Chapter Sixty-Five: You'll only have trouble dealing with this if you leave it to me!
Zeng Rong typed rapidly on the computer keyboard, humming a light and sweet song.
The internal phone rang, and she answered it without even looking at it: "Hello, Secretariat."
"It's me, Jiang Sui."
The voice on the other end of the phone was deep and tinged with unease, completely unlike the usually decisive and efficient General Manager Jiang.
Zeng Rong paused, almost typing "lost weight" instead of "received." She cleared her throat and feigned composure: "President Jiang, is there something you need?"
"Hmm." Jiang Sui paused for a moment. "Are you busy right now? I'd like to ask you... a personal question."
Asking for advice? Or is it a personal question?
Zeng Rong jumped up from her chair, flattered and bowing, "You flatter me! Mr. Jiang, you're too kind. Please let me know if you need anything..." But in her heart, she was in an uproar: The world has gone mad! Jiang Sui is actually going to "consult" her!
"Ten minutes later, at the coffee shop downstairs." Jiang Sui didn't waste any more words and hung up the phone.
Zeng Rong quickly pulled out a small mirror to fix her hair and touched up her lipstick. Hmm, she looked quite imposing now.
Everyone in the company is afraid of Jiang Sui, even Luo Muyang treats him with respect. This is a golden opportunity! She should show off her skills; it'll be enough for her to brag about in the company for a year.
In a corner of the coffee shop, Jiang Sui sat by the window with a cup of Americano in front of her.
Zeng Rong immediately put on airs upon sitting down. "President Jiang, may I ask you for advice on some problem? Is it work-related? Or... something else?"
Jiang Sui frowned as if organizing his thoughts, and after a long while he finally spoke: "It's about Luo Yan."
Sure enough, I knew there was some juicy gossip to come!
Zeng Rong inwardly cheered, but outwardly remained serious. "Oh? What's wrong with Yan Yan? Did she make you angry?"
“No.” Jiang Sui was a little confused. “We had a fight. She asked me if I really loved her and if I was with her because I felt safe around her.”
Zeng Rong raised an eyebrow: "So what was your answer?"
“I…” Jiang Sui was speechless, a hint of defeat on her face. “She left without answering.”
"My God!" Zeng Rong slammed his fist on the table and stood up. "President Jiang, this is just too suffocating! You argued with someone, didn't explain, and then left, adding fuel to the fire! Do you want to break up or not?"
Jiang Sui's face darkened further: "I came to you because I don't want to break up. You two have a good relationship, you know her. I want to know why she thinks this way, and what I can do to make her believe that I am sincere."
Seeing Jiang Sui, who was usually so composed, now looking like a helpless schoolchild, Zeng Rong suppressed a laugh and shook his head knowingly: "President Jiang, to solve the problem, you must first pass my soul-searching questions to see if you care about Yan Yan."
"Go ahead and ask."
"First, what are Yanyan's three favorite foods?"
"Winter melon and meatball soup, with no cilantro for the meatballs and no scallions for the soup; sweet and sour pork ribs, with lots of rock sugar and little vinegar; and the red bean paste cakes from that 'Bingo' shop in Xicheng District, you only eat the red bean paste and not the crust."
"Second, what is the thing that Yanyan hates the most?"
"I was accused of being an illegitimate child, I was wronged, and I worked overtime until midnight without eating."
"Third, what are Yanyan's daily little habits?"
"I stay in bed for ten minutes after my alarm goes off in the morning. I need to hug something to sleep soundly at night, including but not limited to a pillow, my cat, or myself. I like to eat tomato-flavored potato chips with iced cola while watching movies. I like to spin a pen when I'm working, and I get frustrated if I can't spin it."
Jiang Sui answered all three questions fluently and readily.
Zeng Rong secretly clicked her tongue in amazement. This wasn't just being indifferent; it was clearly ingrained in their very bones without them even realizing it. Their understanding of these details was something even she herself couldn't match.
"Okay, one last question, what is it about Yanyan that attracts you the most? Don't give me vague answers like 'she's pretty and has a good personality,' be specific."
"Which point..."
Jiang Sui was stumped by the question.
He remained silent for a long time, then revealed a rare look of confusion: "I don't know... I just feel that only she can make me feel at ease."
Zeng Rong looked at him and a knowing look appeared on his face.
"President Jiang, I understand where the problem lies! Others only talk the talk but don't walk the walk, while you only walk the walk but don't talk the walk. You're really at a disadvantage."
"say what?"
"Tell her you love her. Women are auditory creatures, so you need to express your love clearly to make her feel secure."
"Do I... have to say it?"
“I must tell you, and then I will teach you my ‘secret weapon’.”
"Can't you teach me the 'secret technique' now?"
"No, no, no!"
Zeng Rong narrowed his eyes, extended an index finger and shook it, "The time is not right."
Jiang Sui: "..."
He must be crazy to think of asking Zeng Rong for help.
Everyone in Feiyang knows that this Secretary Zeng usually spouts a lot of nonsense and is lucky if she can say half a sentence of substance. So he's just delivering a melon to her doorstep and being forced to watch her smug act.
This is even more upsetting.
In the office of the Culture and Tourism Bureau, Luo Yan was staring blankly at the computer screen, her fingers hovering over the keyboard, unable to type a single word for a long time.
