"Taking the kid out for a walk? Where's Lin Gu?"
Zhou Siyu stood up and poked the child's chubby cheeks. The child smelled so sweet and milky, just like the fried milk-flavored steamed buns from the cafeteria.
"He's gone on a mission."
Yu Zhen couldn't hide his worry, while Zhou Siyu paused for a few seconds before reverting to her indifferent demeanor.
"Yu Wei should have gone too." Yu Zhen asked in a low voice, "Aren't you worried?"
"Why should I worry about him?" Zhou Siyu rubbed the little white dog's head: "The strongest Alpha in the league, someone who doesn't even make a sound when shot, what could possibly happen to him?"
Even so, Zhou Siyu still felt a little uneasy. He irritably rubbed the dog's head, left with a "I'm leaving" and strode away with the milk-scented steamed bun in his arms.
He left without saying goodbye or a word, treating Yu Wei like he didn't exist. Why should he worry about him?
"Hey, your dad doesn't want you anymore." Zhou Siyu poked the head of the milk-flavored steamed bun and threatened, "If you don't behave, I won't want you either."
"Woof woof!"
The milk-scented steamed bun cried out twice, then, with tears welling up in its eyes, it nestled against his arm and whimpered.
"Cry, cry, all you do is cry." Zhou Siyu was annoyed and irritably rubbed the dog's head: "If you cry again, I'll turn you into dog meat hot pot."
"Waaaaah~"
The milk-scented steamed bun hummed a few times, then wisely kept quiet.
Zhou Siyu circled around a few more times before carrying the dog home. As soon as she sat down, her communicator vibrated.
"Oh, what a rare guest! Young Master Zhou, weren't you going to check on the mine? What brings you to contact me?"
Zhou Siyu lay on her side on the sofa, propping her forehead up with one hand, and lazily looked at Zhou Sijue.
"Where is your house safe? Give me an address."
Zhou Sijue had dark circles under his eyes, stubble, and a listless expression.
"Oh, being chased by a ghost?" Zhou Siyu raised an eyebrow and yawned. "I never thought that Young Master Zhou would ask me for help one day. I am truly flattered."
"Stop being silly, just tell me if you'll help or not." Zhou Sijue sighed. "If it weren't so unsafe outside, I wouldn't have come to you."
The story begins a month ago when one of the mines in Shibaxing collapsed, killing many people.
Just recently, Zhou Sijue transferred funds to a newly opened mine. Before the compensation was paid, a major strike broke out at the mine. In addition, the instigation of the rebels caused the riot to escalate into a rebellion.
As the de facto controller of the mine, Zhou Sijue naturally became the target of everyone's hatred, with people constantly appearing to take his head. What was most deadly was that these people were like ghosts, appearing from time to time no matter where he hid.
"I have a suggestion, though it's not perfect," Zhou Siyu said lazily while petting the dog. "Go to the interstellar police station and apply for personal protection, or apply to the military command."
"Your suggestion is not only immature, it hasn't even sprouted yet." Zhou Sijue pinched the bridge of her nose. "First of all, I'm not a police officer's family member, and secondly, I'm not a high-ranking military officer's family member. Under what pretext do you think I can apply?"
“I won’t be in the family compound next week, so you can come and stay here.” Zhou Siyu stretched. “I’ll let the security guard know in advance. I left my ID card with Yu Wei’s cousin downstairs. You can ask him for it.”
The system's control over him has been reduced from requiring him to go to a designated location every night to once a week. Coincidentally, he's going to the Ninth Star next week to discuss several projects, so he only needs to come back here for a while on the weekend to appease the system.
"Thanks, I owe you a favor."
"Alright, it's not like it's the first time you've owed me a favor, and I haven't seen you pay it back yet."
Zhou Siyu hung up the communicator. To be honest, although Zhou Qi was not good to him, his siblings Zhou Sijue and Zhou Siyun were quite nice to him.
After cracking sunflower seeds for a while, Zhou Siyu habitually reached for the water beside her, but after groping around for a while without finding anything, she realized that Yu Wei was not home today.
He went to the kitchen, picked up the kettle, and poured water for a long time but couldn't get a single drop of hot water. Zhou Siyu clicked his tongue in surprise; he had forgotten again that Yu Wei wasn't home today.
Holding the water and looking at the empty house, Zhou Siyu frowned. She had never realized the house was so big before.
Besides, when he lived alone in a villa of four or five hundred square meters, he didn't feel that the house was empty.
After thinking for a long time, Zhou Siyu suddenly realized a terrible fact: he seemed to have gotten used to the presence of another person and had begun to depend on him.
Zhou Siyu took a bottle of mineral water from the refrigerator and drank it all in one gulp. He had to move away from here as soon as possible and return to his former life.
He doesn't need anyone's protection, nor does he need to depend on anyone, whether mentally or physically. He can never become a parasitic plant that depends on others.
"Woof woof..."
Milk-scented Bun jumped off the sofa, ran to Zhou Siyu's feet, rubbed against him, bit his trouser leg, pulled him back onto the sofa, jumped into Zhou Siyu's arms, and snored as he fell asleep.
Zhou Siyu frowned. Yu Wei hadn't returned yet. What if the little thing starved to death after he left? Even if it could be left at Yu Zhen's house, there was no guarantee that Yu Zhen's rabbits wouldn't bully it.
After all, it only looks round and plump, but it doesn't actually have much meat on it. If that fat rabbit kicks it, it will fly far away.
Forget it, he can take it with him. It's just a dog; he can afford to keep it.
"Knock knock knock..."
There was a knock on the door. Zhou Siyu put down the dog and opened the door, looking at Yu Zhen in the doorway with a puzzled expression.
"Um... it's thundering, can I stay at your place tonight?" Yu Zhen blinked her big, watery eyes and pitifully held up her finger: "Just one night..."
"Come in."
Zhou Siyu stepped aside. Yu Zhen had always been good to him, and since they lived upstairs and downstairs, it was only right that he help her out.
"Go sleep in your room, it's soundproof there." Zhou Siyu brought out a blanket and spread it on the sofa. "I'll sleep in the living room."
