The sound of Xiwen crying startled Zhong Wan and Chu Qinghuai, especially since he was calling out "Qingcai," which easily made people wonder if Caicai had encountered some danger.

But the next moment, Mu Mu came out holding Xiao He's hand, both of their similar faces showing panic.

Zhong Wan had a premonition that something bad was about to happen, and Xining, who was beside her, had already started communicating with Xiwen in English to find out what was going on.

She pursed her lips and quickly went into Cai Cai's room. Chu Qinghuai, who was serving rice in the kitchen, heard the noise and immediately followed.

"What's wrong?" he asked the two sisters.

“Cai Cai…” Mu Mu hesitated to speak because Xi Wen and his mother were present.

When the group stood at the door and saw the bed covered in small green vegetables, they all looked surprised. Xiwen expressed her fear and had her mother hold her in her arms, her voice broken, "It just happened, Cai Cai..."

"Where is Cai Cai?" Chu Qinghuai didn't see Cai Cai, and his voice suddenly became a little loud.

Zhong Wan was extremely anxious: "Cai Cai, baby, it's Mommy! Where are you hiding? We're about to eat!"

A faint sound could be heard coming through the gap in the wardrobe.

"Mother."

Zhong Wan reacted quickly and opened the wardrobe door, but not completely. She saw with her own eyes Xiao Caicai hiding in a pile of clothes, his face covered in tears, his arms wrapped around his knees, looking exactly as pitiful as when she first found him.

"Baby, are you playing hide-and-seek with Mommy? I almost couldn't find you."

The mother suppressed her tears, squatted down and gently picked up her daughter Cai Cai, ignoring the pile of vegetables in the closet, and quickly covered them with her clothes. "Mu Mu, can you help Mommy get Cai Cai's little blanket from the bed?"

Okay~

Mumu deftly helped her mother with the task, and Zhong Wan covered Cai Cai's body under everyone's gaze. After two seconds, she clearly sensed two round things under the blanket. She suppressed the strangeness in her eyes, hugged the child tightly, and pressed her face against his hair.

Even if Chu Qinghuai was slow to realize what was going on, there were still guests present. For the sake of their future relationship, they had no choice but to lie and cover it up. Both little boys were sobbing. Xiwen was a bit better. He had calmed down after being held by his mother and spoke clearly: "I saw green vegetables suddenly sprouting from Caicai's body. It was so scary."

The child's unintentional words made Cai Cai tremble and shrink her head slightly; even Zhong Wan's gentle pats were ineffective.

Xining dismissed it as Xiwen's nonsense, saying, "You must have misread it. How could a body lose vegetables?"

She came up with a good reason herself: "Maybe it's a magic trick that Cai Cai performed for you."

She wiped away her son's tears, knowing that his words would hurt the child's feelings, so she made him apologize to Cai Cai.

Zhong Wan smiled and said, "No need to apologize. Xiwen didn't do anything wrong. The green vegetables are a gift from Caicai. Pick one to take home later."

She forced a smile.

Chu Qinghuai covered for Xining, mainly to make Xining believe: "That's right, Cai Cai hid the bok choy she bought in her room to give to her good friend."

Xining, being simple-minded, believed these words without a doubt and decisively thought that her son had misread them. She shook the Xiwen in her hand and said, "Cai Cai gave you a gift, and you're still crying. Is that polite?"

The child blinked, bewildered by the adult's words. Could it be that he really saw it wrong?

"Cai Cai, I'm sorry, I won't cry anymore, and you shouldn't cry either."

Zhong Wan and Chu Qinghuai both breathed a sigh of relief, but Cai Cai still refused to raise her head.

The couple immediately exchanged a glance. Zhong Wan gave him a look, and Chu Qinghuai, wearing an apron, said, "Dinner is ready. Children, come and wash your hands. I've made lots of delicious food."

Everyone left the room, and Zhong Wan carried Cai Cai to the master bedroom to wash her hands and face.

As soon as she closed the door, she put the child on the bed. As soon as she took the blanket away, three or four fresh but bitter-smelling green vegetables rolled onto the floor. Cai Cai covered her little face and couldn't stop sobbing.

"Baby, is anything bothering you?"

He didn't answer; he was extremely heartbroken and didn't even want to act cute anymore.

"Baby, it's Mommy. If you're sad, you should tell Mommy. Mommy loves you the most, right?"

Zhong Wan's voice was incredibly gentle, like a crushed pearl, delicate and soft. She sat by the bed, gently patting Cai Cai's little belly as if she were handling a precious treasure.

“Sivan…Sivan won’t like me anymore, he’s afraid of me.”

With her mother's guidance, Cai Cai spoke her heart, becoming more and more upset as she spoke, tears streaming down her face onto the blanket.

Zhong Wan felt very sorry for him when she heard this, and hugged him in her arms. "How could that be? You are his good friend, and he likes you very much."

"But he saw me conjure up little green vegetables. Mom, Cai Cai doesn't know why I conjured them up. Cai Cai didn't do it on purpose."

Four children were playing "Red Light, Green Light" on the bed when Cai Cai, who was leaning against the headboard, suddenly felt a tightness in her chest and became listless. She was about to go out to find her parents when, uncontrollably, she started to drop small green vegetables. Just then, Xi Wen turned around and saw the scene, which terrified him.

Cai Cai knew very well that he couldn't let anyone other than his parents, sisters, and cousins see his true form, so he immediately hid in the closet, not wanting to be seen as a monster. But he still scared his best friend.

The little boy must have felt scared hiding in the dark closet, especially when he heard Xiwen crying; a wave of panic and guilt washed over him instantly.

