Chapter 21 Believe in the people around you and be careful
"The Book of Life and Death that was erased by Sun Wukong?" Yang Guisi noticed Chang Xile's gaze, took the book and opened it to look through it.
"I don't know." Chang Xile shook her head. She felt that her guess was ridiculous. "Why would I think about this? I don't believe in this kind of thing at all."
As soon as he said this, seeing the different expressions on the faces of the three people in front of him, Chang Xile realized that he was getting a little emotional: "I'm going to go out and calm down."
She slowly walked down the steps of the dormitory building, not knowing where to go.
"Xi Le." Yang Guisi's voice came from behind. She had just chased out and now walked forward with the key in hand. She said to Chang Xi Le, "Let's talk."
There were always people everywhere at Yamashiro University. Even the seemingly quiet woods were filled with couples. It was really hard to find a place where you could talk without being overheard.
"If you don't mind, why don't you come to my rented house?" Although Yang Guisi had moved back into the school dormitory, she hadn't given up her off-campus rental. She would still livestream from here when necessary.
After Chang Xile sat down on the sofa in the living room, Yang Guisi handed her a cup of tea. She took it and said thank you softly.
"You always say that you don't believe in these things, right?" Yang Guisi went straight to the point.
Chang Xile nodded: "That's right, there is no such thing in the world..."
"Then why are you afraid?" Yang Guisi interrupted her.
"I..." Chang Xile opened his mouth and found that he could not answer for a moment.
"How can a person be afraid of something they don't believe in, something that doesn't exist?" Yang Guisi pointed out. "You're afraid because you feel it. And this perception contradicts what you've always believed, so you feel conflicted."
Indeed, Chang Xile originally believed that all strange things could be explained by science. But she couldn't explain the things that had happened in the past month or two, which was why she was more afraid than ever before.
"Actually, there's no need to be afraid." Yang Guisi held Chang Xile's shoulders and turned her body toward the window. "Look out the window and tell me the farthest thing you can see."
Chang Xile was baffled by this request, but she obeyed obediently. She observed for a long time with her eyes open before answering Yang Guisi, "There's a temple on the farthest mountain."
"Okay." Yang Guisi leaned back on the sofa, rummaged through the paper bag beside him, and then took out a pair of binoculars and handed it to her. "Now look at it again, and then answer me again."
Chang Xile took the telescope and looked for a while before she said carefully, "I saw a bird perched on the treetop."
"You need a telescope to see details like this," Yang Guisi said, taking the telescope and patiently coaxing her. "But some people with excellent eyesight can see details you couldn't see with their naked eyes."
Chang Xile nodded.
"Everyone has different abilities. Just because you can't see or hear doesn't mean they don't exist. For some people, there really aren't any monsters in this world because they can't perceive them. But for those with more acute senses, these things do exist." Yang Guisi looked out the window, his eyes warmer. "This isn't a scary thing. For me, if people simply vanish into nothingness after death, that would be despairing."
"Do those... really exist?" Chang Xile's voice was soft. He thought of the man in black whose body was penetrated by the rain, the weasel pretending to be a human, the lost boy who died, and... the young Xu Wanjia. "Can the dead exist in another form?"
"Yes." Yang Guisi turned his head and looked into her eyes seriously, his voice gentle, "I'm very powerful, do you believe me?"
"But my aunt is also very powerful." Chang Xile pouted, like a pitiful child listening to a ghost story. "She told me with absolute certainty that there are no demons or monsters in the world."
"I don't know who your aunt is," Yang Guisi said proudly, "but in this world, my master is the most powerful. The first time I caught a monster was with her."
Chang Xile didn't argue with Yang Guisi about this. She sat cross-legged, facing the window, and pondered for a long time. She wanted to try to believe in something beyond her cognition. Or perhaps, she had always believed, but she had only deceived herself into thinking that none of it existed.
However, if the dead can really exist in the world in another form, it doesn’t seem to be such a bad thing?
Yang Guisi sensed that Chang Xile's uneasy mood had suddenly calmed down. She observed Chang Xile meditating quietly and said softly, "Think about it carefully. I'm going to go live."
Chang Xile said nothing, but raised his hand and waved. Yang Guisi stood up and went to the study to turn on the computer.
"Long time no see." After Yang Guisi put on her mask, she looked even more aloof and reserved in front of the camera, which reminded people of her fierce face. If she didn't make any expression, she would appear very unapproachable.
Compared to her, the comments were much more enthusiastic. Because the live broadcast started suddenly, the number of people in Gui Si's live broadcast room was not too large at the moment, but it was still growing at a very fast rate.
"These past few days? I've been dealing with some personal matters." Yang Guisi chatted with the comments here and there, occasionally connecting with fans. However, most of the people who contacted her now didn't really make a splash, and were basically just misunderstandings.
"That's the last one." Yang Guisi yawned. Considering that Chang Xile was still at home, he didn't plan to spend too much time on the live broadcast.
The screen flashed, and a girl with a bun appeared. She was holding a doll, sitting cross-legged in front of the screen, and the background seemed to be a bedroom bed.
