Chapter 3: Magic

Chapter 3-3- Magic

"Yvette."

"Yvette."

"Yvette!"

Li You felt that someone was talking next to him in a strange language, but he seemed to understand it.

He opened his eyes and found himself lying on a bed. At the door of the room, a slightly hazy figure was standing there. He looked at her and said, "Well, you finally woke up. How was your sleep last night? Are you used to the bed?"

"...Me?" Li You looked at the slightly hazy and transparent figure in front of him and found that it was a strange woman in a white coat.

"Yeah, who else would be in this room?" the female figure said with a smile.

"Hmm... I'm used to sleeping..." Li You said as he looked around. The layout of the room was familiar. Although the fluorescent vines were gone, it was exactly the same room he had woken up in on the ninth floor underground. Combined with the phantom in front of him talking to him, the answer seemed to be on the horizon.

He went back to the past in the form of hallucination or dream!

Is it because of the fog on the negative tenth floor?

He fell asleep in the fog and established a connection with the past history of this underwater facility?

It doesn’t sound very scientific, but it seems to be the only way to think about it!

"It's good that you can sleep well." The female figure said, "It will be breakfast time soon. Hurry up and change your clothes and get ready to wash up."

"Oh, okay..." Li You nodded obediently like an ordinary little girl. He answered in Chinese, while the hazy woman used a strange language from another world. However, the two sides could understand each other, which was undoubtedly a proof of the dream.

Seeing Li You get out of bed, the woman left. Li You walked to the door and peeked in for a while, and soon heard her talking to other children from the door of the next room. This made him roughly determine the woman's identity, either a dormitory manager or a teacher...

So this is actually a closed school?

Perhaps because of the dream, everyone was slightly transparent and hazy, like the NPCs in the game, and did not create too much tension for Li You.

He found a blue children's uniform, underwear, shoes and socks in the closet in the room. Then, through the half-length mirror on the inside of the closet, he saw a little girl with long silver hair and dark red eyes, who was looking at him quietly in the mirror.

The girl had delicate and beautiful features and a slender figure. She was wearing children's clothing that didn't suit her temperament at all. She looked like a beauty that had walked out of a scroll. Slowly, she smiled faintly at Li You, looking a little awkward, but also very endearing.

After being in a stalemate with the little girl in the mirror for more than ten seconds, Li You stopped smiling awkwardly and looked at the little girl with silver hair and red eyes in the mirror whose expression had also returned to normal. He wondered if this is what he looked like now?

It was so beautiful that I didn't react at first and thought I'd seen a ghost... And how should I put it, although I'm very dissatisfied with wearing the wrong gender, fortunately the original owner is not ugly, so I can accept it...

Forget it, now is not the time to think about these trivial matters!

Shaking his head, Li You changed his clothes and walked out of the room. He went with the children's troops to wash and have breakfast, and finally arrived at a small classroom, waiting for morning class.

During the roll call in the morning class, Li You finally learned his own name, or the original owner's full name.

"Yvette Lohivia."

"arrive."

She raised her hand and said to herself, from now on, I am Yvette Losiviya.

After the morning roll call, the first class was Chinese, which was taught in a foreign language called "Kuroshio language", but the teaching method was very special - all the children had to enter the computer room, lie on a special metal chair, wear a helmet-like device, and then follow the guidance program in the virtual world to learn by themselves.

Since she couldn't be sure when the dream would end, Yvette was particularly serious during the learning process. She was also amazed by the head-mounted devices in this world, which were simply virtual reality that only existed in science fiction novels.

However, in order to prevent students from being distracted, there are restrictions on usage permissions in the teaching mode, and most functions are locked. This prevented Yvette, who wanted to check other information, from gaining much benefit. She only knew that this was a "head-mounted vision terminal" and supporting teaching software produced by a company called "Gravity Group", and that it used an unfamiliar technology called "Rune Group".

"Rune...set?"

Chewing on this word, Yvette guessed that the technology tree of this world might be different from what she imagined.

After class, before lunch, all children have a physical examination, and the medical room is in the room next to the classroom.

While queuing, Yvette got some accurate information by asking other children.

"You said this isn't a school?" Yvette asked in surprise.

"Don't you know?" The speaker was a little girl at the front of the line, also a translucent shadow. "This is the 'Ish Mountain Black Tower Research Center'... Aren't you here because you have a genetic disease?"

"Genetic disease? What's that?"

"I don't know. Before sending me here, the director said that I have this disease and it will flare up when I grow up, so I have to come here for long-term treatment." said the little girl.

"Who is the Dean's grandfather?"

"Grandpa, the director of the orphanage I used to work at."

“Oh…”

Soon, after making inquiries from many sources, Yvette finally pieced together a relatively clear model of the situation here.

This is a scientific research center affiliated to the super pharmaceutical company "Black Tower Pharmaceuticals". Because it is built in the dark underwater, it is often called the "Abyss Base".

While responding to the government's call to provide free welfare checkups to children in orphanages, the company discovered that many orphans suffered from a specific genetic defect. To research and develop treatments for these rare and incurable diseases, the company partnered with various orphanages, bringing in children with these conditions for long-term observation and treatment.

The lake outside is a huge crater lake. The entire abyss base is built on the top of a dormant volcano called "Mount Ish". According to the staff here, the last eruption of Mount Ish was tens of thousands of years ago. The magma chamber below has been completely solidified and there is no risk of eruption.

But what happened later? Everyone here died. There were a bunch of monsters outside, and only the original owner seemed to be alive inside...

Images of many classic works flashed through Yvette's mind.

Could it be that they were researching some terrible biological weapon here, using the children in the orphanage as experimental subjects, and finally the virus leaked, contaminating the entire base and the crater lake outside?

The reason why no one from outside has come to clean up the base or collect the bodies is because the virus is spreading and no one dares to come?

What about the original owner?

The original owner was able to wake up unharmed in the base, perhaps not because of time travel, but because she mutated and became the only one who could adapt to the virus?

Or even the virus matrix?

Okay, that was a bit too distracting. This wasn't Resident Evil or Prototype... Yvette stopped daydreaming and followed the other children into the examination room one by one.

The physical examination process is not complicated, and you don’t need to lift your clothes. You just need to stand on a testing instrument for a while and then draw some blood.

After leaving the room, seeing the woman guarding the door, Yvette said, "Doctor Tabetha, can I ask you a question?"

Tabitha was the lady who woke her up in the morning and then took them to the computer room for class. It seemed that she was originally a researcher here, but was temporarily transferred to be the children's caregiver. Her full name was Tabitha Clovillan.

After hearing Yvette's question, she said softly, "Okay, what's your question, Yvette?"

"What are runes?" Yvette asked.

"Oh, this," Tabitha said. "This is the foundation of magical research and the cornerstone of human civilization. Simply put, it's like tiny dots that, when combined, become you, me, various substances, various magical elements, and everything in the universe."

"……magic?!"

"Yes, it's magic. You should be familiar with this word. I see that many children nowadays want to be great magicians when they grow up."

"Then can I learn magic now?" Yvette asked quickly.

"Now? Don't be in a hurry. Learn Chinese well first. When you are old enough, you will naturally come into contact with courses like rune compilation. But by then, you may not like them." Tabitha said with a smile.
