Shang Ning took a nap in the afternoon, but couldn't sleep at night. Even after Jingyan finished grading the homework, she went to rest.
After Lian Jingyan fell asleep, Shang Ning took a blanket, opened the door, and went out. Instead of taking the elevator, she went to the stairwell. The stairwell was dimly lit, and even though the motion-activated lights weren't on, Shang Ning could still see her back.
Shang Ning draped a blanket over her shoulders before sitting down next to Chen Yiyang. “When I was little, after my mother scolded me, I would do the same thing. I wouldn’t dare go far, but I also wouldn’t want to go home. I would just think that when my mother came to find me, I would forgive her and go home.”
Chen Yiyang glanced at Shang Ning.
“But my mother never came out. Every time, my father would come out first and then take me home. Later I found out that my mother thought that as long as I went back, she would forgive me.” Shang Ning said, looking at Chen Yiyang. “To put it bluntly, even if you hate me, you can’t deny that we are indeed from the same world.”
"Who's from the same world as you?" Chen Yiyang snorted and pulled the blanket tighter around himself.
“I didn’t quite understand before why Jin Yining, a grown man, would always complain about you to Mom for no reason. But then I realized why. I’m so envious that you have such a good younger brother like Jin Yining.”
"Here you go."
"No, take me, it's illegal." Shang Ning stretched out his legs, pressed his hands down on the steps, and looked up at the motion-activated light. "Go teach. The Optics Department of B University is a good choice. You have the degree and the ability. You are not suited to this society, so go teach. The School of Optics is still missing a professor."
After Shang Ning finished speaking, he looked at Chen Yiyang.
Chen Yiyang could sense that Shang Ning spoke with a hint of self-deprecation when he mentioned his academic qualifications.
"You deserve a self-taught university degree too."
"It's no longer needed, it's lost its flavor." Shang Ning lay on the steps, her hands pressed under her neck, staring at the light.
Chen Yiyang wanted to say it was dirty, but then she lay down with her. So what if it was dirty? They had been through much dirtier things.
"Jin Yining really likes you."
"I know," Shang Ning said with a smile, turning to look at Chen Yiyang. "Why do you hate me so much?"
Do you need a reason to dislike someone?
Shang Ning: "..."
Shang Ning gave a thumbs up. "Good reason, this reason is very strong."
"Just assume you're jealous of me," Shang Ning said, crossing her legs and swinging them back and forth. "Chen Yiyang, to be honest, I'm very jealous of you. I'm jealous that you can still do what you want to do."
You can too.
Shang Ning shook her head. It was no longer possible, it had been a long time since then. There was no turning back in life. From the moment she chose a new path, she could never go back.
"Once you've made a choice, don't look back, or you'll only regret it more." Shang Ning said softly, "I wonder when Teacher Jin will be back, and whether he'll be able to make it in time for the baby's birth. Sigh, my honest advice is, never marry an actor. A university professor would be a good choice, don't you think?"
"Mom is waiting to forgive me. I'm leaving now."
"Hey, Chen Yiyang, let's chat for three more minutes." Shang Ning called out as she turned around. Chen Yiyang had already gone inside and clearly didn't want to talk about these boring topics.
Shang Ning chuckled softly, continuing to lie on the ground and look at the lamp. If Chen Yiyang could be with He Zhiyan, it wouldn't be bad.
