Chapter 110 Hunting Him is Wrong
Chang Xile watched his body being carried into the ambulance, and he couldn't describe what he felt.
The ambulance can only be accompanied by one person, and since it was Ren Qing who contacted 120, she volunteered to go. Fang Xinai, still unsure of the situation, said with worry in her eyes, "I'll take a taxi to the hospital and contact you later."
Chang Xile got into the car before the door closed. She huddled in a corner and watched the emergency personnel perform first aid on her in an orderly manner in the chaos.
I don’t know if it was because his soul was following him nearby, but after a series of rescue measures, Chang Xile’s body showed faint signs of life.
Ren Qing sat off to the side, unable to make out the various readings displayed on the sophisticated instrument. She only knew the heart rate monitor was no longer a straight line. She breathed a sigh of relief and opened her phone. The school was aware of Chang Xile's situation, and the counselor was currently contacting Ren Qing to inquire about the situation. After a moment's hesitation, she clicked on a green dialog box.
Chang Xile had no intention of peeking at Ren Qing's chat history, but Ren Qing's voice at that moment reached her ears clearly. Chang Xile looked up and around; no one in the car responded to Ren Qing's voice. Ren Qing still didn't open her mouth to speak, as if this was what she was thinking.
[Sanshuiqing, are you still with me? If yes, please use the odd number, if no, please use the even number.]
Chang Xile finally understood who Ren Qing had been communicating with. The ambulance wasn't spacious, and it was clear the shadowy figure hadn't caught up. Chang Xile sat down next to Ren Qing and reached out to flip the spinning dice to an even number.
Ren Qing was stunned.
This question is actually just a useless polite question, because if the person you are talking to is not there, there is no way to roll the dice.
But Ren Qing threw it four or five times in a row, and the result was the same.
Chang Xile’s current situation is most likely related to the black shadow beside Ren Qing, but she is in no condition to communicate with a living person.
Thinking of this, she looked around again, but didn't see Anping.
Strange, could it be that it was stopped outside the ambulance because it was a cat?
Chang Xile sighed and decided to ask for advice from the most experienced ghost she knew.
She raised her wrist and said "Hello" twice: "Xiao Xie, Xiao Xie, are you free? Urgent."
After two seconds, her soul-catching rope lit up with a faint red light: "I'm busy. Please don't call me unless it's business."
She was so cold and indifferent. Chang Xile curled her lips and thought to herself, isn't this just a business issue? "I suspect the soul-catching rope you gave me is broken."
"How is that possible?" Xie Wuya's voice was clearer this time, as if he was speaking seriously to his wrist. "You and I share the same soul-binding rope. I'm using it, and it's not broken."
"But I encountered a ghost today, and the Soul-Catching Rope had no effect on it," Chang Xile added, "and I can't return to my body."
The latter question sounded much more serious. Xie Wuya glanced at the dozen or so souls tied behind him, sighed, and asked, "Where are you now?"
"In the ambulance." Chang Xile glanced out the window and could already see the address of the hospital they were heading to. "Go to Blue Mountain Hospital immediately."
Xie Wuya still held up his right wrist. He heard the sirens of an approaching ambulance in the distance and replied, "Wait."
As soon as the ambulance arrived, everyone rushed Chang Xile to the hospital's emergency room. After getting out of the car, Chang Xile ran all the way, stopping only at the door of the emergency room.
Because she saw An Ping, Xie Wuya... and about a dozen ghosts behind him who were blocked by soul-catching ropes.
"You came pretty quickly..." Chang Xile laughed twice and greeted them. Now he believed that the soul-catching rope given by Xie Wuya was fine.
Anping had turned back into his young appearance at this time. He looked at Chang Xile, but did not speak.
"What is your relationship with the patient?" the doctor asked routinely.
Ren Qing replied: "College roommate."
Anping said to the doctor, "Boyfriend."
Upon hearing this, Xie Wuya glanced at Chang Xile.
