Chapter 97 If you had married me before, I wouldn't be so sad (1/2)

She looked down at her belly and gave a bitter smile. Baby, you came at a really bad time. She hasn't enjoyed it enough.

The sky gradually darkened, and the twilight permeated the entire sky like ink, and the light in the fields became increasingly dim. The mountains in the distance are shrouded in a thin layer of mist, as if covered by a layer of veil, revealing mystery in the haziness.

Zhou Yanjing came over with his bare chest, "Come to your house, we'll cook dinner there."

He held out his hand and motioned for her to put it on it.

Shen Liwu looked up at him and saw that there was sweat on his forehead and sliding down his neck. His chest rose and fell slightly with his breathing, and the strong muscles in his arms looked particularly prominent in the dim light. Her heartbeat involuntarily quickened a few beats. She placed her fingers lightly on his palm and felt the warmth from it.

"Okay." She responded softly, and stood up with his help. Her body was shaking slightly, and Zhou Yanjing immediately reached out to hold her waist and held her steadily in his arms.

"Are you hungry?" he asked.

Shen Liwu nodded gently, and his fingers touched his stomach involuntarily, ā€œI’m a little hungry.ā€

Her voice was soft, with a hint of weariness.

Zhou Yanjing frowned slightly when he heard this, and a trace of heartache flashed in his eyes, "Let's go, let's go cook."

As he spoke, he picked up the sickle and kettle beside him, and his other hand was still holding Shen Liwu tightly.

The two walked side by side on the road home, the afterglow of the setting sun shining on them, lengthening their shadows. The breeze blows gently through the fields, carrying the fragrance of soil and corn. Shen Liwu's steps were a little slow, and Zhou Yanjing slowed down to match her pace.

As soon as they got home, Zhou Yanjing lit a fire and cooked. Shen Liwu went to take a bath, and Zhou Yu and Zhou Li also came.

We had dinner together and it was already past nine o'clock, ready to go to bed.

Shen Liwu lay on the bed. Zhou Yanjing closed the door. The room suddenly became quiet, with only the faint sound of insects outside the window. He walked to the bed, gently lifted the quilt, and lay down next to Shen Liwu. The mattress sank slightly, and Shen Liwu felt the temperature of his body transmitted through the thin pajamas, warm and solid.

"Go to sleep." As the night deepened, there was silence outside the window, with only the occasional chirping of insects.

Zhou Yanjing's arms naturally wrapped around Shen Liwu's shoulders and gently held her in his arms. Her back was pressed against his chest, and through the thin pajamas, she could feel his strong heartbeat, beat by beat, steady and reassuring.

Shen Liwu closed her eyes, but hadn't fallen asleep yet. Zhou Yanjing beside her suddenly sat up and alertly climbed to the window to look.

Outside the window, the moonlight shines into the yard, the shadows of the trees are swaying, and the breeze blows, making the leaves rustle. Zhou Yanjing narrowed his eyes and stared at a shadow in the corner of the yard with a serious expression. His fingers were clasped tightly around the window frame, his muscles tense, like a cheetah ready to strike at any moment.

"What's wrong?"

"Someone's out there." He lowered his voice, his tone wary.

Shen Liwu's heart suddenly tightened, and his fingers unconsciously clenched the corner of the quilt. She sat up from the bed and followed his gaze, only to see a blurry black shadow.

"Did you see who it was?"
