Chapter Sixty-One: The Mermaid Baby is Helpless

Seeing Xie Yongnian's determined attitude, Baili Wanwan found him noisy, so she made up a reason: "You two were just arguing about having a competition, but as soon as you got into the water, a huge wave knocked you out. It took me a lot of effort to drag you out!"

Xie Yongnian and Cao Chengye were both taken aback.

Xie Yongnian, in particular, scratched the back of his head, racking his brains: "Really? I don't remember, I can't recall it?"

Baili Wanwan rolled her eyes at him and said, "The waves must have been too strong just now, making you lose your memory!"

After she finished speaking, she turned around guiltily, facing the sea with her back to the group of people.

In his heart, he thought that Lan Xuerong's move was really powerful. However, once the water flowed into their ears and came out again, these people would forget what had just happened.

If she also learned this spell, wouldn't she no longer be afraid of others discovering her true nature?

Looks like I'll have to practice properly when no one's around!

Just as she was feeling quite pleased with herself, she realized that it was getting noisier and noisier behind her, and that a lot of sand was even being thrown at her.

She came to her senses, somewhat puzzled, only to find that Cao Chengye and Xie Yongnian had started fighting at some point.

The group of friends in the village who were good friends with Xie Yongnian did not bully him; they simply stood by and cheered him on.

The two were in a truly pitiful state, throwing sand at each other in a childish and laughable way.

Although Cao Chengye looked like he was unwilling to admit defeat, he had been pampered since childhood and was not as robust as these children who spent their days fishing in the sea and climbing trees to steal birds' nests.

The difference becomes apparent after just a few tries.

Seeing that Cao Chengye was about to suffer a loss, Baili Wanwan immediately stopped the two of them in order to avoid damaging the harmony among them.

"Hey!! What are you two doing?! Stop fighting!!"

Fortunately, the two men listened to her and stopped fighting when they saw that she was angry, even though they were unwilling.

"Why are you fighting!" Baili Wanwan said, hands on her hips, glaring angrily at Cao Chengye.

Cao Chengye got even angrier when he heard this. He tugged at his torn collar and pointed at Xie Yongnian with his chin in annoyance.

Baili Wanwan's fierce gaze instantly turned to Xie Yongnian, and she said to him in a cute but fierce tone, "Tell me!"

Xie Yongnian seemed angry, but after being asked by Baili Wanwan, he suddenly felt he couldn't say it.

He glared at Cao Chengye with a defiant look on his face, but didn't say a word.

Baili Wanwan got angry: "Fine! You won't tell, huh?"

She glanced at the two of them and said aggressively, "If you don't tell me, don't come looking for me again!!"

Xie Yongnian and Cao Chengye immediately backed down upon hearing this.

Xie Yongnian, in particular, quickly said, "I'll talk, I'll talk, okay?"

It turned out that Xie Yongnian thought that they would know nothing once they went into the water, and that Cao Chengye must have done something behind their backs.

Cao Chengye was naturally very angry, resentful, and aggrieved to be wronged for no reason.

So the two started arguing, and then they started fighting.

The two of them already disliked each other, so this could be seen as them settling a personal score.

Xie Yongnian was clearly still unconvinced.

So when Cao Chengye said he had no idea, his anger was instantly reignited.

Then the two started arguing again: "If you don't know, who does? You must have deliberately confused us!"

Cao Chengye was also very angry: "Are you being unreasonable?!"

Xie Yongnian: "Who are you calling unreasonable?!"

Cao Chengye: "You're being unreasonable! You're making trouble for no reason!"

Baili Wanwan looked helpless: "Can you guys please stop arguing!"

When her attempts to dissuade them failed, Baili Wanwan decided to let go and watch the spectacle unfold as they argued heatedly.

Just then, Wan Yuekui returned from town with Wan Kongshan.

He was delighted to see Wanwan and waved to her.

"Big brother!" Wanwan was very happy to see Wan Yuekui and started talking to her.

Wan Yuekui ran over and also saw Cao Chengye and Xie Yongnian arguing as if no one else was around.

He rolled his eyes at the two of them, then said to Wanwan, "Ignore these two childish devils. Daddy made a fun thing. You can put it on the ground and whip it to make it spin really fast. Let's go back and play together."

Baili Wanwan was very interested when she heard this, so she nodded vigorously and was about to follow Wan Yuekui.

"You're not allowed to go!!"

Just then, Cao Chengye and the two of them turned their heads at the same time and said those three words to Wanwan.

Both of them grabbed Baili Wanwan's wrists at the same time, pulling her back. Although they had a disagreement earlier, they were still united in their stance against anyone trying to take Wanwan away from them!

"But it's very late today, I need to go home with my older brother."

Baili Wanwan looked at Cao Chengye and Xie Yongnian with some difficulty, blinking her innocent big eyes.

A lot happened throughout the day.

Bai Liwan was also very tired that day.

At this time, Magistrate Cao sent someone to pick up Cao Chengye, and Xie Yongnian and other parents of the children called their children to eat at the village entrance.

Although the children were unwilling, they had no choice but to obediently listen to their parents and left dejectedly.

Baili Wanwan and Wan Yuekui returned home without stopping, and they couldn't wait to play with the spinning tops made by Wan Kongshan.

Just then, Wan Yuechi, who had been reading inside the room, slowly walked out.

Unlike the carefree Wan Yuekui, Wan Yuechi was naturally intelligent and loved reading, so he always had a scholarly air about him, looking refined and quiet.

Wan Yuechi's affection for Wanwan was no less than Wan Yuekui's.

However, he was not good with words, and most of the time, he would just stand aside and watch Wan Yuekui take Wanwan around and play wildly.

When Wan Yuechi saw Wan Yuekui making Wanwan laugh happily, he couldn't help but feel a little eager to try it himself.

"Wanwan, this is a book written by my favorite author. Do you like it? I can read it with you."

Wan Yuechi took this step for the first time. He slowly moved over and handed his favorite book to Wanwan.

In his view, this was the most precious thing he had.

Baili Wanwan looked up at Wan Yuechi, feeling very troubled.

She didn't actually like reading, but that didn't mean she disliked her second brother.

She was just afraid that he would be heartbroken if she rejected Wan Yuechi.

So just as she was hesitating about whether to agree, someone outside suddenly called her name.

Baili Wanwan breathed a sigh of relief and then hurriedly went out to check.

Outside was a little boy about the same age as Wan Yuekui, his skin tanned a healthy wheat color by the sun, with a set of bright white teeth, looking exceptionally cheerful.

"Who are you?" Baili Wanwan didn't recognize the newcomer, so her voice carried a hint of surprise.
