Zhou Yanjing stood behind her, looking at her quietly, his eyes as gentle as a ray of warm winter sunshine. He took a step closer, put his arms around her waist from behind, rested his chin lightly on her shoulder, and breathed warmly past her ears.
"How is it? Do you like it?" His voice was low, with a lazy smile.
Shen Liwu tilted her head slightly, with a slight arc at the corner of her lips, "I like it, it feels warm, like home."
She turned around and smiled: "The key is you."
Zhou Yanjing's eyes trembled slightly, and a gentle light flashed in his eyes. He didn't say anything, but just held her hand tighter, gently stroking her palm with his fingertips, as if he wanted to keep the warmth of this moment forever.
The sunlight from outside the window poured in through the curtains, and the mottled light and shadows danced under their feet. The air was filled with a faint woody fragrance mixed with a hint of stale dust, as if time had stopped here.
"I thought you wouldn't come back to my hometown with me, and you wouldn't be able to see the wedding room I decorated. Even though you didn't come with me, I still told my parents not to move anything in the room and keep it as it was, thinking that one day you would come back."
And he did wait, she followed him here.
Shen Liwu’s heart trembled slightly, and her eyes became a little hot. She lowered her head and gently stroked the patterns on the sheets with her fingertips.
She couldn't imagine that in her previous life, she had been avoiding Zhou Yanjing, and he didn't wait for her to return to her hometown. Would the wedding room remain the same for decades afterwards?
"What if I don't come with you?"
"Then keep it up."
Shen Liwu's throat choked, and his heart seemed to be grabbed by something, and sour emotions rolled in his chest. She looked up at Zhou Yanjing. His deep eyes were filled with seriousness and persistence, as if telling her that no matter how long it took, he would wait.
"Silly boy..." Her voice was low and choked with sobs, yet it revealed an indescribable tenderness.
Zhou Yanjing chuckled, raised his hand to touch her cheek, and gently brushed the faint watery light in the corner of her eyes with his thumb, "I'm not stupid, I know you are worth my wait."
Shen Liwu closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of his palm, and the defenses in her heart completely collapsed at this moment. She leaned into his arms, her forehead against his chest, listening to his steady, strong heartbeat, as if the whole world had quieted down.
"I'm sorry," she said softly, her voice as if squeezed out from the depths of her throat, filled with deep guilt.
She wanted to say sorry to him on behalf of her past life self, because she was the one who let him down.
"You didn't do me any wrong, I did it willingly."
Zhou Yanjing tightened his arms and held her tightly in his arms. His breathing was slightly heavy, and the faint fragrance of her hair lingered around his nose, like some kind of reassuring smell. His palm gently stroked her back, and his fingertips felt her slightly trembling body through her clothes, like branches swaying in the wind, fragile yet tough.
"Do you know?" His voice was low and a little hoarse, as if he was suppressing some emotion. "I have always been waiting for you, even if you don't come, I will wait. Because for me, you have never been an option, but the only answer."
Shen Liwu's heart suddenly shook, as if it was hit hard by something.
Shen Liwu's eyes suddenly turned red, tears welled up in her eyes, but she stubbornly refused to let them fall. She raised her head and looked at Zhou Yanjing's angular face, her fingertips gently stroking his brow bone, as if she wanted to imprint his current expression deeply in her mind.
"Why are you so stupid?" Her voice was hoarse, with a hint of helplessness and heartache.
