Feng Mingshu quickly shook his head: "No need, I'll go back by myself. You should go and treat your wound as soon as possible."
Zhou Jinshan raised his left hand and smiled, "You bandaged it very well, the bleeding has stopped, no need to do anything else." He paused for a moment, then looked at her face with a serious expression, "Comrade Feng, even if we're not dating, we're still acquaintances, right? You came to see me, and it's getting dark. If I don't take you back, the commander will definitely punish me."
Feng Mingshu was somewhat surprised: "Will you really be punished?"
Zhou Jinshan nodded: "At least a three-thousand-word self-criticism."
The man spoke with conviction, and Feng Mingshu couldn't help but believe him. But then she remembered something else: "Military academy has strict discipline. Can you just ask for leave whenever you want?"
Zhou Jinshan raised an eyebrow slightly: "I'm still a patient and can't participate in training, so it's easier for me to come and go than for others."
Feng Mingshu was still somewhat hesitant; she didn't want to go back and forth, lest it cause more complications.
"Wait a moment, I'll go get the leave slip." Before Zhou Jinshan finished speaking, he had already left.
He walked too fast for Feng Mingshu to stop him.
Feng Mingshu stood outside the reception room waiting. Every now and then, passing trainees would glance at her curiously, and rows of soldiers would turn their heads to look at her, only to be reprimanded by their instructors.
She became increasingly uncomfortable, and seeing that five minutes had passed and the sky was getting darker, she decided to leave.
But just as the thought crossed her mind, a gust of wind blew from behind, and Zhou Jinshan appeared beside her, handing her a note: "Here, a leave slip."
The man's slightly panting voice revealed a hint of pleasure in Feng Mingshu's ears.
She took the note somewhat blankly. The first two lines were written in loose handwriting, like a beginner, but the reason for the leave was clearly written as "escorting a female comrade home safely." Below that was a large "Approved" character, written in a messy and unrestrained handwriting, obviously someone else's handwriting.
She was silent for a moment, then handed it back: "Thank you for your help."
"No trouble at all." A smile flashed in Zhou Jinshan's eyes as he took the note, folded it, and put it in his pocket.
After leaving the military academy, the two walked to the bus stop. Zhou Jinshan deliberately stood in the wind to shield her from the cold wind as much as possible.
Feng Mingshu adjusted her scarf, looked up at him, and said, "You don't need to do that."
Zhou Jinshan lowered his eyes and said to her, "This has nothing to do with our relationship. You are a woman, and I was assigned to take you out on a mission. It is only right that I take care of you."
Feng Mingshu suddenly felt a pang of regret: "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have come to see you so late today."
Perhaps, it would be right for her to write an apology letter and send it over.
Zhou Jinshan nodded: "It's not safe at night, I'll come to you next time."
Hearing the man's words, Feng Mingshu's heart skipped a beat. She looked up, but could not see his expression in the dim light. However, she could hear his laughing voice.
"I was just kidding, don't be nervous."
She was overthinking it. After what she did before, even the most passionate man would have lost interest.
That's fine too.
The bus arrived, and the two boarded. There were plenty of empty seats, so they sat in a row without exchanging a word.
Twenty minutes later, the two took another bus. Feng Mingshu thought they would remain silent, but Zhou Jinshan suddenly started talking about some things that happened at the military academy.
There is training, competition, and study, but none of it involves classified information.
Zhou Jinshan is not a very good storyteller; he tells his stories in a straightforward and overly concise manner. However, the stark contrast in their lives still captivated Feng Mingshu, who listened intently.
Thinking that her younger brother Mingyu admires soldiers, she thought that when he grows up in ten years or so, the college entrance examination will be reinstated, and Mingyu might be able to take the military academy entrance examination and realize his dream.
With this in mind, Feng Mingshu couldn't help but ask some details, which Zhou Jinshan answered one by one. However, when the topic turned to cultural courses, a troubled look appeared on his handsome face, and he hesitated to speak.
