Chapter 7 Upgrading the Factory: A Basic Pet Snack Recipe...
Tangyuan led Shiwan across a large wasteland overgrown with weeds to the factory area behind it.
While looking at the real-time 3D map, it didn't feel very real, but after actually walking around the farm, Shi Wan genuinely felt that it was quite large.
It was much bigger than she had imagined.
She remembered that the achievements page could be redeemed for many infrastructure projects, and the points mall could also be used to purchase some buildings. Shi Wan planned to walk around the entire farm when she had time, to make a preliminary plan first.
She plans to save up first, to save up the farm's gate and specific zones.
The roads on the farm also need to be repaired, and the water, electricity, and lights need to be planned.
The factory area wasn't exactly dilapidated, nor was it particularly high-end; it was just a row of ordinary industrial-style bungalows that looked dirty because they hadn't been used for a long time.
There were spider webs in the corners.
She took a mask out of her pocket and put it on, then tucked Tangyuan's curious cat head into her arms before opening the door and going inside.
The interior is designed with a steel structure, which looks very neat and spacious. Shi Wan will call it Factory No. 1 for now.
The No. 1 factory building has an area of about 600 square meters, which is more than enough for the farm's current productivity and scale.
Shi Wan opened the farm system and submitted the "Arrived at the factory" task, which was marked as completed by a red dot.
The tasks are not constantly refreshed, but rather refreshed based on each action Shi Wan takes.
Rather than urging her to complete tasks, it's more like giving her some guidance when she doesn't know what to do.
Shi Wan always felt that this system didn't seem to have KPIs; it was simply designed to help the kittens on the farm live better and healthier lives, which was why it assigned her some simple tasks.
The reward for this task is a factory disinfection card.
Shi Wan breathed a huge sigh of relief. She couldn't imagine how she could clean such a large factory all by herself.
I feel like I'm going to die from exhaustion.
Following the instructions on the card, Shi Wan carried the glutinous rice balls outside and used the disinfection card outside the factory.
A buzzing sound immediately filled the factory.
The system prompted her to wait five minutes, and Shi Wan, bored, began to look around at her surroundings.
To the right of the factory building was a warehouse. Tangyuan said that it was the farm's warehouse, and the seeds they used to grow fruits and vegetables were found in the warehouse.
Any fruit that can't be eaten after growing it will also be stored inside.
The warehouse didn't seem to be very dusty; at least Shi Wan didn't see any cobwebs when she went in.
It was probably snagged and taken away by some kitten that ran in and out.
The warehouse wasn't very full, but it was very well organized, with a small pile in each corner.
In the four corners were piles of sweet potatoes, radishes, pumpkins, and several baskets, with packets in the baskets that looked like seeds.
Shi Wan felt both amused and heartbroken. "Is this all you eat every day?"
Tangyuan's big eyes looked like they were filled with enlarged pupils in the dimly lit warehouse. "There's good food in the trash can too, and people we meet on the street will give me sausages."
Hearing this, Shi Wan felt extremely distressed.
Tangyuan never experienced anything like this when she was a child!
Her parents cook eggs for Tangyuan every day, and she also cooks chicken breast twice a week, not to mention the constant snacks and canned food.
She angrily rubbed Tangyuan's cat head hard, "You're not going home even if you're not full, are you?"
The glutinous rice ball meowed as it was being kneaded, and even argued, "The old clan chief said that you can't live with people for too long. I've been with you for so long."
Shi Wan sighed, "Never mind, I won't let you go hungry anymore anyway."
“I can feel that your tummy has gotten thinner.”
There were quite a few seeds in the basket, and the paper packets were thoughtfully labeled with their names and planting instructions.
Shi Wan flipped through the leaves, trying to find any crops with shorter growth periods and faster harvest times.
But no matter how I looked through them, all I found were radishes and the like.
I've temporarily lost interest.
Let's not even talk about whether the kitten likes to eat it or not; Shi Wan herself doesn't like to eat carrots.
The buzzing disinfection sound gradually stopped, and Shi Wan couldn't wait to carry Tangyuan back to Factory No. 1.
She wanted to put the machines in the warehouse into Factory Building No. 1. Although there was a shortage of raw materials and production could not be started for the time being, it would be good to take some photos and do some advertising to lay the groundwork for future operations.
Pushing open the door, a clean smell wafts out, with a faint hint of cleaning agent. The entire factory looks brand new, as clean as if it had been rebuilt.
The previously uneven and damaged ground has been repaired and is now brand new and clean.
Shi Wan opened the "Disinfection Completed" section of the task progress page and saw the system message: "Disinfection of the factory has been completed and the automatic disinfection function has been activated, maintaining the cleanliness of the factory interior at no less than 97%."
Shi Wan almost jumped up.
This is so useful!
That's incredibly generous!
She's already prepared to regularly repurchase disinfection cards from the points mall!
The result is free!
You can get it for free!
I feel even happier than when I received my salary.
Shi Wan took out the cat food production machine from the warehouse and started using it in the factory.
A flash of white light appeared, and the 600-square-meter factory was filled with machines.
The light green machines and the steel-structured factory buildings look somewhat out of place, but they are exceptionally cute.
Shi Wan was glad she was standing at the entrance; she wondered if she would have been hit by a machine if she had used the card while standing in the middle of the factory.