Chang Xile didn't think it was a big deal. She had something more important to ask Xie Wuya: "Among the people you've led in the past, have you ever seen anyone unable to return to their bodies?"
If it is true as Anping said, that the body activated the protective mechanism because of the invasion of ghosts, then we must know how long the cooling time is. We can't really "die" for a month.
"I've only brought you, the Living Impermanence," Xie Wuya said. "I've seen many cases of people being possessed by ghosts, but what you just said is unheard of." Usually, if an ownerless body has no one to protect it, it's not difficult for a ghost to possess it. Common sense does not have the protective mechanism that Chang Xile mentioned.
"Huh?" Chang Xile was completely clueless about any of this, like feeling completely lost in the technical class in the computer lab in high school, staring at a string of code. She couldn't understand why her own code kept failing while her deskmate breezed through the assignments. So, she relentlessly consigned technology to the trash can after her high school 7-choose-3 exam.
This was getting off topic. In short, she had no way of distinguishing between An Ping and Xie Wuya's respective theories, and didn't know who was right or wrong. She continued, "Then do you know how long it would take for a body to be separated from its soul before something bad happened?"
"It depends on the individual and how long your body can hold on. I remember that medical technology is quite advanced now, so it should not be a problem to maintain the vital signs of a vegetative patient." Xie Wuya comforted her.
Is this really a comfort? Chang Xile laughed dryly twice, looked at the dozen or so souls that Xie Wuya brought, and asked him, "Are you taking them to the underworld to be reborn?"
"Yes." Xie Wuya tightened the soul-grabbing rope, signaling the ghost at the end of the team who was about to slip away while Wuchang was talking to him to be quiet. "Didn't you say that the soul-grabbing rope I gave you is useless? Come and try it?"
An Ping and Ren Qing stood outside the emergency room, waiting. He leaned against the wall, his arms folded as he watched Chang Xile, who was about to use the soul-snatching rope, silently pondering something. He had heard the conversation between the two, but because there were strangers present, he couldn't say anything.
Instead, Ren Qing was the first to ask him, "The doll in your hand..."
"This?" Anping lowered his head and raised his hand to show her the doll in his hand. "I picked it up on the road."
"This is my doll, give it back to me." Ren Qing frowned and stretched out her hand to him. She clearly remembered that she had left Sanshuiqing in the dormitory.
"How do you prove that this is your doll?" Anping withdrew his hand and asked her.
"You can look at the label on the back of his lapel. It says Sanshuiqing. Give it back to me." Ren Qing was obviously a little anxious after he couldn't get Sanshuiqing.
After Anping checked it as she said, he handed Sanshuiqing to her and asked, "What's your name for the baby?"
"So what?" Ren checked Sanshuiqing's baby's physical condition and said unhappily.
"A name is the shortest spell." An Ping's tone was soft, but it was clearly audible, and even the two impermanents chatting nearby noticed it. "Everything has a spirit. Giving it a name is equivalent to acknowledging its existence."
"It just exists." Ren Qing covered San Shuiqing's ears and repeated softly, "It just exists."
The problem is that Ren Qing sincerely believes in its existence and is communicating with it.
Chang Xile met Anping's gaze, knowing he was reminding her. An answer was about to emerge.
"Here." Xie Wuya suddenly placed a roster in front of Chang Xile, blocking An Ping's view. "I haven't given you any systematic training before. Do you know what we Wuchang people must do first before we go on a mission?"
Chang Xile took the stack of names and looked through them. She was keenly aware that the people in the stack all died today. After comparing the number of names on the list with the number of ghosts following Xie Wuya, she tried to answer, "Take the order?"
That sounds a bit weird.
Adhering to the concept of encouraging education, Xie Wuya smiled slightly and said, "That's about right."
"Not everything in the Three Realms can enter samsara. Who dies and when they are reborn is clearly recorded in the Book of Life and Death."
