"Shh——" Zhou Yanjing raised his hand to signal her to be quiet, his eyes as sharp as a flower. He gently pushed open the window, and the night breeze blew in, bringing a cool breeze. His body leaned forward slightly, his ears perked up, listening for any unusual noises.
The yard was so quiet that even the chirping of insects seemed to have disappeared. Shen Liwu’s heartbeat echoed in his ears, thumping against his chest. A layer of cold sweat broke out on her palms and her eyes were fixed on that direction.
Suddenly, a black shadow swayed, followed by the sound of light footsteps, as if someone was deliberately lightening his footsteps. Zhou Yanjing's pupils suddenly contracted, his fingers moved slightly, and he almost instinctively grabbed the flashlight on the bedside table. His movements were swift and silent, like a beast lurking in the darkness.
"Let me take a look, don't come out."
Zhou Yanjing climbed out of the window quietly, his toes landing lightly on the ground without making any sound.
Zhou Yanjing's figure disappeared silently in the darkness, and Shen Liwu's heart rose to his throat. His figure blended into the night, like an agile cheetah, approaching the vague black shadow. He held the flashlight tightly in his hand but did not turn it on as he did not want to alert the enemy.
Shen Liwu sat on the bed, holding her breath, her fingers tightly grasping the corner of the quilt, staring out the window without blinking. The yard looked particularly eerie under the moonlight, with mottled shadows of the trees, as if countless ghosts with bared fangs and claws were swaying in the wind.
She heard Zhou Yanjing's footsteps were very light, as if they were stepping on cotton wool, almost inaudible.
The sound of the wind outside the window seemed to grow louder, and the rustling of leaves seemed to be accompanying the uneasiness in her heart. She held her breath and stared at the direction where Zhou Yanjing disappeared without blinking, afraid of missing any details.
In the corner of the yard, Zhou Yanjing moved close to the wall, his ears keenly capturing any slight movement. The dark shadow seemed to have sensed something, and suddenly stopped, then turned around and tried to escape.
Zhou Yanjing's eyes flashed, he exerted force on his feet, and rushed over like a gust of wind.
"Stop!" he growled, his voice filled with unquestionable authority. But he moved very quickly and approached the black shadow in the blink of an eye.
Suddenly, a low muffled sound was heard, followed by the sound of a struggle.
The man obviously did not expect to be caught up. He staggered in panic and almost fell. Zhou Yanjing took a few steps towards him and saw her face clearly in the dim light.
He immediately steadied the other person's body to prevent her from falling.
"Changfeng? Why are you sneaking into my house?" Zhou Yanjing let go of her.
Zhang Changfeng stood there, his face pale and his eyes flickering, as if his secrets had been exposed. She lowered her head, the night wind ruffled her hair, which fell in front of her forehead and covered most of her face. Her shoulders trembled slightly, as if she was under great pressure.
"I... I just..." Her voice was as thin as a mosquito's hum and intermittent, as if even she herself didn't know how to explain it.
Zhou Yanjing frowned, his eyes were cold, "What do you want to do?"
Zhang Changfeng's body suddenly stiffened, as if she was frightened by his tone. She raised her head, her eyes were red and tears were welling up in them, but they didn't fall. Her lips trembled slightly, and her voice choked, "I have nowhere to go."
Zhou Yanjing and Zhou Mei, what does it mean? No place to go to his house?
Zhang Changfeng burst into tears and said, "I saw you guys in the field yesterday. When I got home, Wang Wei beat me up and told me I wanted to die. He said I looked down on him and said I was not as capable as you. He locked me out and I had nowhere else to go so I came to find you."
She threw herself on Zhou Yanjing and hugged him tightly, "Yanjing, please help me. If you had married me before, I wouldn't be so sad."
