Chapter 12 Crisis.
After the zombies blocking their way were dealt with, the convoy's vehicles continued driving for a while. They stopped to rest only when they reached a relatively safe and spacious area.
The road here is flanked by woods on both sides, with only one main road in the middle. According to the route, they will probably have to drive for almost another hour to reach the next town.
The dense forest held countless unknown dangers; after all, this was the apocalypse, and all sorts of mutated animals and plants could exist. Therefore, Mo Xiu did not intend to lead these people deeper into the forest.
He planned to let the team rest here for half an hour, eat something, and take care of some physiological needs before continuing their journey.
Mo Xiu took out the food she had prepared beforehand and fed it to Mo Qi. After the two of them had eaten their fill, they got out of the car with the man to get some fresh air.
After asking the other party and seeing that Mo Qi didn't seem to need to relieve himself, he told him to wait where he was and hurriedly went into the woods to relieve himself.
However, Mo Xiu's brief departure gave others an opportunity to take advantage of the situation.
Xi Wenlin's attention was always on Mo Xiu and Mo Qi. Seeing that Mo Xiu seemed to have gone to relieve herself, and that the surrounding area was a dense forest that looked dangerous, he had another bad idea.
Everyone else in the group was busy with their own things, and no one paid much attention to Mo Qi, who was leaning against the car.
Xi Wenlin seized the opportunity and walked towards the man, then coaxed him, "Mo Qi, I have some really delicious stuff here. Do you want to come with me? I'll get it for you."
Hearing this, Mo Qi rolled her eyes inwardly. This guy really thinks she's an idiot?
If someone claims something is particularly delicious, it's obvious they're up to no good.
So Mo Qi ignored Xi Wenlin and leaned against the car door, quietly waiting for Mo Xiu to return.
Seeing that the man wasn't responding to his advances, Xi Wenlin gritted his teeth. He hadn't expected that a simpleton would be so difficult to deal with. However, since the other person wasn't a normal person, it seemed he no longer needed to pretend to be kind.
After cautiously scanning the area, they noticed that no one in the group seemed to be looking at them, and Mo Qi was positioned behind the SUV, essentially in a blind spot.
He quickly ran over, grabbed Mo Qi's arm, and tried to pull him away.
He tried to pull, but couldn't budge it. This idiot on the other side wasn't cooperating at all; he just stood there like a wooden stake.
Xi Wenlin was furious. Knowing that time was limited, he could only seize the opportunity to try to lift the person up.
But halfway through carrying it, he almost collapsed to his knees from the pressure.
What's wrong with this idiot? Why is he so heavy?! Did he eat a weight?
It took Xi Wenlin a great deal of effort to drag Mo Qi away, pulling and carrying him into the forest.
Xi Wenlin's thinking was correct; he felt that the dense forests on both sides of the road looked very dangerous.
Once this person is dragged deep into the dense forest, given Mo Qi's immobility and poor mental capacity, it would be easy to abandon him.
Even if Mo Xiu realizes what's happening and goes looking for him, he might not be able to find him. He might even think that this fool just wandered off and got lost.
Even if we find him later, so what? This person has trouble speaking; does he really think he was the one who took him into the forest and abandoned him?
Who would believe a fool!
To achieve his goal, Xi Wenlin went all out, exerting every ounce of his strength, and carrying Mo Qi with him the whole way.
After finding a relatively satisfactory secluded spot, Xi Wenlin was so exhausted he almost collapsed. He squatted down next to Mo Qi, drenched in sweat, completely drained.
He grumbled inwardly that this fool had only added to his troubles at the very end.
Carrying such a heavy thing, he was almost exhausted along the way!
Xi Wenlin had already taken a risk; if he went any deeper, he was afraid he wouldn't remember the way back. So he wiped the sweat from his brow, rubbed his aching shoulders, and prepared to leave.
After walking only a few steps, he heard some noises not far away. Xi Wenlin was startled, thinking that someone had discovered him and was following him.
Upon closer inspection, they realized it was a slowly moving zombie. It must have smelled the presence of living people and was heading in their direction.
In such a desolate place, there is actually a zombie left behind.
Xi Wenlin didn't know if he was incredibly lucky or Mo Qi was incredibly unlucky. Now that he had left the person here, he could finally relax a bit.
So Xi Wenlin ran away as fast as he could, leaving Mo Qi alone in the same spot.
Upon seeing this, a cold glint flashed in Mo Qi's eyes.
This person actually took advantage of Mo Xiu's absence to do something underhanded. He'll remember this grudge!
In fact, when Xi Wenlin first came to find him, he had already guessed the other party's intentions.
Unfortunately, he had difficulty controlling his body, and his divine sense was too depleted from the recent exertion, so he was forced to be brought here by this guy.