Two days have passed since he stormed out after arguing with Jiang Sui that day.
He hasn't sent a single message or made a single phone call in the past two days; it's as if he's vanished into thin air.
She should be the one who's angry, not him.
"What's wrong with Sister Yan? She seems distracted."
Liu Su walked over with a cup of milk tea and placed it on her table. "Are you still thinking about that rumor from last time? Didn't we already clarify it?"
Luo Yan shook her head weakly, picked up the milk tea, took a sip, but couldn't taste anything.
Liu Su leaned close to her ear and said, "Aunt Zhao said she has some 'innovative dishes' that she's been researching for a long time, and she wants us to try them."
Luo Yan's heart skipped a beat; Zhao Hongmei's "innovative cuisine" had a disastrous precedent.
Last year's durian-flavored rice dumplings for the Dragon Boat Festival and the tomato-fried mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival were so sour and tangy... they were so addictive they could kill you if you tried them.
I've been feeling down these past few days. It's just some weird food, right? It won't kill me, so I'll just use it as a way to... distract myself.
As soon as the plate was placed down, a strange smell filled the air.
Liu Su's smile froze, Wang Qiushi's lips twitched, and he instinctively wanted to slip away. Zhou Jiaqi tactically pushed up his glasses to hide his embarrassment.
"Everyone, please have a taste, don't be shy!"
Zhao Hongmei greeted everyone warmly, picking up a spoon and serving a little to each person.
Liu Su picked up a piece of dragon fruit stir-fried with cured meat, chewed it a couple of times, and her face instantly changed. She forced herself not to spit it out and quickly picked up her water glass and took a big gulp: "The taste... is very special, with a lot of layers."
Wang Qiushi and Zhou Jiaqi also took a sip, and their reactions were exactly the same as Liu Su's: they forced smiles and silently drank the water.
Luo Yan absentmindedly picked up a piece of braised pork with cherry tomatoes and put it in her mouth. She chewed it twice, then routinely tasted each dish. Her expression remained completely unchanged, which was abnormally normal.
Seeing Luo Yan eating with relish, Zhao Hongmei quickly asked, "How is it? Is it alright?"
"Hmm, it's alright." Luo Yan replied casually, chewing habitually as if she had no psychological barriers to eating.
The other three were stunned, looking at her as if she were an alien.
Zhao Hongmei grabbed Luo Yan's hand: "My dear friend! From now on, when I cook a new dish, I'll invite you to try it first!"
Luo Yan stared blankly at Zhao Hongmei's excited expression, then looked at the other three with their lifeless expressions. Only then did she pull her sense of taste, which had been wandering off into her mind, back to reality. The strange taste in her mouth spread rapidly, and the sensation went straight to the top of her head. She almost died on the spot. She quickly grabbed a water glass and gulped down several mouthfuls before she could barely recover.
God, please accept all these "new dishes," this time it's for real!
As soon as Luo Yan stepped out of the company gate after get off work in the afternoon, she received a call from Luo Muyang.
"Yanyan, I have good news for you!"
Luo Yan remained completely unmoved. "Xu Jingfei replied with an extra word?"
"Your mom finally dumped that pretty boy!"
Luo Muyang's voice rose eight octaves, even more excited than when Feiyang's stock price hit its daily limit.
"Ms. Xu and He Jun broke up? When?"
“This morning, I just received the news that her beauty salon is going to split up. This is a golden opportunity, and I want to invest! This way, I can help her and see her often. This is the most significant milestone on our road to reconciliation!”
"Have a happy reconciliation, goodbye."
Luo Yan was too lazy to pay attention.
For so many years, Luo Muyang's "overlap" has been nothing more than a cut on Pinduoduo, always just 0.01 short, always infinitely close, and never able to withdraw the money. She's become numb to it all.
"Yanyan, wait..."
Luo Muyang's tone became humble: "Dad has a favor to ask of you. Could you talk to your mother and ask me to invest? In my life, besides making Feiyang bigger and stronger, my only wish is to reunite with your mother. Help Dad, and I'll give you anything you want right now..."
"Stop! No car, no house, no handbag! And definitely no money transfers!"
Luo Yan was afraid that Luo Muyang would transfer another few hundred thousand in his desperation. He was willing to do anything for Xu Jingfei, but she, his daughter who was a free gift with a phone top-up, couldn't handle it.
On second thought, Luo Muyang, though eccentric, was a shrewd businessman and completely devoted to Xu Jingfei. Investing in him might not be a bad thing, so she said, "Okay, but I can't guarantee it will work out."
After hanging up the phone, Luo Yan took a taxi straight to the beauty salon. As soon as she got out of the car, she saw He Jun pleading through the glass door, his eyes brimming with tears: "Feifei, I was wrong. I didn't mean to hide the debt. I was afraid you would leave me if you found out! Please give me another chance, okay? I will work hard to pay off the debt and treat you well..."
Xu Jingfei's voice was icy: "Are you done performing? If you are, hurry up and leave, or do you want me to call security to ask you to leave?"
Luo Yan watched the show with a cold eye, thinking to herself, He Jun still doesn't understand Xu Jingfei. This woman's ruthlessness is beyond his imagination. Luo Muyang has been trying to win her over for more than 20 years with his sincere heart, but he thinks he can move her with just a few crocodile tears?
A clown.
