Upon seeing Ge'er, Liang Ma stopped speaking abruptly, then hesitated before asking, "Lin'er?"
At this moment, Wei's father also looked up and was startled when he saw Ge'er.
How could their eldest son have grown up so quickly in such a short time?
Ge Er quickly composed himself, smiled slightly, and said to the two, "Hello, Uncle and Aunt, I am Wei Nianpan."
As she spoke, Ge Er turned to Wei's father and said, "I don't know if Uncle knows me. My grandfather moved to Shanghai back then, and he brought my father back a few times before."
This isn't a person Ge Er made up; he actually existed. In his past life, Wei Nianpan's grandfather had an older brother who was very capable. He moved to Shanghai and only returned every few years, but he passed away early. After his death, the two families lost contact. It was only much later that they learned that the family had been in a car accident while traveling and had all died.
The only survivor at the time was the grandson who was studying at a university abroad, but he was later completely lost.
"You're Great-Grandpa's grandson?" Upon hearing Ge'er's words, Wei Yewu's face lit up with joy. He quickly got up and walked over to Ge'er, pulling him around for a few moments. "By the way, you're both from the 'Nian' generation, that's right. I just didn't expect you to have grown so much."
He didn't even doubt Ge'er's identity, because he looked so much like the Wei brothers, Wei Nianlin and Wei Nianming. Even though he knew for certain that he didn't have a son that old, he still sometimes wondered if he had lost a son back then.
Seeing Wei's father's reaction, Ge'er finally breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, the course of many things hadn't changed, otherwise he really wouldn't know how to explain it.
As Liang Zhiwan cooked the dishes, she looked at Ge Er with curiosity. She felt that her two sons, once they grew up, should resemble him by about seven or eight points.
"Didn't your dad and the others come over?" After a moment, Wei's father finally realized what was happening, looked outside the door, and asked.
Ger lowered his head, pretending to be sad: "Grandpa and the others all died in a car accident two years ago. Now... I'm the only one left in the family."
"Huh? How could this be?" Wei Yewu stared wide-eyed at Ge Er, his face full of shock.
Wei Yewu quickly realized his loss of composure. He forced himself to control his expression and glanced at Liang Zhiwan. The two of them saw the shock in each other's eyes.
"Um... have you had dinner yet?" Liang Zhiwan abruptly changed the subject, asking Ge Er.
At this point, Wei Yewu was at a loss for words.
Geer shook his head: "Not yet. I just happened to be here on business. I remembered what my grandfather had told me about our kinship, so I thought I'd come and look for it. I didn't expect to run into Wei Nianming, so he brought me here."
"Then let's have dinner together later. By the way, do you have a place to stay?" Wei Yewu finally came to his senses and asked Ge'er.
Gel continued shaking his head.
In an instant, Wei Yewu and Liang Zhiwan seemed to understand something, and their gazes towards Ge Er softened.
"Then, honey, take Wei Nianpan to the room where no one is staying. Let the child sleep at our house tonight," Liang Ma said softly, her eyes filled with sympathy as she looked at Ge'er.
Wei Yewu nodded and said to Ge Er, "Come with me."
Ge'er's purpose was to stay at home, so he did not refuse at all and obediently followed Wei Yewu into the building.
“This building was just started last year, and the other rooms upstairs haven’t been renovated yet. You might have to make do with staying here for one night.” Wei Yewu led Ge Er to the second floor, pointed to one of the rooms, and said to Ge Er, “Wait here for me, I’ll go down and get you some blankets.”
Ge Er nodded, and after Wei Yewu came downstairs, he took a careful look at the room.
This room looks like it was recently renovated. The walls are so white there isn't a single footprint, the floor tiles are so shiny they reflect light, and even the mattress on the bed still has its protective film on.
Apart from a new bed and a bedside table, the room contained only two small stools and no other decorations.
Soon, Wei Yewu came up carrying two new quilts.
While the two were making the bed, Wei Nianming almost asked something, but in the end he gave up. By the time the two finished tidying up the room, dinner was already ready.
Just like in his previous life, Ge Er helped his parents put their rice bowls on the table. Then, Liang's mother called out impatiently into one of the rooms, "Lin'er, are you going to eat or not? I've called you so many times already. Do I have to go and ask you?"
"Coming, coming." Wei Nianlin's voice came from one of the rooms.
After the door opened, Wei Nianlin ran out of the house.
“This is your distant cousin. Your two grandfathers were brothers, so…” Aunt Liang was introducing Ge’er to Wei Nianlin, but she didn’t notice that Wei Nianlin’s expression became increasingly strange after seeing Ge’er.
"It's you!" Wei Nianlin shouted, pointing at Ge Er and taking a step back.
"Why are you pointing at people like that? Don't be so rude." Liang Ma was startled by Wei Nianlin's shout. She looked up at him and scolded him, but seeing his expression, as if she had seen Ge Er before, she asked in confusion, "What, have you seen your cousin before?"
Gel suppressed a laugh and explained to Liang Ma, "It's like this, I just ran into Wei Nianlin while I was looking for a place, and I made a joke to him, but he was probably scared by me."
The group chatted and laughed as they ate, and the matter quickly passed. Only Wei Nianlin silently ate his rice, occasionally looking up at Ge Er with a strange look, but before Ge Er could turn his head to him, he would continue eating.
