Chapter 27 The Political Commissar Arrives

"She said we weren't a good match and told me not to go see her anymore." Zhou Jinshan's face remained expressionless, his tone calm, and he glanced at Lu Xiangqian as if it were an unintentional gesture.

Lu Xiangqian didn't notice his look, but was surprised by his reaction: "She said all that, why aren't you excited? Why aren't you jumping up?"

"You really want to see me dance?" Zhou Jinshan asked in a cool tone.

Lu Xiangqian shook his head vigorously: "I don't want to!"

Zhou Jinshan didn't speak, just stared at him. Lu Xiangqian felt a chill run down his spine and tentatively asked, "How about I dance for you, so you can have some fun?"

"Who wants to dance? I'd love to have some fun too."

Just then, a hearty laugh came from the doorway.

Lu Xiangqian turned his head and rushed over excitedly: "Political Commissar, you are such a good person! I've missed you so much!"

The man who arrived was Lin, the political commissar of Bincheng Maritime College. He was of medium height, dressed in a military uniform and wearing glasses. He looked kind and approachable, but he was very capable of intimidating the proud and fierce soldiers in the college.

For example, Zhai, who was five minutes late returning to school last night, is still in his dormitory revising his 3,000-word self-criticism repeatedly. He can't just fill the word count, he can't be too superficial, he can't write illegible handwriting, and he can't write too few words. Even though Zhai Qingping considers himself to be somewhat talented in writing, he is now being tormented to the point of exhaustion.

Let's get back to the present.

When Political Commissar Lin saw Student Lu rushing towards him, he raised his hand to rudely refuse: "Stop! What kind of behavior is it for a man to pounce on me like this? If you want to pounce, pounce on your wife."

Lu stopped in his tracks and opened his mouth to explain, but Political Commissar Lin added insult to injury: "Oh, I forgot, you don't have a wife."

Student Lu: "..."

"Look at you two, you're all so useless. You went to the social gathering and didn't manage to win over a single woman. Anyone who didn't know better would think my troops are cowards!" Political Commissar Lin pointed at the two of them with disdain and began to lecture them.

Lu, the student, looked ashamed and dared not utter a sound.

Zhou, lying in his hospital bed, suddenly raised his hand: "Reporting to the political commissar, I've taken a liking to one—"

Political Commissar Lin's eyes lit up, just as he heard Zhou, the student, continue, "Not yet."

"Hey, stop panting! You've made me happy for nothing!" Political Commissar Lin scolded angrily. "You even tried, and you still failed. All my previous instruction was for nothing!"

"Political Commissar, I've remembered everything you taught me. Chasing a wife is like conquering a mountain. You aim at the target, deploy your strategy, outflank her, advance step by step, and finally storm the mountain, capture the flag, and seize the opportunity," Zhou replied loudly as he got off the hospital bed and straightened his back.

"Not bad, not bad, you remember very well. So, where are you at now? Your injury hasn't healed yet, sit down and talk." Political Commissar Lin nodded in satisfaction, pulled up a chair and sat down, not noticing the student Lu who seemed about to speak but hesitated.

Zhou Jinshan obeyed and sat back on the hospital bed. His legs were trembling slightly from the exertion, but his posture remained upright. "Reporting to the political commissar, because of the dragging down by friendly forces, we have now retreated from the mountainside to the foot of the mountain."

Political Commissar Lin glared: "Who are the friendly forces dragging us down?"

Zhou Jinshan didn't answer, only glancing indifferently at Lu Xiangqian. Political Commissar Lin then looked over, and Lu Xiangqian jumped up in surprise: "Commissar, I didn't, I didn't mean it, I just spoke a few truths..."

His words were incoherent, revealing all the information he was supposed to. Seeing the political commissar's dark face, he put on a mournful face and simply gave up: "Yes, I dragged them down, I was wrong, but I want to die knowing why. Old Zhou, did Comrade Feng complain to you in the letter? She clearly promised me she wouldn't tell."