I shook my head, trying to shake off the inexplicable thought.
Shi Wan didn't have time to check the new machine; she opened the achievements page first.
"Meow! Meow Factory No. 1 is 90% complete! Congratulations!"
Huh? Ninety percent can be considered an achievement?
Shi Wan clicked on it out of curiosity and saw a line of small print:
"Girl! This is just the most basic factory! You still have room for upgrades! Your cat master is being merciful and will make up for this 10%! Remember to offer your cat master some treats~"
The annotations in the farm system always had a unique style, but Shi Wan didn't find them speechless; she was just incredibly cute.
Sigh, that's just how we cat lovers are.
She clicked to claim the achievement.
It felt like someone had pushed her, and she took two steps back and walked straight out of the gate. The door to Factory No. 1 slammed shut, startling Tangyuan so much that she almost exploded.
Shi Wan was also stunned for a moment. She looked at the "Upgrading... Do not disturb..." displayed on the real-time map and didn't react for a moment.
If she had been standing in the middle of the factory and the machinery had been released, would she have been pushed out while doing the moonwalk?
Shi Wan has strangely gone astray again.
After waiting for a while without seeing the upgrade complete, Shi Wan picked up Tangyuan and headed back.
"The old clan chief said this area is also farmland, but there are too few cats, so they can only farm the small patch in front," Tangyuan said as they passed by the wasteland.
Shi Wan asked curiously, "The old clan leader? Is he also a cat?"
"It's a meow, a black meow." Tangyuan shifted and nestled its head into Shi Wan's neck, finding a comfortable spot.
"One day, the old clan leader felt cold and stiff all over. He said he was going to die and that Meow would be the clan leader from now on," Tangyuan said sadly.
"Then it fell asleep, and meowing wouldn't wake it."
Shi Wan realized that this might have happened before Tangyuan came to her house.
Because every time it's time to sleep, Tangyuan would run over and sniff her face with his little nose.
Perhaps he was sensing her breathing, confirming that she was still alive.
Back in the fields, the kittens had had their fill of their new cat houses and came out in twos and threes to lie in the shade of the trees.
Some of the cats were sniffing around the seedlings that had already sprouted in the ground.
Shi Wan opened the land management section of the farm system and checked the specific information about the crops.
Only two kinds of plants were planted in this batch: strawberries and cat grass.
Strawberries have a longer growth cycle, but cat grass grows very quickly.
Under normal circumstances, they are mature enough to be harvested and fed to cats in seven to ten days.
The catnip seeds provided by the system are barley seeds, which are growing very well, much taller than strawberries, and are also very tender.
Shi Wan squatted down, picked a few strands, and casually placed them in front of Tangyuan. Tangyuan sniffed them and then slowly began to eat.
Shi Wan was shocked.
I didn't expect them to actually eat the glutinous rice balls, because we had grown quite a few at home before, but they never ate a single one.
Even when fed to their mouths or mixed into meat, they refuse to eat.
Why are they eating again?
Not content with finishing the food, it then went to nibble on the cat grass still growing in the ground.
The other cats also started getting restless and wanted to nibble at it.
I think I was stopped from eating any of the glutinous rice balls I wanted to eat earlier.
Shi Wan touched Tangyuan, "You're eating cat grass now? Don't you find it disgusting?"
Tangyuan licked her lips, still wanting more, "This is sweet grass, and that is bitter."
Shi Wan realized something, so she picked some more cat grass and let each of the cats around her try it.
As a result, all forty-plus cats ate it.
Not one resisted.
It seems to be very palatable.
After glancing at the information in the land management system, I confirmed that it had entered the mature stage.
Shi Wan asked Tangyuan to lead the cats to harvest all the cat grass and put it in a basket.
After opening the achievements page, I saw a new achievement option pop up: "Harvest 100 portions of cat grass: This is not ordinary cat grass, it is the best cat grass selected by the Meow King! No cat doesn't love it! If there is, it must be that stinky dog in disguise as a cat!"
Shi Wan: ...Okay.
As the harvest time increased, Shi Wan tried to help, only to find that the cat grass she harvested would not be counted in the achievements; only the kittens' hard work would be recognized by the system.
Shi Wan: ...Okay then.
She could only help tidy up the cat grass in the basket, making sure it was arranged neatly.
As the harvest neared its end, the achievement was finally completed, and Shi Wan excitedly claimed the achievement reward.
"A beginner's pet treat recipe—cat grass biscuits: made from pure, natural, pollution-free, green, and healthy ingredients sourced from farms, through precise scientific proportions and perfect manufacturing processes, these biscuits help remove hairballs, aid digestion, and even clean teeth! Your kitten's mouth will no longer be puffy!"
The ingredients needed for the recipe are very simple, and there was even plenty in the warehouse. She patiently waited until all the cat grass was received before hurriedly carrying her basket to the factory area.
Tangyuan watched her retreating figure, licked her paws, and sighed silently. Humans are really not as mature as cats!
The factory was still under upgrade, so Shi Wan went to the warehouse and got some vegetables, which she piled up at the factory entrance.
Whether it was her prayers that worked or not, a short while later, a ding was heard and the factory gate opened.
The backend upgrade has finally been completed.
She carefully pushed open the door, and was immediately stunned when she saw what was happening.
Is that last 10% really that significant?
Why does she feel that the upgraded version should only be 90%?