He made a mistake.

"Mommy knows, our baby definitely didn't do it on purpose. Baby didn't do anything wrong, and neither did Xiwen. We're all good friends. Hmm—Mommy and Daddy have already explained to Xiwen that the little green vegetable was actually a gift from you. See, he's not scared anymore. We all love you so much."

Zhong Wan kissed his cheek and comforted him for a long time before Cai Cai was less sad.

"Mom, are you telling the truth?"

"Yes, Mom promises you, in Xiwen's heart you are still his good friend."

Zhong Wan let Cai Cai kiss her cheek, then carried her out to eat.

"Daddy made braised pork for lunch, and your favorite ribbonfish too. How about Mommy feeds you?"

"I want to eat it myself!"

Zhong Wan smiled and said, "Our Cai Cai is really great."

When the two came out, everyone at the table was waiting for them. Zhong Wan said, "Let's eat!"

Xiwen sat next to her mother, secretly glancing at Caicai with her little eyes, and pouted, "Caicai, how about we play 'Red Light, Green Light' together again this afternoon?"

Without hesitation, Cai Cai nodded emphatically: "Yes!"

Children's friendships are so simple; even if they're arguing one second, they're best friends the next.

Zhong Wan envied their innocent and childlike fun.

-

Cai Cai continued playing games with the children in the afternoon and seemed very happy. Zhong Wan breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that the matter was over. In the evening, Xi Wen's father came over, and the two families had dinner together, chatted, and so on. Around seven or eight o'clock, they saw the guests off.

Out of consideration for Chu Qinghuai's cooking all day, Zhong Wan took the initiative to wash the dishes and tidy the table. After putting on gloves, she said to him, "Go take a shower, you smell of cooking oil."

Chu Qinghuai sniffed his sleeve and said, "Indeed, I'll go first."

He then went to the balcony to get his clothes.

The children sat on the living room carpet playing with their toys, as usual, in a peaceful atmosphere.

Zhong Wan hummed a song as she washed the dishes. Washing dishes was quite therapeutic sometimes. Her movements were slow and leisurely, and the foam floating in the sink looked like big cotton candy. Wanting to show the children, she turned her head and said, "Babies, come and see Mommy washing the dishes!"

The three children were obedient. They dropped their toys, patted their little bottoms, and came over. They stood on tiptoe to look at the large bubbles in the pool. Xiao He even reached out to poke them, but Zhong Wan stopped her. "This is dirty. I'll clean the bubbles for you to play with after I wash the dishes."

"good!"

Mumu and Xiaohe readily agreed, but Caicai remained silent by the side, unlike his sisters who were equally excited.

"Caicai, did you see that? Want to play?"

He nodded, but his expression was strained. Zhong Wan asked again, "What's wrong with the baby?"

Before Zhong Wan and her two daughters could react, Cai Cai suddenly lowered her head and vomited, making a painful sound as she vomited all over the floor.

They frantically surrounded him; this had never happened before—why did he suddenly vomit?

Zhong Wan didn't have time to wash the dishes. She took off her gloves, quickly rinsed her hands under the tap, and carried the child to the bathroom.

"Mumu and Xiaohe, don't touch what Caicai vomited. Can you play by yourself for a while?"

The two little girls naturally wouldn't cause trouble for the adults. They went back to the living room to pick up their toys and play, but their heads kept looking towards the door to the master bedroom.

"Sister, is Little Green Vegetable sick?"

Xiaohe was very worried about him.

"Maybe." Cai Cai really isn't feeling well today.

"Does that mean he has to take very bitter medicine?"

Mumu didn't know, but her father had said that good medicine tastes bitter but is good for the disease, and she only hoped that Caicai would get better soon.

...

"Chu Qinghuai, are you done washing up?"

"I'm done washing up, I'm getting dressed."

"Hurry up."

Zhong Wan's tone was slightly urgent. Soon, Chu Qinghuai came out with his hair still wet. He saw Zhong Wan taking off Cai Cai's clothes and thought she was going to give him a bath.

“The baby just threw up,” Zhong Wan told him, frowning.

"Huh? Why did he throw up? He didn't eat much tonight."

Chu Qinghuai asked Cai Cai if she still felt nauseous. She shook her head, but her lips were a little pale.

Zhong Wan wrapped him in a large bath towel, not planning to give him a bath, just to wipe him down. If the child was still uncomfortable at night, then they would have to go to the hospital.

"I'll get some water, you can wipe him down, he'll sleep with us tonight."

Since Zhong Wan hadn't showered yet and couldn't go to bed, and was also afraid of getting Cai Cai dirty, she simply asked Chu Qinghuai to take care of her.

There were still quite a few things to do in the evening. Zhong Wan asked Chu Qinghuai to take care of Cai Cai alone, while she washed the remaining dishes and cleaned the floor. Afterwards, she took Mu Mu and Xiao He to bathe and coaxed the two little girls to sleep. When she returned to the master bedroom, she found that Cai Cai was fussy.

Chu Qinghuai stood by the bed, holding him and walking back and forth, supporting the baby's bottom with one hand and gently patting his back with the other, "Sleep, sleep."

Cai Cai seemed uncomfortable, squirming and whimpering with her eyes closed. She looked very sleepy but just couldn't fall asleep. Her temperature was normal, even though we took it. We don't know what's wrong with her.

Zhong Wan tried hard to recall the food Cai Cai had eaten all day. It couldn't be that she had an upset stomach. She looked up at Chu Qinghuai and said, "Could it be related to her reverting to her original form?"

Chu Qinghuai pondered this and agreed.
