trouble in their haste.

Once everything was ready, Gale took a deep breath and reached his finger toward the Cosmic Cube. A ball of gray magical energy seeped from Gale's fingertip into the Cosmic Cube.

The moment the gray magical energy touched the Space Stone, the Space Stone suddenly shone brightly, and a stream of blue energy rapidly flowed along with the gray magical energy, penetrating into Gale's body.

"Beep! Beep! Beep!"

All the instruments in the underground space started beeping. Director Nick looked at Geller's body, which was floating up on its own, and asked the researcher next to him, "What's going on?"

While the researcher's hands were busy operating the instruments, he answered Director Nick's question: "The energy released by the Cosmic Cube has exceeded our detection limit."

Director Nick squinted at the dazzling blue light in the distance, grabbed a megaphone, and shouted, "Gale, how are you?"

From within the blue light came Ger's voice: "I'm fine. The energy has been activated now, so hurry up and start your research."

Geer now felt that as spatial energy poured in, the chaotic energy in his body slowly became active and began to devour the incoming spatial energy.

As chaotic energy becomes more active, the body gradually undergoes changes.

Hearing what Ger said, the researcher on the side was a little embarrassed: "Our instruments are not yet able to handle such strong energy. If we want to conduct research, we will need to modify our machines, which will probably take 1-2 days."

Chief Nick glanced at him and uttered a single word: "Hurry!"

Director Nick felt that something was amiss, but after thinking about it carefully, he realized that it was definitely the first time Gel had seen the Tesseract and that he couldn't possibly have learned about it from anywhere else. So he forced down his doubts and continued to observe.

A week has passed since Gele underwent the transformation of spatial energy.

A couple of days ago, Director Nick was showing up frequently, but later on, he stopped coming altogether.

At this point, Pietro and Wanda finally couldn't hold back any longer.

"Could something have really happened to my brother?" Wanda has been unable to sleep for the past two days due to anxiety.

Although Gerl wrote in his letter that he might not be back for ten days or even months and told them not to worry, Wanda was concerned that Gerl had never been away from them for so long before, and she worried that he might actually be in danger.

Pietro was also getting impatient: "How about we go find Sharon?"

Although Natasha no longer lived next door after revealing her identity, Sharon, as their contact person and someone of the same age, remained their classmate and neighbor.

Wanda walked through the garden and knocked on Sharon's door.

"Wanda, Pietro, what's up?" Sharon asked, somewhat surprised to see the two approaching. Having gone to and from school together, the three had become good friends.

Wanda cut to the chase: "Sharon, we're here to ask about my brother's whereabouts. I know you probably don't know either, but could you ask Natasha for us?"

Seeing the anxious expressions on their faces, Sharon couldn't refuse, so she dialed Natasha's number.

After a brief exchange, Sharon gave Wanda an address: "Natasha is currently at our S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. You can go find her. I believe that since she gave you this address, she can take you in."

Wanda and Pietro quickly grabbed the address and headed towards S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.

"Sister Natasha, where is my brother now?" Wanda couldn't help but ask as soon as she saw Natasha.
