After two months of training, Zhao Aiguo started his job. On his first day, the Zhao family prepared a big feast. The whole family was in high spirits and ready to celebrate. These days, being a driver is a good job; you wouldn't trade it for a county magistrate position!
Just as they were enjoying their meal, there was a knock on the door. Wei Shuqing immediately said, "I'll go open the door!"
She walked out, and when she opened the door, she was stunned to see who it was. It had been over a decade since she'd last seen her! Qi's mother had aged drastically, becoming withered and emaciated. The only thing unchanged was her straight back and slightly raised head. Wei Shuqing asked in surprise, "Why are you here!"
Looking at the plump and fair-skinned Wei Shuqing, dressed in a cadre's uniform, Qi's mother understood why Qi Zhifang was so envious. With a smile, she said in her usual slow and deliberate manner, "I heard my grandson has made something of himself, so I, as his grandmother, have come to see him!"
Wei Shuqing was almost furious at these words, but Qi's mother acted as if there had never been any distance between them and that she was visiting her grandson. She tried to go inside, but Wei Shuqing stopped her and said coldly, "You're shameless! Go back to where you came from!" and pushed her out.
Despite being refused entry, Qi's mother remained unperturbed, continuing to smile and say, "I see my own grandson and don't see anything wrong with it. Little Wei, what are you afraid of if you're not guilty?" She then shouted towards the door, "Patriotism! Patriotism!"
Wei Shuqing shrieked, "Shut up, get out of here!"
When Zhao Aiguo and Zhao Dahu came out, they saw Qi's mother standing stubbornly outside the door, looking like she had suffered a lot of grievances but was still unyielding. Wei Shuqing looked like she was going crazy, baring her teeth and brandishing her claws.
"How can you be so shameless! Get out..."
"Mom, what's wrong?" Zhao Aiguo quickly came out, and the father and son supported Wei Shuqing on either side.
Qi's mother looked at the person opposite her with a stubborn and restrained expression. Zhao Aiguo looked up and saw Qi's mother, and said, "Oh! It's you, old lady!"
Looking at the energetic and radiant Zhao Aiguo, Qi's mother couldn't help but think of her own son, who had been just like him back then. She nodded in satisfaction; this was the Qi family. "Yes, it's me! I heard you started working, so I came to see you today."
Wei Shuqing's face turned red with anger. "Zhao Aiguo, how do you know this person? Who gave you permission to know her?"
Zhao Dahu patted Wei Shuqing on the back and said, "Shuqing, calm down, it's okay. Aiguo, go back to your room and find your grandparents..."
"His grandmother is right here, so who should we go to?" Mother Qi said slowly.
Zhao Dahu and Wei Shuqing's expressions changed drastically, and they both looked at Zhao Aiguo nervously.
Zhao Aiguo noticed something was off about the three men's expressions and asked, "What's wrong? Dad, Mom, you don't look well! Are you hiding something from me?"
Mr. and Mrs. Zhao came out of the house. Mr. Zhao looked very unhappy and said coldly, "Come in and talk!"
Wei Shuqing wanted to say something, but Zhao Dahu squeezed her shoulder hard and made her shake her head.
Zhao Dahu was also very anxious, but he knew that the boil would swell up sooner or later, so he decided to leave it to fate.
Once everyone was inside, Qi's mother looked at the ten dishes on the table and couldn't help but scoff. But she still smiled and said, "Brother, sister, I've come today to thank you for raising my grandson and even helping him find a job!..."
Upon hearing this, Zhao's mother felt dizzy and her vision went black. Zhao's father and Zhao Aiguo immediately supported her. Zhao Aiguo said, "Grandma, are you alright? Don't scare me."
After being pinched and shaken, Zhao's mother slowly woke up, tears streaming down her face. She hugged Zhao Aiguo tightly and cried, "You are my grandson, you belong to our family!"
Zhao Aiguo patted the old lady on the back and said, "Grandma, don't cry. If I'm not from our family, then whose family is I?"
Then, turning to look at Qi's mother with displeasure, he said, "Grandma, I won't hold it against you because of your age, but don't push your luck! Otherwise, I'm not someone to be trifled with."
Qi's mother remained calm and composed, saying, "Grandma knows about your love for your country, you..."
"Don't call me that so affectionately. I only have one grandmother. You're not going to tell me Qi Zhijun is my father too, are you?" Everyone was stunned when Zhao Aiguo said this.
After a while, Qi's mother said, "Aiguo, he really is your father..." and then went on and on about what happened back then. Let's skip the 20,000 words here! During this time, she ignored Wei Shuqing's curses.
Zhao Aiguo just stared at Old Madam Qi. When she stopped, the boy nodded thoughtfully. "Hmm, I understand. When you approached me back then, I could tell you weren't a good person. Now it seems I was wrong. You must live in Huaguo Mountain, right? You were born a scoundrel! You're so rotten to the core!"
After saying that, he laughed out loud. "Grandma, if you admit you're making a fool of yourself, I'll still consider you a human being. But if you're serious, your whole family is worse than animals! Seriously, I'm not insulting you. When I was little, I needed someone to take care of me, to eat and drink, and to spend money, but you were nowhere to be seen."
Including those two years when they ambushed me at the school gate and wouldn't even give me a drink of water. Now they dare to come to my door, what? Did you find out I can make money? Are you eyeing my salary? Let me tell you, you're dreaming!
Pointing at the door, he said, "Hurry up and leave, or I'll take you to the Public Security Bureau and we'll find out what my real name is! Then I'll file a complaint against you and find you two old men who will fight over who will be Qi Zhijun's father."
Tears streamed down Qi's mother's face. "Patriot! How could you say that to your own grandmother? I didn't come here for money. I have a small house that I'll leave to you..."
"Then just give it to me when you die, right? What's wrong? What serious illness do you have that you're going to die tomorrow?" Zhao Aiguo wasn't arguing; he genuinely thought it was possible.
Mother Qi was so angry she almost fainted. "You...you..."
"Hey! I know, you have a little house for me. I'll just collect it when I die. You'd better get out of here! My grandparents, parents, and I don't like you. You're such a grown man, you have no sense of propriety at all. No wonder your son and daughter don't like you!"
