Chapter 29 Cursing

After breakfast that day, Feng Mingshu and Xiao Mingxue set up an easel in the yard.

The snow in the courtyard had not yet melted, and several flowering trees were covered in white snow. Xiao Mingxue was wrapped up in red snow like a Fuwa doll. With her little hands wearing fingerless gloves, she held a paintbrush and, under her sister's guidance, observed the scenery while clumsily sketching.

Mingyu kept circling around them until he saw his reflection in the drawing paper. Even though it was in the corner, he was still very happy and ran out to play without worry.

Soon, he came running back: "Sister, Old Lady Li is cursing in front of her house."

Xiao Mingxue was immediately distracted and looked up at her sister expectantly.

Feng Mingshu chuckled: "You two are so young, yet you love watching the excitement."

"I don't care about other people's drama, but I hate Old Mrs. Li, so I have to see what's going on at her house." Mingyu puffed out his little chest and said seriously, and Xiaomingxue nodded in agreement with her brother.

To be honest, Feng Mingshu was also a little interested in seeing it: "Okay, I'll take you there."

The twins cheered and grabbed her hands, running outside.

Before even getting close to the Li family's house, we could see from afar that Old Lady Li was shouting and cursing loudly under the crooked tree in front of her house.

"Which scoundrel knocked down my tree? Several pieces of bark have fallen off. Who did it? Step forward, or I'll find out and you won't get away with it!"

Feng Mingshu paused, remembering that she had ridden her bike into this street last night. She stopped the bike and kicked it away, seemingly hitting a tree... It turned out to be Old Lady Li's house.

That hit pretty accurately.

Feng Mingshu smiled and casually led his younger siblings into the neighborhood to continue listening to the commotion.

"And my water ladle! I threw it out in the middle of the night and hit a madman. I came out early this morning and couldn't find it. Who took it? Hand it over right now!"

A neighbor, unable to bear it any longer, remarked, "Grandma Li, you even threw a water ladle at someone. Maybe that madman couldn't stand it and took it."

Everyone else agreed, but Old Lady Li insisted that the madman was not that smart and that the water ladle he took must be in this alley. She also pressed him to tell her who had passed by her house that morning.

The neighbors finally understood: Old Lady Li was trying to extort money from people by using the lost water ladle, and this wasn't the first or second time she'd done something like this.

One of the neighbors laughed in exasperation: "Who cares about a broken water ladle? And nobody would want anything your family has used, it must be so dirty."

"Who are you calling dirty?" Old Mrs. Li exclaimed, jumping up and down.

The neighbor retorted without backing down, "I'm talking about you. Your whole family is heartless and always trying to take advantage of others. Even if a dog walks past your house, you'll have a few hairs stolen. Over the years, you should have enough to make a dog-skin hat, right?"

Just then, a passing dog went around to the other side of the street and barked at Grandma Li, which was quite fitting for the occasion.

The crowd burst into laughter, and some cheeky people even told Old Lady Li to bring out the dog-skin hat so the dog could identify its fur.

Grandma Li was so angry that she jumped up and down and started cursing, but everyone had already had enough of the commotion and stopped paying attention to her.

Feng Mingshu, satisfied, led her younger siblings back to their own yard to continue painting the unfinished snow scene, though a thought occasionally flashed through her mind—

The lost water ladle is probably really in the hands of that "madman" from last night, namely Pi Dapeng.

She had long suspected that the madman who was hit by the water ladle last night must have been Pi Dapeng. He had chased after the bicycle and taken it with him. Otherwise, if Old Lady Li had discovered and taken the bicycle last night, she would definitely be hiding at home secretly enjoying herself today. Why would she be out cursing in the street so early in the morning?