"Then what can't enter the cycle of reincarnation?" Chang Xile asked.
"First of all, the Three Realms are roughly divided into eight categories: gods, demons, immortals, monsters, humans, beasts, ghosts and spirits. You said before that the soul-catching rope is useless, which means that the things you encountered did not enter the reincarnation of the Three Realms. Since they did not appear in the Book of Life and Death, they are not under the jurisdiction of the underworld." Xie Wuya said the last sentence quietly in Chang Xile's ear, as if he was afraid of being heard.
Chang Xile immediately understood 70% of what she was saying. In other words, the dark figure she encountered in the dormitory was neither human, beast, demon, nor ghost, and was not under the jurisdiction of the underworld.
To this day, she hasn't even seen the real thing.
Although the two Wuchang tried their best to be inconspicuous, their exchange was quite eye-catching to Anping. His ears twitched slightly, and he asked Ren Qing, "How do you usually communicate with your Sanshuiqing?"
He skipped the question of "Is there communication?" and directly asked "How to communicate?" Ren Qing subconsciously followed this line of thought: "Have you heard of turtle soup?"
Anping nodded, but looked at Chang Xile - he had never heard of it.
As soon as Chang Xile met his gaze, she immediately started to explain to Anping - in short, it was an interactive game in which the questioner asked closed questions, the answerer answered yes or no, and the truth of the matter was gradually revealed.
Ren Qing continued, “I ask questions and he answers me by rolling the dice – an odd number means yes and an even number means no.”
She finished her story, glanced at the silent Anping—who was actually listening intently to Chang Xile explaining the rules of the game—and suddenly came to her senses, thinking: Why am I telling him all this? Anyway, no one would believe this kind of thing.
Anping then asked, "Can you show it to me?"
Ren Qing finally came to her senses and felt something was wrong. She glanced at the light on in the emergency room and asked, "Xi Le's condition is critical right now. Aren't you worried at all?" She even had the leisure to ask her roommate some irrelevant questions.
An Ping glanced at Chang Xile and smiled slightly. "I'm worried. But we're outside now, and there's nothing else to do, right?"
This excuse was lame. Ren Qing pondered for a moment and felt that Chang Xile's boyfriend was not very reliable. She changed her mind and decided to just check on Xile.
She pulled out her phone and began to demonstrate.
Anping winked at Chang Xile and turned his face away.
"Shall we go first?" Chang Xile asked softly.
Anping's expression became a little complicated.
Xie Wuya met the man's slightly aggressive gaze and knew that he just wanted this annoying guy to stay away.
Xie Wuya suddenly felt malicious and called Chang Xile, saying, "Let's go."
Chang Xile lost the turtle soup game of "yes" or "no" completely. She hid in the corner of the long corridor and continued to observe the two of them.
Ren Qingze had already begun her presentation. She pulled out her phone and asked again if Sanshui Qing was there. Meanwhile, Anping deliberately concealed her presence—for cats, this was a hunting instinct, an innate awareness of prey.
Soon, he clearly saw a dark figure emerge from the doll in Ren Qing's hand. A hand reached over the screen and moved the dice, causing it to slowly stop at the number one.
At this moment, Anping suddenly approached Ren Qing.
This action startled her, and she quickly took a few steps back and asked, "What are you doing?"
Anping stared intently at the black shadow that was struggling after being stepped on by him. He raised his head, his pupils slightly dilated and shaking due to the excitement of hunting, which made people subconsciously feel threatened.
"You demonstrated very well, I understand it completely." He smiled gentlemanly, looked behind Ren Qing, and then his smile disappeared.
Chang Xile was smiling at the man, and the two were talking, but no one knew what they were talking about.
What was going on? It was so interesting that she couldn't even take care of herself.
Looking at An Ping's focused and lonely expression that was a little scary, Ren Qing made up his mind - he must remind Xile that something was wrong with her boyfriend.