"Onii-sama? Wow, I'm connected to Onii-sama!" The fan's ID is Xiaoxue. She didn't expect that she could really connect to the connection. She was so happy that she forgot what to say for a moment.
"You just mentioned in the comment that you've encountered something strange recently." Yang Guisi got straight to the point. "Tell me about it."
"Oh, that's right. I've been feeling like someone is watching me lately." Xiaoxue put away her surprise and said seriously.
To be fair, she is very beautiful, and her almond-shaped eyes blink with great energy.
The comments flashed across the screen from time to time, such as "If I see you on the street, I will look at you a few more times, you are so beautiful." "The turning rate is 300%, hahaha." "Better be alert, are you being followed by a bad guy?"
Xiaoxue shook her head. "I don't feel this way when I'm out, but as soon as I get home and I'm alone, this feeling of being watched becomes especially strong."
"And I checked very carefully, and I'm really the only one at home. My house is very small, there's no room for anyone to hide."
Chang Xile was originally leaning on the sofa, thinking about life. When she came to her senses, she was already listening intently to the sounds coming from the study. When she heard this, she couldn't help but shudder because she felt it was a bit scary.
The barrage of comments discussed the possibilities of this situation.
"Actually, if it's a ghost, it's fine. It won't hurt to let it take a look." This feeling of being watched didn't really affect Xiaoxue's life. "I'm just afraid it's a criminal."
Chang Xile nodded. Sometimes, people are much scarier than ghosts.
As usual, Yang Guisi asked for Xiaoxue's address. She closed her eyes and thought for a long time. Everyone was used to it and just waited for her to tell the result as if she was assisted by God.
However, five minutes later, Yang Guisi opened his eyes and said, "I don't know."
This was the first time Yang Guisi said she didn't know during a live broadcast. She replied cautiously: "I didn't see any ghosts or other people."
Xiaoxue breathed a sigh of relief, feeling relieved. "It's okay then. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. I'm relieved now that you've said that, Guisi. Thank you so much!"
Some congratulatory words like "I'm glad you're okay" flashed across the comments, but Yang Guisi didn't look relaxed.
After the call was disconnected, Yang Guisi ended the live broadcast without saying a word. Then, for the first time ever, she followed the fan back and sent him a private message.
Chang Xile wanted to ask Yang Guisi what was going on, but before she could say anything, she was interrupted by the vibrating phone in her arms.
She picked up her cell phone, and for the first time ever, the word "Anping" was flashing on it.
It was strange. When had Anping ever called her? Chang Xile pressed the answer button and put the phone to her ear: "Hello, what's going on?"
"Where are you?" The voice on the phone was breathing heavily, as if he had just run vigorously.
"At a friend's house. Don't worry, tell me what's going on." Chang Xile had never seen Anping so anxious before, so she tried to comfort him, "Is there a follow-up to yesterday's incident with the kitten?"
"Go downstairs." Anping did not answer her question, but just said two words concisely.
"What..." Before Chang Xile could react, he felt a shadow covering him and someone was standing behind the sofa.
At the same time, people on both sides said something.
"Watch out for your roommates."
"Who are you talking to on the phone?"
Chang Xile blinked, feeling that the amount of information seemed a bit too much, and for a moment he didn't know who to answer first.
She raised her head and looked up at Yang Guisi from this angle. She always felt that the smile on the corner of her lips was full of meaning. She wondered if she had heard what was said on the phone just now?
"Come downstairs, I'll wait for you downstairs." Anping didn't explain any more. He took a deep breath and said patiently to Chang Xile.
Chang Xile hung up the phone. Although she felt puzzled, she still stood up and said to Yang Guisi, "My boyfriend has something to do. I'll go find him first. Thank you for today."
Yang Guisi nodded and said meaningfully, "There's something I didn't tell you yesterday."
Chang Xile thought about it and thought, "Are you referring to the message you retracted yesterday?"
"Yes." Yang Guisi walked Chang Xile to the door and opened it for her.
Yang Guisi leaned against the door frame, her smile undiminished. "Even though it might sound like I'm trying to sow discord, I still want to say this: be careful with your boyfriend."
It's the same sentence again.
Chang Xile was puzzled: "Why?"
Yang Guisi shook her head and uttered her second sentence of the day, "I don't know."
“It’s just a hunch,” she said, laughing. “Like, how did he know you were in this building?”
"However, considering that we have only known each other for a short time, it's up to you to trust anyone. As I said, I won't interfere too much in other people's affairs." Yang Guisi shrugged, said goodbye to Chang Xile, and closed the door.
Chang Xile walked downstairs, lost in thought. Through the second-floor window, she saw Anping, wearing a blue shirt, facing the apartment door. He rested his hands on his knees, his chest still rising and falling as he breathed steadily.
He stared at the door with burning eyes, and it was obvious who he was waiting for.
However, Chang Xile seemed hesitant as he went downstairs.
Yes, Anping.
How did you know I was in this building?
