Chapter 122 The Students' Gifts

After lunch, Feng Mingshu brought her sister-in-law to the school and explained the situation to Principal Yao.

The school provides certain support to the children of its faculty and staff.

Feng Mingshu's child is still in her womb, so she doesn't need this care for the time being. The care will be transferred to her sister-in-law, and Principal Yao has no objection.

After asking Zhou Caifeng about her elementary school graduation score, Principal Yao gave her some simple questions. After Zhou Caifeng finished, Principal Yao smiled and nodded: "Zhou has a good foundation. You can go to the first year of junior high school and attend classes with her now."

Zhou Caifeng was so happy she almost jumped for joy. She thanked Principal Zhou repeatedly, received her books, and then went to the classroom with the homeroom teacher of Class 1, Grade 7. She did not need Feng Mingshu to accompany her.

This girl wasn't intimidated at all in unfamiliar environments.

"Your daughter is brave, that's good."

Principal Yao first praised her with a smile, and then said, "However, this girl's foundation is only average. She has already completed most of the first-year junior high school curriculum. If no one tutors her, she will likely fall behind. Teacher Feng, we have two options now. One is to let her repeat the first year of junior high school next semester, and the other is to have her subject teachers tutor her individually, so that she can pass the first-year junior high school final exam in two or three months. It's just that it will be quite difficult."

After listening, Feng Mingshu knew that Principal Yao was genuinely concerned about Zhou Caifeng's grades. She quickly thanked her, "Thank you, Principal Yao. This child is a bit older, and the teachers are also working very hard. I don't want to trouble them. I'd like to tutor her myself first. If she doesn't pass the final exam, I'll let her repeat the first year of junior high."

"That's fine, but you should do what you can and prioritize your health," Principal Yao advised.

The family compound was only so big, and the news of Feng Mingshu's pregnancy spread quickly, and then it reached the school. As a result, all the faculty and staff of the school took good care of her.

There's no other way; there's only one English teacher on the whole island. If Feng Mingshu gets too tired one day, the school's English classes will have to stop.

Principal Yao, still concerned, added, "I will instruct all the teachers to pay close attention to Zhou's studies."

Feng Mingshu could naturally feel Principal Yao's concern. She stood up and thanked him, saying, "Thank you, Principal. I will take care of myself and won't miss any classes."

"If you feel unwell any day, you should still rest," Principal Yao said with a smile, adding another reminder.

Feng Mingshu has two classes in the afternoon, both of which are in a large classroom.

As she was about to sing an English song as usual, the class's art and literature representative stood up and said, "Teacher Feng, we all know you are pregnant, and we are all happy for you. So we decided to give you a gift. Please don't mind."

Feng Mingshu was touched by what she heard, but still politely declined: "I appreciate your kindness, but I won't accept the gift. I don't want to be investigated by my superiors."

The sentence about the review was half serious and half joking, and the students laughed along with it.

"Teacher, don't worry, it's nothing valuable, and you won't be subject to any investigation," the arts and literature committee member explained.

Upon hearing this, Feng Mingshu had a vague idea and smiled, saying, "Then the teacher is really looking forward to it."

Her expectations were not disappointed. The entertainment committee member came to the front of the stage and led the whole class in singing "Why are the flowers so red".

The clear singing voices echoed throughout the classroom. Some students' pronunciations weren't quite standard, but every student sang the entire song.

This is the result of just two months of learning English; it's nothing short of a miracle.

Feng Mingshu's eyes welled up with tears. She gently touched her still-flat stomach and began to sing along with her students: "Why are the flowers so red? They are burning like fire..."

The song drifted out of the window, soaring above the blue sky and sea, and gradually became popular throughout the entire island. Even elementary school students could hum along to the tune.

After learning about this situation, the political department of the army conducted a special investigation, but for some reason, no one approached Feng Mingshu for a talk, nor did anyone stop the song from being sung.

Zhou Caifeng was particularly happy. When she got back, she told her mother about it and even sang a few lines, but she was completely off-key and her pronunciation was mostly wrong.

The old lady listened with great interest and even asked Zhou Caifeng to sing it again. However, the eldest son of the Qin family next door heard this and, without considering his older sister's feelings, ran over to the old lady and said, "Grandma Zhou, Aunt Zhou sang it wrong. I'll sing it right for you."

"And me too!"

Erwa and Sanwa also ran over and sang along with their older brother. Their children's voices were clear and melodious, making Zhou Caifeng blush.

It's embarrassing.

The old lady listened with a smile, then took out some malt candy as a reward for the three children.

After the three children left, she turned to scold her daughter: "Look at you, you can't even compare to three children, and you still have the nerve to tell people every day that Teacher Feng is your sister-in-law. You've completely disgraced your sister-in-law!"

When Feng Mingshu returned from the hospital for a check-up, she happened to hear her mother-in-law's words and smiled as she spoke up for Zhou Caifeng: "Mom, you're wrong. Caifeng has been studying hard for the past two weeks and her grades have improved a lot. All her teachers have praised her, which makes me very proud."

Hearing her sister-in-law's praise, Zhou Caifeng's face turned even redder. She had ranked last in yesterday's monthly test.

The old lady was delighted to hear this, but seeing her daughter's expression, she became a little suspicious: "Is what your sister-in-law said true?"

Faced with her mother's expectant gaze, Zhou Caifeng bit her lip and finally nodded.

The old lady was overjoyed: "I'll boil an extra egg tonight to help your brain function."

Zhou Caifeng: "..."

I just don't feel like what my mother said was nice. Why is that?

Feng Mingshu couldn't help but chuckle and beckoned Zhou Caifeng upstairs to the study.

Upon entering the study, Zhou Caifeng blushed and apologized, "I'm sorry, sister-in-law."

"What have you done to wrong me?" Feng Mingshu asked with a smile.

Zhou Caifeng scratched her face: "My poor grades made you lose face, and I made you lie to my mother for me."

Feng Mingshu smiled and shook his head: "I'm not lying. All the teachers have praised you to me, saying that you are hardworking and serious, and your grades have improved."

Zhou Caifeng said with a dejected look, "I got last place in the exam, what kind of progress is that?"

Feng Mingshu gently patted the top of her head and said, "Caifeng, you need to understand one thing: when you are still weak, the first thing you need to do is compare yourself with yourself, compare yourself with your past self. As long as there is progress, it is a good thing. And you have indeed made a lot of progress in the past two weeks, which is commendable."

Zhou Caifeng's dim eyes suddenly lit up: "Sister-in-law, can progress be measured like this?"

"Of course it counts. And I believe that in another month you won't be at the bottom of the list," Feng Mingshu said with a look of trust.

Zhou Caifeng was immediately spurred on, clenching her little fists and saying, "Sister-in-law, please give me more homework. I want to study until midnight tonight!"
