Chapter Sixty-Three: The Mermaid Baby Gets a Lesson from Grandpa

The three children weakly called out "Wan Suizhou".

Although they didn't know if they had made a mistake, they felt extremely guilty when they met the eyes of Wan Suizhou.

Wan Suizhou settled into his rocking chair, took a sip of tea, and then asked, "Who are you talking about swimming with?"

At this moment, Wan Suizhou's voice had changed.

Although the tone of the inquiry was very calm, Wan Yuekui's alarm bells were ringing loudly.

Having committed multiple crimes, he has learned to distinguish between the calm before the storm and true sunshine.

So he kept his mouth shut, not intending to continue talking about it, and was even thinking about how to get out of this mess.

But there was one thing he forgot.

Although he is intelligent, he is not alone now.

He also has two teammates who fight alongside him.

Although Wan Yuechi had been disciplined by him, he had learned when to keep quiet.

But there was one person he missed.

By the time he remembered, Baili Wanwan had already innocently spoken: "It was during the day, there was a little boy in the village named He Yong who insisted on having a swimming contest with me..."

Wan Yuekui was shocked and wished he could cover Baili Wanwan's mouth on the spot.

Just as he was about to offer a reminder, Wan Suizhou shot him a warning look.

Wan Yuekui, afraid of being beaten, hid to the side and remained silent.

Wan Suizhou looked away and then asked Wanwan, "So you agreed?"

Wanwan still didn't notice anything amiss, so she nodded and replied, "Yes, he said the competition is in three days. Grandpa, will you go to see it?"

"Nonsense!"

Baili Wanwan originally wanted to share this matter with Wan Suizhou, but unexpectedly, she received only two words from him that were neither too light nor too heavy.

Baili Wanwan was taken aback and looked at Wan Suizhou with some confusion.

Wan Suizhou gave her a serious look, then said, "I'm asking you, who first suggested the competition?"

Baili Wanwan's expression was sullen as she honestly replied, "It was him..."

Seeing that it wasn't Wanwan who had asked for it, Wan Suizhou's cold and hard face softened a little.

But the next moment, he continued, "Do you know why Grandpa was angry?"

Baili Wanwan pursed her lips and shook her head slightly.

Wan Suizhou then said, "Firstly, swimming is extremely dangerous. No matter who it is, a slight mistake will lead to regret."

He paused, then continued, "Secondly, a strong competitive spirit will make you lose yourself and will not benefit you in the future. When interacting with others, you should be humble and not be jealous or show off. Moreover, since God has given you this skill, you must learn to conceal your abilities, otherwise one day you will lose it."

Although Wan Suizhou's expression was serious, every word he spoke was a teaching.

I learned a lot from the winding road.

So she nodded obediently and said, "Grandpa, Wanwan understands..."

Wan Suizhou also learned from Wan Yuekui that Wanwan did not start this matter first.

Having learned the whole story, he didn't say another word to Wanwan. He just gave her a few instructions and then went back to his room.

The next morning, Lin Yang'er was sent to the Wan family by Lin Lan early.

Lin Yang'er also heard from Wan Yuekui about Wanwan's swimming competition.

She seemed very happy, so she hugged Wanwan's arm and secretly cheered her on in her ear.

"Fairy sister Yang'er thinks you'll definitely win! I believe in you!"

Baili Wanwan was even happier to see that Yang'er supported her no matter what she did.

She generously shared half of the sweet cakes her aunt had bought for her with Lin Yang'er.

The two were chatting and laughing when Zhang Xiu, walking out of the room, began to mutter to herself, "What's wrong with this child today..."

She was holding a bowl of fruit, as if she wanted to give it to someone, but she didn't succeed.

Baili Wanwan happened to see this, so she ran up to her and asked, "Auntie, what's wrong?"

Zhang Xiu patted Wanwan's head and said to her, "It's all because of your second brother. He's locked himself in his room all day and won't open it no matter how much we call him."

Holding a freshly cut watermelon in her hand, she said, "Look, I can't even bring him some food inside."

Wan Yuechi has been introverted since childhood, as everyone in the Wan family knows.

He didn't like to go out and have fun; he had a steady personality and preferred to stay indoors reading in his spare time. These things weren't a problem, though. Zhang Xiu liked him and would personally bring him food and drink.

In the past, one could simply push the door open and enter, but today, for some reason, Wan Yuechi made the door more complicated.

Just then, Wan Yuekui returned from playing around outside.

Upon hearing Zhang Xiu's words, he hurriedly said, "Could she have fallen asleep while reading inside? I'll go check!"

As he spoke, he ran into the house and began banging on the door.

"Little Erzi! Let's go! Let's go out and play!"

There was no reply from inside; instead, it became even quieter.

Wan Yuekui refused to believe it and smashed it again.

Zhang Xiu couldn't sit still any longer, so she went over and grabbed his ear, pulling him out.

"Are you calling for help or demolishing the house?! I bet my house will collapse before you even get a chance to call anyone out!!"

Wan Yuekui screamed in pain, but his face showed defiance.

Baili Wanwan glanced at it and then volunteered to step forward.

"Auntie, let me try..."

Zhang Xiu thought that Wan Yuechi had always doted on Wanwan, and perhaps he would listen to Wanwan's advice and open the door.

So he nodded and agreed.

Baili Wanwan took the watermelon from Zhang Xiu and slowly walked into the house.

She wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, but as she approached the door, it seemed as if someone inside was eavesdropping and then hurriedly ran away when they saw her coming.

Stopping thinking about all that, Baili Wanwan started knocking on the door.

"Second brother, I am Wanwan..."

There was no sound inside.

So Wanwan knocked on the door again, and finally a voice came from inside, unhurriedly: "I'm not eating, leave me alone..."

Wanwan blinked, and judging from Wan Yuechi's muffled voice, she could roughly guess that Wan Yuechi seemed to be a little sad.

"Second brother, can you open the door and let me in?" Baili Wanwan asked.

Wan Yuechi hesitated for a moment, then remained lying on the table without moving.

Baili Wanwan then pretended to be very pitiful and sad and asked, "Second brother, do you hate Wanwan and don't like Wanwan anymore?"

This trick worked. Baili Wanwan didn't stay outside the door for long before Wan Yuechi opened it for her.

Baili Wanwan then held up the watermelon, grinning as she approached him and said, "Second brother, the watermelon is so sweet!"

Although Wan Yuechi let her in, his expression remained unhappy. He sat sullenly to the side, his voice low: "I don't want to eat."

Seeing that he looked very unhappy, Baili Wanwan found it strange and went up to ask him what was wrong.

Wan Yuechi avoided her gaze, remaining silent and unable to offer any clear explanation.
