Chapter 163 The Fun of Buying Candy

"Oh, I forgot, little sister, you can't tell Mom," Ma Ziming realized, his mother had said that if he talked nonsense outside, she would spank him.

"Hmph, give me half of your sugar, or else," Ma Zishan immediately threatened.

"Hey, I'm telling you, it's not appropriate for you two to do this in front of me," Ma Hua said helplessly, looking at the little imp in his arms.

"Hehe, Uncle is the best. We give all our candy to Uncle," Ma Zishan quickly flattered.

But these words left Ma Hua completely speechless. "I haven't even bought them for you yet, and you've already allocated them, all in front of your uncle!"

When Ma Hua brought the two children to the vicinity of the supply and marketing cooperative, he was also dumbfounded, as a long queue had already formed at the entrance of the cooperative.

The procession stretched from the supply and marketing cooperative all the way into the street, winding and turning, seemingly endless.

Ma Hua secretly swallowed, feeling a chill run down his spine.

I'd always heard about the long lines of people in old Beijing queuing up to buy things, but today I witnessed it firsthand – it was truly eye-opening!

With such a long line, I'd probably have to wait until the next century.

"Ahem, how about we eat first and then come back?" Ma Hua said, somewhat taken aback. There were just too many people; he really didn't want to wait in line.

“But Uncle, you just said you’d buy us candy,” Ma Ziming pouted, a little unhappy.

"How about your uncle takes you home and makes you rice cakes? Let me tell you, they're even tastier than candy."

"What do you guys think?" Ma Hua quickly coaxed. He really didn't want to wait in line. Such a long line, it would take forever!

"Well, okay, but I'll eat a few more pieces later," Ma Zishan and Ma Ziming exchanged a glance and said in unison.

After saying that, they gave each other a disdainful look, snorted, and turned their heads away, ignoring each other.

MCA found it amusing; since the little ancestor had already spoken, why didn't they hurry up and slip away?

Ma Hua carried her two children and strode towards home, as if afraid they would continue to pester her for candy.

Wait, when I have time, I'm definitely going to the department store and buying a bunch of candy to put in my virtual space. To avoid this awkward situation again.

As soon as Ma Hua returned home with her two children, she saw her mother's ambiguous smile, as if to say, "Why are you back so soon?"

"Mom, we're back," Ma Hua said somewhat shyly.

"Grandma, Uncle didn't buy us candy, he said he'd make us rice cakes instead," Ma Zishan said to her grandmother, oblivious to Ma Hua's embarrassment.

"Alright, alright, you two hurry up and get down. You're both grown up, why are you still letting your uncle carry you?" The mother only turned her gaze to her granddaughter after hearing her say that.

"Mom, where's the rice I brought back? Where did you put it?" Ma Hua looked in the cupboard but didn't see it, and quickly looked at his mother.

“How much do you need? If you can’t find it, I’ll go get it for you,” the mother said, turning to look at Ma Hua.

"There are too many people at the supply and marketing cooperative, so I'm planning to make a pot of rice cakes for the two kids. I don't need much, just enough for one pot."

"We're in such a rush, otherwise we could make this rice puffs at home ourselves," Ma Hua said with some regret.

"You lazybones," the mother said as she handed Ma Hua rice.

"No, I'm not being lazy. It's just that Ziming and Zishan insist on eating now."

"The air-drying and stir-frying method takes too long. Let's just go to Uncle Zhang's in the alley and have it cooked in one pot," Ma Hua hurriedly argued, though he genuinely found it a bit of a hassle.

Cooking isn't complicated, but it takes too long.

This method has actually been around for many years. In ancient times, before popcorn machines existed, people would usually deep-fry or air-dry and stir-fry rice if they wanted to eat popcorn.

"Ma Jianguo, where have you been? Go make a pot of popcorn for the kids." The mother nodded and then called to the father.

"Coming, coming! Didn't you say Xiaohua would cook lunch today? Why are you jumping around like this?" Ma Jianguo put down his book with a sigh when he heard his wife calling him.

"Why did I call you? All you do is read books all day. Go. Take this and go have a meal with Old Zhang." The mother handed the things in her hand to the father with some disdain.

"Dad, don't look at me, I still have to cook at home," Ma Hua said hurriedly when he saw his father looking at him.

"Xiao Hao. Xiao Hao, what are you doing in the house? I need to talk to you." Ma Jianguo took the things his wife handed him, his eyes lighting up.

He then called out to the house next door.

Ma Hua was completely dumbfounded. Suddenly, an old saying came to mind: "The lazy make the lazy ones do the work, and the lazy ones can only stare helplessly."

Unfortunately, this situation is unlikely to occur at home.

The mother was furious when she saw that the father didn't want to go and was even trying to order the eldest son around.

I asked you to go, but you called someone else: "Xiao Hao, don't pay attention to your dad. Don't you know the kid finally has a holiday and is resting at home for a few days? I told you to go, so just go."

After finishing her sentence, the mother changed her expression and said gently to Ma Zishan and Ma Ziming, "Zishan, Ziming, why don't you hurry up and take your grandfather to the alley entrance to pop popcorn?"

"Once you've finished making rice cakes and brought them back, your uncle will make you some delicious rice cakes. Go on your way!"

"Grandpa, Grandpa, let's go quickly!" Upon hearing this, Ma Zishan immediately understood that she wouldn't get rice cakes if her grandpa didn't go, and she immediately became anxious.

"Yes, Grandpa, let's hurry up and go." Ma Ziming seemed to understand and quickly went to his grandfather's side.

Seeing this, Ma Jianguo could only smile wryly. Well, he'd have to wait and see. "Come on, Grandpa's going to make popcorn for you guys. Let's go!"

Ma Hua and his mother exchanged a smile.
