Chapter Fifty-Three: Impersonating Oneself...

The town at dusk is filled with the warm, lively atmosphere of everyday life.

Students finishing their playtime after school and preparing to go home, people getting off work, young couples chatting and laughing, and roadside stalls steaming hot—everything seems so pleasant.

As Ger walked down the street, looking at the familiar scenes around him, he couldn't help but feel a surge of emotions.

He was fully aware that his return to Jinling City today was impulsive, and even his actions towards Wenwu were impulsive. But he also had to admit that sometimes he couldn't control his emotions.

On the one hand, Ger knew very well that his parents, Ning Rong, and others in this life were no longer the people he knew in his previous life. Even if their appearance, personality, and age were exactly the same, they were no longer the same people.

On the other hand, Ger wanted to give himself a few days to indulge himself, even if it was just to secretly and from afar look at those "familiar" people, just for a glance.

"I'll leave after these few days, once I've confirmed that my parents are completely safe," Ger murmured.

Although he got Wenwu to hand over the masked warrior to him through a competition, this was a formal exchange, and Wenwu should not retaliate against Ning Rong and Wei Nianlin.

But just to be on the safe side, Ger decided to observe for a while first.

After walking for a while, Ger sighed deeply and sat down on the steps by the street, simply watching the people coming and going around him. The surrounding noise seemed to have nothing to do with him.

As the sun slowly dipped below the horizon, a faint darkness gradually spread from the sky, plunging the entire land into gloom. The lights of the roadside shops were also turned on, but mixed in with the fading twilight, they had a subtle, dim yellow hue.

As Ger sat there, his thoughts wandering far away. After what seemed like an eternity, a soft, sweet voice, both tentative and curious, rang out beside him, pulling him back to reality.

"Big brother, are you hungry?"

Ger looked up and saw that the person who had just spoken was a boy who looked to be about ten years old. He was thin and small, but his face still had baby fat. Most importantly, his appearance was almost exactly the same as Ger's when he was ten years old in his previous life.

At this moment, he was looking at Geer with a somewhat timid gaze.

“Yes, my brother is homeless now, so he’s hungry.” Ger smiled gently at the little boy. “Little friend, what’s your name?”

The little boy seemed to sense the kindness in Geer's tone and replied, "My name is Wei Nianming."

Ger smiled. Sure enough, it was his parents' youngest son in this life.

Wei Nianming's gaze lingered on Ge'er's face for a moment, then he asked curiously, "Big brother, why do you look so much like my brother?"

If it weren't for the fact that Ger was much taller than his brother and his face was slightly more mature, he would have definitely thought this person was his brother. This was also why Wei Nianming dared to muster up the courage to talk to Ger.

Ger couldn't help but pinch his cheek: "Because I'm your brother too."

At this point, Ger paused suddenly, as if he had thought of something, and added with a smile, "Your distant cousin."

Wei Nianming, without suspecting anything, quickly asked, "Really? Which aunt's cousin are you? What are you doing sitting here?"

Gel made up a random excuse: "I came to find your parents, but I got lost, so I'm sitting here trying to figure it out. As for which cousin you are, do you remember if I told you?"

Wei Nianming scratched his head somewhat embarrassedly, and the vinegar bottle he was holding rattled as he did so.

“My mom sent me out to buy vinegar. I’ve been out for a while now, and she’ll scold me if I don’t go back soon. Cousin, come with me, I’ll show you the way.” With that, Wei Nianming immediately turned around and gestured to Geer.

The two wandered around, passing through rows of brightly lit bungalows and buildings, and after about ten minutes, they finally approached the familiar building.

At this moment, Ge'er's heart started racing again, much to his dismay.

"Mom, I'm home." Wei Nianming opened the door and dashed towards the kitchen.

"Wei Nianming, have you been out playing somewhere again? How come you take so long to buy vinegar?" The familiar nagging voice made Ge Er look towards the kitchen.

"Ming'er, hurry up and take the vinegar to your mom. I've almost finished preparing all the vegetables. Your mom has been waiting and waiting for you, but she hasn't come. She's already started cooking." A deep male voice came from the kitchen.

As he slowly walked through the yard and turned towards the kitchen door, his eyes welled up with tears when he saw the two faces he remembered.

Those were my parents when they were young, parents I haven't seen in a long time.

My mother's surname is Liang, and her given name is Liang Zhiwan. My father's name is Wei Yewu.

His mother looked the same as he remembered, only younger. In fact, among her peers, his mother had always been the most dazzling one. Even more than a decade later, she still looked very young compared to her peers.

Because she was cooking, Liang Ma casually tied her long, flowing hair into a bun on her head. She had very fair skin and was tall and thin. Even though she was wearing a fitted black sweater with an apron over it, you could still tell that Liang Ma was deliberately maintaining a good figure.

Dad was sitting on a stool with a plate of shelled edamame beside him. Because Aunt Liang paid great attention to her appearance, the clothes she bought for Dad were always very stylish. The jacket he was wearing gave him a mature and charming look.

Perhaps hearing footsteps, Liang's mother turned around, her tone filled with surprise: "Why aren't you locked in your room playing on your phone today, but instead you've skipped dinner..."