He had encountered similar dangers before in the cultivation world.
As the ugly zombie approached him step by step, and he smelled the foul stench of decay emanating from it, Mo Qi felt utterly disgusted.
That guy named Xi Wenlin is really too naive to think that one zombie can deal with him.
After the zombie got within a certain range of him, Mo Qi remotely drained the demonic energy from its body.
Without the support of demonic energy, the zombie quickly stopped moving, collapsed to the ground, and became a completely immobile corpse.
However, Mo Qi's dantian was already filled with demonic energy. Absorbing another one now would make him feel quite uncomfortable.
He sighed helplessly to himself; this feeling of being completely filled with demonic energy wasn't very comfortable either.
In general, it's different from overeating, because absorbing too much demonic energy at once will make the demonic cultivator feel full in all seven meridians and eight channels, and may even give them a feeling that their body is about to burst.
Fortunately, Mo Qi can still barely accept the current situation.
It wasn't impossible for him to move back little by little on his own, but he was more confident that Mo Xiu would never abandon him like this.
Even if it's a little later, he'll definitely find me; Mo Qi had an inexplicable confidence in that.
Too lazy to put in much effort, Mo Qi simply stayed where he was and slowly refined the demonic energy in his body.
But soon, he sensed an unusual aura approaching him.
Could it be that besides this zombie, there are other dangerous things lurking here?
Before he could even make out what was happening, he saw several green vines wrapping around him. The vines were all very thick, each one as thick as half his arm.
These vines were previously hidden in the dense jungle; if he hadn't had such keen senses, he probably would have been entangled before he discovered them.
Unfortunately, it's too strenuous for him to move his body now, and he can't use his spiritual sense either. What can he do?
Without a doubt, this must be the mutated plant that Mo Xiu mentioned. Judging from its condition, its true form is probably underground.
It's true what they say, when you're down on your luck, even drinking cold water can cause problems. After dealing with the zombies, mutated plants have appeared. This series of events has given Mo Qi a real headache.
The mutated plant didn't contain any demonic energy that he could absorb to stop the other party's actions, but he knew very well that the mutated plant didn't attack zombies.
Zombies are dead to mutated plants, so they target humans and mutated animals, killing them to use as nutrients.
Having figured this out, Mo Qi released some of the demonic energy stored in his body to cover his entire body, hoping that the mutated plant would mistake him for a zombie and not attack him.
But the plant seemed quite clever. Aside from initial confusion and a slowing of its vines, it quickly realized it had been tricked.
Instead, this caused many vines to grow, tightly binding Mo Qi and even attempting to drag him to the ground.
If this mutated plant actually succeeds, I'm afraid I'll be ruined!
At this critical moment, Mo Qi was forced to use a bit of his divine sense to probe underground and check on the condition of the mutated plant.
They discovered that the other party's main body seemed to be extremely large, and they could even see that the core area of the plant was shimmering with a somewhat eerie, faint light.
It seems that the guy who tried to eat me is quite a formidable opponent.
That little bit of spiritual consciousness is not enough to save oneself.
Feeling himself sinking faster and faster, with half of his body already buried in the ground, Mo Qi had no choice but to make a decision.
The immense divine sense poured out once more, striking the core area of the mutated plant.
The plant was no match for Mo Qi. Sensing the impending danger, it roared and quickly burst out of the soil.
Mo Qi then realized that it was actually a mutated sunflower.
The other party's flower plate was exceptionally large, with a large mouth-like opening in the middle, inside which grew rows of sharp, giant teeth that only ferocious beasts possess.
This perfectly good sunflower, not only has vines growing, but it's also grown a mouth and teeth? And it's even burrowed into the ground?
Shouldn't sunflowers face the sun?
Mo Qi was a little confused about the direction of these plant mutations. Seeing that they looked like they wanted to devour him, he decided not to be polite.
He used his divine sense to shatter the opponent's newly formed brain region with a single strike.
The enormous mutated plant collapsed with a crash, spreading across the ground and rapidly beginning to rot. When exposed to sunlight, it eerily and quickly turned to dust.
Seeing this change, Mo Qi understood why the other party had been hiding underground. Their nature had changed; they were now afraid of sunlight.
But now, that's no longer his main concern.
Mo Qi had just desperately used his divine sense, which greatly increased his power and allowed him to kill the enemy in an instant. However, this also placed an irreversible burden on his body.
Blood tears streamed down the man's face. He knelt on one knee and couldn't help but spit out a mouthful of blood.
Mo Qi could feel his body withering away, and his hands were already showing signs of cracking.
Am I really going to die here today?
Before he died, shouldn't he have used his last bit of strength to release his divine consciousness and kill that guy named Xi Wenlin to take his place?
