Chapter 4 - 4 - Learning
After receiving Tabitha's answer, Yvette's first reaction was that the technological level of this civilization must have reached a very high level. After all, the term "rune compilation" sounded like magic was being operated as a program software.
But then she felt a little worried.
She didn't know when this dream would end. If it lasted longer, it would be fine. She could seize the time to acquire useful knowledge here and live a relatively comfortable life. But if it lasted for a short time, it would be bad. After leaving this dream, she would be alone in the ruins base, and the source of food alone would be a difficult problem.
You can't really chew the vines. They are blue and glowing, and who knows if they are poisonous.
"Doctor Tabitha, I feel that my studies need improvement. Can I go to the classroom and use the 'Vision Terminal' in my spare time?" Yvette asked.
She believed that the first thing to solve now was the language problem. Once she mastered the Kuroshio language, she could go to the library on this floor to study on her own, and obtaining a lot of information would not be so passive.
"Sure." Tabitha was a little surprised, but nodded. "Just come to my office and let me know when you need it. I'll open it for you."
"Thank you, doctor." Yvette nodded slightly.
After the physical examination, Taibesha and the attending physician distributed several bottles of medicine to the twenty or so children. The packaging of these medicine bottles had no words on it and looked like three-no products from a small workshop, except that the color of the bottles was slightly different.
According to the doctor's instructions, these medicines must be taken once a day. Different children have different degrees and types of genetic diseases, so the dosage required is also different. Each time the medicine is taken, it must be taken under the supervision of an adult.
This is too much like a guinea pig! Yvette shook her head secretly, but it was just a dream after all, so she ate it, so she didn't hesitate when taking the medicine.
…
After lunch, there are no classes in the afternoon and it is all free time.
Probably due to the difficulty of supervision, all the children were taken to a huge activity room, where there were many educational toys and picture books suitable for preschool children, as well as amusement facilities such as trampolines, which looked very suitable for killing energy and passing time.
Because Yvette had applied, she was able to enter the computer room again and use the vision terminal here to study.
Putting on the terminal again and entering the virtual space, Yvette discovered that most of the previously locked functions had been opened, which also meant that it was no longer a teaching mode and she could operate freely on the software.
With a simple adjustment using her mind, she transformed the place she was in from a clean dark space into a prefabricated beach scene, which was a very realistic environment.
Then she saw a cute-version rag doll appear before her and say, "This is 'Happy Classroom,' a self-learning program developed by Gravity Group. What would you like to study?"
"Who are you?" Yvette asked. She felt that the movements of this rag doll were very human-like, and it was completely different from the AI in the previous teaching mode.
But considering that this is not a "teaching mode" controlled by a teacher machine, this may be the performance that AI in this world should have.
"I'm Firefly, your good friend. You can come to me if you have any questions~" A smile appeared on the face of the AI-programmed doll.
"Any questions are fine?" Yvette's mind stirred. "Then do you know about a vine that can glow? The light is cyan blue, and it looks like it's flowing beneath its protective tissue. It can grow for hundreds of years in a dark environment without anyone to care for it..."
"Based on the information you provided and the existing database, the plants you described may be Magic Light Vine, Mort Vine and Ancient Dust Vine. Among them, Magic Light Vine is the closest to your description and is the only plant that can live for more than a hundred years." The rag doll's little hand moved and cut out a picture of a plant.
"Yes, that's it, the Magic Light Vine." Yvette was sure.
"Okay, according to my database, the Magic Light Vine is a genetically modified plant produced by the Lintui Biological Company. Its product labels are 'biological lighting' and 'magical autotrophic plant'. Its theoretical lifespan can reach over 2,800 years..."
"Flowering interval is 100 ± 5 years, and flowering lasts for 3 weeks... The seeds are powdery, and the natural propagation success rate is less than 0.1%... Advantages: Zero-energy lighting, extremely durable... Disadvantages: Regular pruning is required to avoid excessive entanglement..."
As the AI rambled on, reading the data, Yvette gestured to a width of about 40 centimeters. "How many years would it take for the main stem of the Magic Light Vine to reach this thickness?"
This was the size of the thickest main stem she had seen in the ruins base.
"To reach this size, under ideal conditions, it has been calculated that it would take about 288 to 315 years."
"Three hundred years..."
Yvette was stunned for a moment, and then confirmed the measurement units with the AI in front of her. She found that the time units and various measurement units in this world were very close to those on Earth, which meant that the 300 years mentioned here were just as she imagined, a real 300 years, almost the lifespan of the Song Dynasty.
So, the Abyss Base in reality has been abandoned for 300 years and no one has come to deal with it?
What's going on? Has the outside world also been destroyed? Have I traveled to a post-apocalyptic wasteland?
After a long silence, Yvette finally decided to put the question aside and asked, "Then answer me, how do I learn magic? For example, if I want to use a spell immediately, what's the fastest way to learn it? It has to be without any barriers to entry."
Firefly: "Analyzing the request for 'Zero Threshold, Instant Magic Usage Plan'... Recommending a plan to rent or purchase a 'Magic Terminal'..."
"It doesn't cost any money!"
Firefly nodded. "Okay, budget constraints detected, switching to the 'junk man's special' plan..."
“…”Garbage man?
"Zero-cost magic activation plan (at your own risk). Plan one, scavenge for scraps... Plan two, make your own homemade magic tool..."
“Stop, stop, stop.”
Yvette shook her head repeatedly. "What are you recommending? Why is there a parenthetical about taking your own risks... Isn't there something more normal? Like, a more natural, original method?"
Firefly: "Okay, here's the solution that best suits your needs—'Retro Meditation Method'. Suitable environment... Meditation posture... Core tips... Rune recommendations... Theoretical effects..."
That's right.
Yvette listened attentively, trying to memorize every detail. Then she heard the AI continue, "Additional explanation: This method originated from an ancient civilization approximately 30,000 years ago. According to modern pedagogy, reaching entry-level magic power (10 mana points, enough to cast a stable illumination spell for approximately 30 minutes) through pure natural meditation takes an average of 7 years and 4 months. For beginners injected with the lowest level of active rune sets, it only takes 4.6 minutes..."
"...Since then, Nature Meditation has been officially removed from the 'Recommended Spellcaster Training Program' and is now used more for self-cultivation and cultivating one's character. Please do not consider it a regular path for spellcaster learning..."
"Entry-level... Illumination... Seven years..." Yvette was a little confused. Is this meditation method so weak?
but……
It seems she has no other choice.
